Just a kid from Monroe.. saw: 1st hockey (1979) game. Then hundreds more. Queen. ZZtop (3X) .Tull Sabbath. BOC. Molly Hatchet. Outlaws. Foreigner. Marshall Tucker Band. Uriah Heep. Aerosmith. Cars. Yale vs Uconn BB. Last show- Guns n Roses.
I'll miss it. But, the shows have changed SO much (used to be a fog of smoke in teh place, and virtually NO limits on db levels) it would never be the same just the same.
why are they cheering this is what made new haven what it was.......it used to be the home of wwf i saw my first and only wrestling match here now its a parking lot wat a transformation

bro that thing was costing more money than what it was bringing in. They werent getting the good gigs anylonger. Back in the 80's and early 90's it was good because WWF was huge and came to town often, all the rock bands are you kidding me everyone used to go see the poisons, and guns n roses when they came to new haven. but thr past 10 years for that place was dry. yeah you had hockey and stuf but it was taking a toll on tax payers at minimal return.
I WAS THERE! i had a front view but i was more right of the building, we got most smoke because of the wind. I sweare i saw debris hit someone and some dude in a black truck was panicing behind the fence, and took out a big peice of curb and caught air off a parking block. I being about 12 or 11 at the time I thoght that cloud was toxic, so i ran backwards and saw a damn fence HAHA! and i tried to climb it and i started panicing, and then i realized i could breath with my shirt over my face.
The parking lot was badly needed, as it is almost impossible to park at the train station. I was inside the New Haven Coliseum a few times, and it was an eyesore.
All of you morons who cheered this are idiots. We lost a great building that served the community entertainment and was loved by thousands. Now we have a parking lot, clap at that.
