back when I had my SEGA Genesis (which I no longer do) I never had Sonic 2, the only Sonic games I had were Sonic 1, Sonic 3, Sonic & Knuckles, and Sonic 3D Blast, that was all, I did get to rent Sonic 2 once... and I couldn't beat Chemical Plant, hey cut me a break, it was my first time playing the game.

From what I remember playing Sonic the Hedgehog 2, it was Tails who taught Sonic how to do the Dash Spin. It was Tail's way of keeping up with Sonic's running. Not sure if its cannon according to Sega, but its what I remember.

I honestly have no fucking idea what the big deal is about Sonic 2 special stages. I found them to be the EASIEST special stages in Sonic history. I never got Super Sonic though but THAT was because I could never make it to the last special stages because by then I was in fucking Metropolis Zone and I could never get 50 rings much less hold on to them for a checkpoint.

@romanmonaghan Ok, let's clarify something now. I was basing that comment on 10 year old memmories I have of playing Sonics 1 and 2. I'm 15 now so... Anyway, yeah so I had a Sega Genesis back in 01 and it was a pretty old system even then. But just recently I got the Sonic Mega Collection Plus for my PS2. I quickly realized that my memorries of the Sonic 2 special stages were FALSE. I HATE the Sonic 2 special stages especially with Tails as your partner.

if anyone wants level select put in the music 19,65,09,17 if your playing on the gamecube hold the B button and click on the 1 player mode thumbs up if this works (thumbs up so it gets top so everyone can use level select)

I remember that I had the genesis when I was little, like REALLY little, from before I was born until I was like 8-10 or something. I played the hell outta this game! Though being like 5 or 6 at the time, I was horrible at the game (I almost always died midway through the Chemical Plant stage 2), but I kept starting over and playing again. The only time I saw the later levels was when my family friends came over. I will always remember this as the game that introduced me to Sonic

This is my favorite game of all time too, but I always play as just Tails just because he's also my favorite videogame character of all time, and thi is my favorite game with him in it, since this is before he turned into a "raving pussy." XD

P.S. It's also the special stage in Sonic Rush and Sonic Colors, at least the DS version.

Here in Europe there's no mention of a "Westside Island" and the two friends often competed, Sonic doing his "super spin attack" and Tails doing HIS signature move the "super dash attack" (spin dash); whenever Sonic wanted to tease Tails he would leave him behind but the "persistent" fox just flew after him.

Robotnik's motive this time involved him controlling most of South Island and building the Death Egg in an attempt to obtain the 7 Chaos Emeralds and take over Mobius .

I LOVE THIS GAME! I got it for Christmas, and Tails was the best thing to happen to the game in my opinion... until Sonic 3 had Knuckles, and then Sonic Adventure had Shadow. But Tails will always be dear to my heart, as will the old Sonic games ^_^!
