Yo Mr. Chan, Im inspired by your work and hope to create different original characters and creatures using your tactics. I just wanted to know what exact program or art studio you use for your creations.
who is this guy?? is he a game designer or something??? cause his work is fucking epic... i could already imagine his characters to be in a game already... seriously.. this character designs are fucking SICK! awesome!
@troti14 The cursor/brush will follow the movements of the pen when you have it about 3/4 of an inche over the tablet. when the tip of pen touches the tablet it makes a mark.
@solidysnake1 That's because it's a trailer for a much longer video. I don't have this particular one, but I bought another from TAD Media in which he was showing exactly what to do (the oddly-titled "Quick Sketch", which was actually one speed painting and one full illustration, and it taught me a huge amount). This set seems to be specifically for concept artists, but I expect he covers a lot of painting basics in the course of it.
I met you today the first time... can you tell me what program you use and if you have a vid of "how to draw creases in capes" i don´t know how to draw such creases... at my pics it always look like... drawn...
Do you do anything with Magic the Gathering? If you do i'd like to know which cards you have designed and if not i'm pretty sure if you submit your art they'd for surely let you publish your art.
I wish he'd explain HOW hes doing what hes doing as hes doing it. Does anyone know if he explaions his actions in the full DVD?, please get back to me
@jasperrumbelow digital tablets are easy to master, and if you are skilled drawing in traditional media it will be even more easy to learn, just try to use the tablet for1 week, dont use your mouse until you get confortable drawing and navigating with the tablet and watching the monitor (sorry for my bad english)
Hello Jason Chan, are you using "BAMBOO (Pen & Touch)" to draw that AWESOME Villain character on your Photoshop? :D Its SUPER AWESOME dude! Like seriously i'm speechless right now Lol
@runza123 Pros tend to use Intuos or Cintiq, but an A4 (aka Medium) Bamboo is a great tablet. All you're really losing is some of the levels of pressure sensitivity, but you can get around that by using sensible opacity settings. It still responds well on pressure, don't worry! Anyone who can make great work on an Intuos could also do the same with a Bamboo, but the Intuos saves a bit of time (in that it'll get the mark you want a little more easily) and feels a little better.
i like what you do but what the fuck this videos on how you make your art and you skip it all and talk about the gay ass head dress and what the characters do... i want to see you make the art
@dogman123andrew you completely ignored the point , he is showing the art. You need to learn that art has a meaning to every line , every color , every shade , and everything. He makes perfect videos that show exactly why he does things the way that he does.
Wow, why don't you 2 "Turtles12 and MrSiiKez" just fuck and get it over with? :)
BTW, that looks like Sauron. You're a good artist, but that is inspired by Sauron so you should atleast acknowledge the fact and give LOTR some props.
@turtles12 I sound mad? lol, I'm the one laughing, you'e the one throwing names at the artist and me ;) Lmao. I'll just tell you instead that no they aren't the same at all. Type in "Sauron figurine" and you'll see this one is WAY better.
@turtles12 Lolol I love when I do this to people, make them mad and watch them say "NO U MAD!!" lol! I'm sorry bro I know it hurts to try to use your feelings against other people, but hey, just admit you were wrong and I'll stop verbally destroying you. But then again you are 12 years old. "turtles12" 12. Hahahaha.
Thanks for a 1+ to my victory counter, take a look on my page for my arguement W/L count :)
@MrSiiKez wow I can tell you're really enraged over this. nothing gives me a greater chuckle than making kids who haven't mastered their emotions yet mad. It's such a great contrast to see me reply so calmly and collected while they fumble about. looks like I won this one soundly :)
@MrSiiKez no you just seem really mad over being proved wrong so I felt bad. I didn't mean to hurt your feelings or publicly dominate you so hard in an argument but I guess I can't help it ;)
@turtles12 Rofl you copy everything I said in a previous post again hahahaha! But for the sake of total obliteration, Saurons helmet is a crown of spikes pointing upward, and he wears and armoured suit with a cape. This character has a more well crafted helmet, with an animalistic feel. And he wears a tattered robe with leather or metal shoulders or chest plates. However in your defence, 12 year olds may get confused as the brain is less developed and recognition skills are severly low. Lmao.
Ive noticed that as he draws and paints, he quickly erases parts hes not happy with and redraws then, i know how to use the erase tool but how is he switching back and forth from brush to erase so quickly and and not over erasing?, he does it perfectly
@SamHain1031666 I would say keyboard shortcuts (B for brush and E for eraser) are most likely being used and the opacity for both painting and erasing not set at maximum so it's kind of similar to working with traditional pencil or charcoal. Anyway this is what I do when I am working on linework, it seems to be pretty quick...it's really about how much practice you put in on how quick you become at drawing, clearly Jason Chan has put in many hours of hard work to reach a decent speed..
@olbertus Well whT I Hve realised abpout myself is that im a good photoshop artist but i just take too damn long. I just completed the largest project ive ever done on photoshop which was the new bat mobile and it looks exactly like the picture i copied it from, almost photo realistic. The problem is it took me about 2 weeks to finish and i know a pro could have done it in a day or less. I always find myself using the pen tool to section off every area of my piece in layers, is that good?
@SamHain1031666 It's not wrong that you use the pen tool to section off all the parts, but is definitely contributing to the length of time it takes to make your pieces. You seem to be approaching your finished illustrations the way a traditional airbrush artist might. It's accurate, but time consuming. Try loosen up your approach by not insisting on accuracy in the beginning. Go from generic shape to breaking down shapes into more and more details and just know when to stop. Not sure this helps
@Artillory1 Actually this does help so thank you, i had a suspicion of what you were saying but i wasnt 100% sure, now i know. Your very rigth that sectioning elements off is time consuming, im currently drawing the new bat mobile and i started by first drawing it and then sectioning off every single section lol, i mean if youve seen the new bat mobile youll know how time consuming that would be, its basically a tank lol. Ive only finished the wheels and im 250 layers in lol, maybe more
sometimes I spend so much time on artwork and then I realize that THIS IS BULLSHIT! I could draw something hundred times better in five minutes. I think when you work on few paintings at the same time it really helps.
@iikraveniik Select portion you need to adjust > edit > transform > scale (or select > ctrl+t). To exit the a transform tool just double click inside it. Or choose another tool.
By the way there are plenty of Photoshop tutorials for beginners :)
He's definetly nasty and got mad talent, but I just hate seeing this played out American comic book style of art wish he would draw in a more unorthodox style
"you know its like that...what voters really ugly. Those who test cars so let lower the nose, this issue, can't take this away, the hearing is world war two record"
@kodiak423 he uses photoshop, the best version out now is $1000 but there are cheaper versions. Wacom tablets range in price from about $70 to about $400.
The thing i like about your tutorials is that you actually learn something, All the stuff people post for free on youtube is just basic painting things you can teach your self in a few minuets here its more about trial and error on style and effectiveness of the painting. Defo checking out the subscriptions
I like this guy's explanations, however he seems to have this kind of smug attitude (likely just nerves being on camera) but he also has no idea how to conduct himself in an interview, hands in front of the face, glancing at the camera, way too many hand motions. And he appears to have absolutely no confidence in what he's saying. I can learn a lot from him, but I think he still needs to learn a lot too.

Awesome jobs on everything. But I would like to see the process up to the heaving coloring and shading up to the final pieces he shows. He skips the processes of that.
well it just that you really didnt need to say you were watching porn saying that you were just studying the human figure like what you just said would have made it less of a "problem"
Grab a sketchpad and a few good pencils and a kneaded eraser. Draw, draw, draw. Everyday. Use magazines and history books for references to influence your characters and environments. Practice a lot.
Maybe can you make and release new Marko Djurdjevics DVD where he show some about not character design like a his first DVD (it was fuckin good) but how he draw awesome scenes, other perspective, poses or something (maybe fight or death scenes or sth sick)? This guy was fuckin sick and he is the best illustrator, concept artist and character designer what ive ever seen! If marko dont wanna create new DVD maybe you have other sick master designer who can create something awesome with pencil?

The first villain gives me the final mental image of what lord Saron's master would look like, of course i refer to the Lord of the Rings books.

There's a good illustration of Morgoth/Melkor in the silmarillion.

Grab a sketchpad and a few good pencils and a kneaded eraser. Draw, draw, draw. Everyday. Use magazines and history books for references to influence your characters and environments. Practice a lot.

He has 5 videos out through Massive Black where he explains his process. Seems like that would be the best place to start.
