Lara's backpack has no magic or unmentionables involved, its just science.

Since the treasures are all triangular it makes it easier. If she places the old one in a corner and then places the next one next to it or with one of the sides touching it tightly then it will take up less space therefore she has more space than if she just threw them in her bag.
