Even if standing under door ways hasn't been recommended for more than a decade, nobody every told us that it's un-recommended. The teachers in school are telling the students what they've always know. And we're all going off of what we were taught as children. I remember doing a red cross activity book...
@WhistleforErin Hawaii is ok. The Civil defense sirens came on at 9:31 pm. Scared the shit out of me. I had to jump on my boat at midnight and stay out there until 2 in the afternoon. There was some damage in Harbors on the Big Island and Maui and O'ahu. The water in the Harbors would surge, or expirece high tide and low tide in a matter of 5-10 minutes instead of six hours. But no one was injured and Waikiki didn't flood. Please visit Hawaii...we're bankrupt. :P Japan needs our prayers
Ha, we just had a one in two hundred year flood. Thank God for the Wivenhoe dam. Otherwise the state capital would've been 8 or 14m under water instead of 4.4m. A lot of records were broken that month...
Triangle of Life is pretty much bogus, unless you are in your tent, camping when the earthquake hits. Otherwise, Drop, Cover and Hold is the way to go in most of the world. Most earthquake deaths don't occur from building collapse (Haiti is an other story, due to the poor building codes and materials). Most earthquake deaths and injuries occur from non-structural hazards (stuff in the building), which Drop, Cover and Hold will better protect you against over Triangle of Life.
I like the concept of the triangle of life when the right circumstance presents itself.... but if your at home, I think your trying to avoid smaller objects like glass, it would be better to get under the table. I've lived in Cali for 50 years and I've been through allot of quakes... still waiting for the big one.
i believe more in "Triangle of Life" because if you go under a desk just like in School it will be like a piece of paper and easy to break or destroy but its also dangerous in "Triangle of Life" because if the object fall straight then your in real trouble!
nice shirt. anyhoo i live in alaska so we have a ton of earthquakes and we even do earthquake drills in school. i always think theyre stupid because anything that falls and can crush you will probably be able to crush the 1/2 inch thick table/desk youre under. yeah weve had like 3 aftershocks before. its not uncommon to have more than one. haha good luck with your san andreas fault line!
i dont know why but i always wanted to be in an earthquake. SOUTHRN CALIFORNIA HERE I COME!!! or Alaska ... doesnt really matter... plus i dont think my mum would let me leave NC just to go ahven an exsperience of an earthquake and have a chance that my life might be taken away! lol oh well... cant i have just have a little fun with John Lennon???
What happens when the "earth opens up"? Is anywhere safe? You could be standing still outdoors and then the earth gives way below you and you plummet to your death. Good thing I don't live near a fault line or any volcanoes!
Lol, almost a big earthquake every year. Where I live xD
This video didn't help me a thing :P

Woopeee i'm going to Heraklion, Greece this year, and last two times we were there, we had earthquakes.
Mini-eathquakes. Enough to make big cracks in the earth, but not enough to destroy buildings.
Not all of them. Only some sheds...
Still nice to know.
