My school closes when they hear there might be a chance if snow. Only cuz there was a time there wan an accident and made ten people go to the hospital. My school closes if there is a dusting of snow. And we have thirty snow days to use before the end of the year before they take it off if our breaks so I don't have to worry about the chance of that happening.

School buses in other than rual areas where they are necessary is a HUGE waste of taxpayer's money. It costs a fortune which of course is passed on usually as part of real estate taxes. Let the little darlings WALK to school. I did, in the 60's and almost a mile each way and then I was a patrol boy that had to stand "protecting" litter kids in sub zero weather about 30 minutes before and after school. Geez, today's kids are weak, fat and lazy.

@willieofroanoke Of course you didn't ride the bus, you didn't even live a mile from school. Most kids that ride buses live several miles from the school. I had a 7 mile ride to school myself. Normally I could've walked that distance, but its different when carrying a backpack weighing as much as i did. I agree that kids these days are becoming lazy little video game addicts, but all an exhausting walk to school is going to do is make them hate school and pay even less attention in class.

And we didn't have school buses but every other day on the bust from home it got stuck on a specific slope. Different driver every time.

We always offered to give it a push as long as he stopped at the top of the hill and let us back on. So many thankful drivers! Having 20 - 30 kids pushing the bus does wonders!

@12doogy We weren't exactly behind the bus, we stood on the corners and he was slipping and sliding all over the place. We where ready for any situation where we would have to get out of the way. It's not like it happens in a split second.

Even in the worst weather we managed to get the bus up the hill. Traction from 30+ pairs of little feet is quite alot.

when i was in grade school, we lived on a flat spot halfway up a big hill. the school bus had to go up the hill, pick me up, & go up the second half, which was steeper than the first part. it normally wasn't a problem, but there was a year when the ice was really bad and the bus didn't make it. the driver had to back up to the bottom of the hill and try again. i also remember being on a bus and the driver was doing donuts in an icy parking lot.
