  • DBZ2313 was with GWA for a while after the purchase by QR of WA's rail assets. It was swapped with DA1907, which has a chopped nose and is still running ore trains on the SA 3'6 Port Lincon line.

  • We have these in South Australia as well. Only a few made for the narrow gauge(Thats what i've heard).

  • @Gavsta40 You'll find that they're likely to be imported from WA. When ARG bought Westrail, much of their rolling stock got mixed up with interstate units. In WA, it's known as a DB class.

    There was the story of Westrail's design of cylindrical grain hoppers; ARG wanted to use them elsewhere because they can carry 72 tonnes apiece. They soon discovered that SA gantries were too small for them.

  • To my knowledge, they are unique to Western Australia. All run on a narrow 3'6 gauge, and not even Dash 9s look like them. If anything, a Dash 9 is more areodynamic than one of these. With these engines under load, you can certainly hear them coming

  • Dash9 diesel locomotive? Loco look like a BNSF Dash9 diesel locomotive!!!!

  • Dash 9s are 4-cycle GE engines but these are definately 2 cycle EMDs, or that's what they sound like to me anyway.

    But the don't sound like 16/645s, (V16) so are they V12s?

    Also, I'm pretty sure down there they're 3'6" guage not standard guage.

  • They are West Australian DB class loco's. They are built by Clyde locomotive works. They have a EMD 16-645E roots blown engine. Awsome!!!!!1
