Hey dude I need to replace the pots in my 650xl can you give me any advice please . great vid by the way thanks. it has the same circuit as your model 4
I had the Model 6 myself. Purple instead of red with neck-thru construction. I hated it. The tuning was horrible. I think it was just a Japanese ripoff of the Made in USA Jackson Soloist, but the Model 6 was a lot less expensive..............I'll take the Jackson USA :(
I got one exactly the same... it's all beat up but I got it for 50$ USD, only instead of all those 3 switches, it has only a 5 way switch... Any help? It has Jackson Pickups on it EMG type. It doesn't work at all, all the cables are crap... but any help on what model it could be?
i was playing a 1972 charvel until recently. i had to give it back to my father. so i picked up an ibanez and immediately regretted this decision . i cant wait to get my charvel back
Damn dude you can play really good keep it up bro i have 2 Charvel Guitars i have a Charvel Crackle and im not sure about the other one it has a pick gaurd and 1 bridge humbucker and 2 single coils not she the model
Thanks for the video, i was trying to get some info on my guitar (Which I bought new) mine must be a model 4 as well, maybe an earlier model than yours. mine has a kahler tremelo and my pickups don't have jackson printed on the covers. the finger board has pearl dot inlays. everything else is identical. Starting to have some trouble with the pots clicking in and out. If you know a good place for me to find new pots plz let me know. Have always loved the guitar......Thanks
LOL,you look like David Brent from The Office UK. I had the same guitar when i was crazy 80s Van Halen fan,but mine was black with a stock Jackson pickups.Amazing clean tones and 80s rock/metal tones. I miss that guitar man!
About 750 San Dimas Charvels were built without serial numbers from '79 until 11/9/81. For the San Dimas Charvels, #1001 began the numbered series in late 81'. 1982 began with #1096, '83 with #1725, '84 with #2939, '85 with #4262, and '86 with #5304. Warning: Someone sold the leftover, excess numbered neckplates on the black market, so if you find a guitar with a San Dimas neckplate numbered 5492 or higher, it was not made by Charvel/Jackson!
finally someone who plays some cleans on a charvel. thing sounds great. most people just load on so much distortion that it doesnt even matter what guitar they're playing, they would all sound the same.
Thanks for the video. I have the same guitar. Just picked it up at a pawn shop for about 180$ CAD. Stole it at that price. Its in a very decent shape for an 80's axe, only it's been slightly butchered. Although he did a good soldering job, he swapped out the original passive for an EMG 85, which i hate. Anyways mines prolly slightly earlier, it features chrome hardware and a chrome schaller trem. What kind of pick up is in there originally? J90c. IF i cant find one, il Dimarzio it i guess
Beautiful guitar! I wish I could find one of the 80's Charvel's models. One of the neckthrough model 6 I believe. I have a 1986 BC Rich Assassin ST-III I bought new in 1987 and it too is hum sing sing pup configuration as well. With original Floyd. Mine needs a new tone pot and 5 way selector. Kind of taken a beating over the years lol. Great review though!
btw, unless u put a floyd rose tremolo in it urself, it came with a Kahler X tremolo. Charvel model 4's were a few of the last of the guitars to really be build exclusively with kahlers
@nejikid - Actually thats not true. I worked for IMC the owner of Jackson/Charvel and I did the QC and repair work on these guitars. They were made by Chushin Japan and shipped to us in Ft Worth, TX. The first run did have the Kahler but Floyd Rose sued Kahler for copy right infringement and Kahler went out of business. The guitar was redesigned and we immediately started recieving the Floyd version of all the Models in early 1987. Years later Kahler resurfaced as a Floyd licensed product.
@TejasShane o... i have a kahler X on my charvel 4. it works amazingly! im not sure which i prefer better, kahler X or original floyd... what do u prefer?
@nejikid - The Kahler trem's were good. They have less sustain than the Floyd's. The Floyd's that came on the Charvel's could be kinda crappy, some would be ok while others seemed to wear out faster. We used to say that they melted down old Datsun's to get the metal. I prefer the Schaller Floyd Rose (German), harder metal and better quality. I have a new Axcess Gibson Les Paul with a genuine Floyd Rose and it is a very nice bridge. I think they are made by Schaller??
@TejasShane Actually, the Gibson LP Axcess uses a Made in Korea licensed Flyod Rose - the same as on the newer USA Standard Charvels, B.C. Riches, Schecters, etc.
The German made Schaller is used by Carvin and the likes.
@TejasShane Hi, Well, I have a model 4 exactly the same the red that is in the video. I bought a 2010 Charvel So cal last year from ebay and I assumed that the So Cal was better that the model 4. The model 4 is better by far. I upgrade the floyd on the so cal for a OFR made in Germany, but I have to say that the JT6 stays in tune even with hard dive bombs or pulls ups. You are right when you say that some parts of the JT6 are crappy, but for some reason it stays in tune better than the OFR.
@TejasShane i have a charvel that looks just like this but its a solid body , pickups are 1 emg in bridge and the 2 jackson single coils i cant figure out a date on it ,or if its worth a darn
i Have a 1985 charvel guitar, 3 pick ups jackson , black neck made in U.S.A.(T.M.) charvel. it has a black bridge> kahler (T.M.) made in U.S.A,with tremolo it was pink before but im not sure if that was the original color, is made in CA. San Dimas 4 serial number Gold 5046 . if someone is interested in a 1985 charvel guitar send me a message you can ask for the condition of the guitar, and how much can i sell it to you. its really old and i have tested before Your gonna love it.
what kind of whammy bar does it use? a screw on? or push in? i have the same jackson floyd system. and i got the guitar for free and the guy who gave it to me lost the whammy bar...and i dont know what kind im supposed to get cus..it doesnt look liek a screw on. theres no threads.
Shane, just picked up a model 3a i think a 1987. How dose it compare to this model 4 in your opinion. only paid two hundred with chainsaw case. craigslist rules! thanks for any info on it.
BTW dude, you are a really good guitar player. I watched all 5 of your vids and really enjoyed them. You should make more. I'd like to hear you play whole songs.
You played part of a song about halfway through the vid. Man that song brings back memories. Trouble is, I don' t remember the name of it and who played it.

Just a tip from a lead shredder guy.
Hold the pick in the 8 o'clock position instead of the 6 and you'll find you'll be breezy and sleezy!
