Eddie you are a legend your fans love you. You were so drunk when you recorded this you couldent even keep time with Alex. You admitted yourself that you have a problem with booze so many times, just remember how many people love you and get high on that instead. We are all dying to hear your new album with dave wolfie and alex. Im just some asshole but Im speaking on behalf of my fellow Van Halen fans, we all love you and cant wait to see you kick ass on stage again.
@bigfish171 dont ever worry about that lil' man. if you do... you'll wind up mowing the grass in december. e.g. ( an empty sack ) you like classic rock... that all. Rock On.
does anyone here know what the story is behind the pictures where Eddie's hair is like pony tailed straight up? ive seen a lot of concert pictures where he looks like this. its also when he looks the worst too. like his lowest of times with alcohol and other problems.
@vikingbush Hard to say when his lowest time was - he's had some hard times, 1/2 of them self-induced - but he had his hair like that when I saw him live in '04. Still played the crap outta his guitar, tho... =)
@EVHguitarz they are eddie said (i think) that they are rehearsing "some cool tunes" hear about it later and drop dead legs. Hope they tour Australia:D
hes not playing bad at all. hes just screwing around. remember this was from 2004, sammy didnt let the band play any old stuff. hell, he probably forgot how to play it. give poor ed a break
That's the Atomic Punks, not Van Hagar/Halen/whatever at a soundcheck (with a crowd yelling). Listen at the end you can hear someone in the crowd say "Ralph" (as in Ralph Saenz...the singer for the Punks.) Nice try.
It IS Van Halen, and it's not from Detroit as the description says. It is the soundcheck from the Tucson, AZ show. The people in the crowd are saying "Wolf" and "Wolfie". At the end, you can hear Mike say "Let's play an oldie but a goodie"
If you still disagree, I can send you the audio from the whole soundcheck.
I'm glad I didn't see the 04' tour. I was at Charlotte for the opening of the 2007 tour and they did a good job... Everybody was pretty tight and put on a good show. Wolfie was a bit stiff but held up well on the bass and backgrounds and will just get better with stage antics over time. On a scale of wild to mild it was a bit mild but that's probably a bit of age creeping in. That's life... we're all headed there in the best of circumstances! Go see the guys and relive some memories!
Yeah, I know it's a soundcheck and I don't expect it to be perfect. I just know that for the standard that Eddie Van Halen has set, his snippet of playing here is sloppy.
I play in a band, so I am fully aware of what a sound check is. I am stating a fact about how Mr. Van Halen's playing sounds sloppy. It doesn't have to be dead-on, just to check levels, but I'm just surprised at how he sounds here. You folks are reading way too much into what I am saying.
I luuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuv this song. Got to be one of my favorite VH songs of any era. Aside from this, I don't think they ever did it live - from start to end that is. Maybe they thought they couldn't do it justice live due to Ed's killer outro solo with overdubbed rhythm parts. I'm sure they could've pulled it off.
Fuck I've had days where I just don't feel like playing and when I force it I sound uninspired and like shit
Now imagine feeling like this before a sold out show you can't cancel
YEP we're all fucking human man

fuck sammy hagar its van halen not van hagar
badasspeter69 1 year ago
that's Eddie, the tone is unmistakable. It's not an easy tone to reproduce.
As for the sloppy playing, he does this often, particularly in concert just look at him playing Eruption on the recent tour.
jonb5150 2 years ago
Are you sure this is Eddie? It doesn't even sound like him...or the rest of Van Halen for that matter...are you sure this is Eddie?
Force666666 2 years ago
It's Eddie during soundcheck in 2004.
This is the FIRST time this tune has ever been played live. Not even snippets had been played live before.
evh5150316 2 years ago
It's Eddie on guitar, but it's DEFINITELY Alex's drum kit, played by (presumably) the tech. I can tell Alex Van Halen's snare tone a mile away.
