  • awsome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • A commercial song doesn't pass the test of 25 years of time; only immense songs do it.

  • bellissimaaaaaa !!!!!!

  • 5:10" EPIC !!!

  • uuuuuuuoooooowoooohoooowooohoooooooooo.......

  • robin and jim sing great together, this song kicks ass!!

  • Well said, Robin Clarke makes this song even better! Classic SM song, best played in the summer in the car!

  • john giblin is ma grans cousin :)

  • A trully incredible bass player. He threw cups of water over us at the Barrowlands in 1987 when we were suffering heat-stroke.Always came across as a gent.

  • Dear youtube your queing sucks ty

  • ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba etc (thats what it says on the album lyric sheet.Love it!)

  • Jim's wonderful...and the backup singer has a great set of pipes!

  • This song and album is great : )

  • I love this song. The whole is so damn good.

  • I was so impressed with this band when I borrowed my roommates cassette to check out The Once upon a Time LP. I wouldn't stop playing it. Thanxs Weston from Prince George.

  • Once upon a Time is often rubbished as being commercial.....yes it's commercial, and its also fucking brilliant!

  • Amen! There is no problem in being commercial (ie viable for radio or for the recording companies, or even accessible to more listeners) if the band keeps their quality and passion for their work, and in this case once upon a time, as you said, is brilliant.

  • the whole band are unique, they perform as good live if not better than recorded.

  • THANKS for All your comments, I have had a great read. It would be wrong to delete this video now.

I only posted these videos because I could not find them on Youtube, and maybe someone else was looking too.

  • I have always loved this song and not enough credit was given to his backup singer. She is awsome, she makes this song!

  • fantastic bass play

  • i was there, at that gig

i meet a nice girl from that town,

    a short time later

    i went to her birthday

and seems she has a twin sister

that was once upon a time.

  • The version on live in the city of light is the best version. I really love this song. I went to see Simple minds along with Deacon Blue on Saturday in Belfast. Fantastic stuff.

  • jesus, how good is that...WOW

  • Live version even better than the album version!

  • I agree wholeheartedly - best version of this song Ive ever heard!!

  • Simple Minds has always been one of those bands that have that magic that just can't be reproduced faithfully in studio. Their live stuff is just so amazing. Their guitar work is really underrated.

  • Not in Glasgow guitar shops.Burchill is much loved .

  • A Great Album, A Great Band, A Great Time In Music!!--Long Live The 80's!!

  • this is 1st class

  • Just heard "Once Upon A Time" for the first time yesterday- it is a thumping, rocking album. There is a real energy in the record, from start to finish.

Believe these people when they say how good this band is live. What about the Backing singer? Brilliant.

    Ohhh Jungle laaaaaaaand. Whoohooooohhhhhhh.

  • I blast this out in the car the kids even love it!

  • i remember this i wanted to go i was 15 and my mum wouldnt let me go well gutted i think he was so sexy in this

  • ahhhh, i'm goin to come! love it!

  • Great album. Along with U2's Unforgettable Fire, the first LP I ever bought. Good times.

  • Awesome song & album. Thanks for posting!

  • brilliant their best song

  • Ah man, thanks for putting this up...over 20 years since I last saw it. Brings back great memories of their Ibrox Park concert on the same tour. They might take some (justifiable) stick for some of their crap from late 80's onwards....but at the Ahoy at that moment in time there were very few bands in the world who could beat the Minds in concert.

  • the next time you listen to this, try to focus on bass player john giblin, awesome!!!

  • Many of Simple Minds fans criticised the change of direction they made with the ONCE UPON A TIME album.I think its an outstanding record.Bold, brash, even over-blown in places, but who cares, put it on loud on a summer evening outside with a cold beer and re-discover it!

  • Thank you SO MUCH for posting this! Just my fav song from this amazing concert! Robin Clark and the percussion really makes this rendition for me!

  • Happy30th,

Thanks so much for posting this video! This is my favorite song from the 1985 Ahoy concert. When I hear that signature keyboard riff and Robin Clark's vocals, I get goose bumps!!

  • thanks for adding this, been looking for it for ages on youtube, ahoy concert is one of THE greatest live performances ever, pure class !!!
