Soil was the original name for SOAD, they changed it to SOAD later.

The article on wiki also states that they aren't to be confused with this Soil.

Honestly, I'd say that Metal is a parentgenre of a lot. Since it's a lot of different kind; nu-metal, heavy metal, death metal, black metal etc. Even though people refer Metal and Heavy Metal as the one and the same, that would indeed be wrong considering how metal is so many different genres in a whole.

Although I have to give you props for at least thinking about it instead of just taking someone's word for it, I also have to correct you.

You seem to confuse genres with sub-genres. Heavy Metal is what a lot of people call Metal (like I said, it's one and the same), while Death Metal, Nu Metal, Black Metal, Power Metal etc. etc. are sub-genres.

Funny thing though; Heavy Metal itself is a sub-genre to Rock ;-)

You might be right that in today's limbo Metal has been alienized to something it didn't mean originally; it used to be a short(er) word for Heavy Metal.
