  • Fittipaldi's car control after hitting Al's rear wheel is incredible.

  • Dirty pass my eye. I was there. It was Al Jr. who once more tried to pull one of his dirty tricks, this time against a real class act like Emo. Emo saw it coming, protected himself and... Al lost. End of story. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy. Real class at the finish too Al. What a jerk. An embarassment to America. Anyone who posts a stupid reply to this is a idiot and I could care less what you think, so save it...

  • Emmo didn't throw his car against Al, he just keep his way and Al came by the outside and crash emmo's car, an accident, not a dirty pass, Like you trynig to say.

  • If you initiate contact during a pass, and wreck the guy you are passing, you are an idiot. Let's say Lemmo is a great driver. He drives into the corner knowing full well he will contact Al and it is most likely that the car to his outside will be wrecked, possibly causing injury or worse to that driver. He makes the move anyway. That makes him an idiot in any form of racing. Any idiot can wreck the driver leading to win a race. A truly great driver will make a clean pass.

  • @mtnbikerdenis look at 0:40 to 0:44, Al making a VERY VERY clean manouver...trying to take Emmo out of the track.

  • Drinking milk is an Indianapolis 500 tradition. Indiana farmers have a lot of pride in their product and have sponsored the race for years. That is disrespecting a sponsor who helps make the race possible and the money the driver wins. Never see the orange people sponsoring anything.

  • Emmo is Legend. As a British motorsport fan I will never forget his achievements both in Indycar and F1. Formula One world champ at in 1972, Double Indy 500 winner Indy series champ and still showing the young guys how its done in the 90's. Anyone who still holds a grudge for him not drinking the traditonal milk after his indy 500 win should let it go, Anyway, drinking milk is no way to celebrate a win, Champagne is the only way to go im afraid

  • I was there with my dad and we watched it happen. Great moment.

  • amazing race. amazing era. Proud to be Brazilian. Thanks EMO, Thanks Al Unser Jr, for being an example of sportsman. i was 9 years-old and i still remember that day. Gonna tell my grandchildren about how it.

  • One of finishes I will always remember.

  • What a Class Act! I know if it were me I would have curse every word there was I can think of...

  • I'm glad that Al Jr. gave Emmo the thumbs up as he was going around to take the checkered flag. Sometimes I wonder if they would do the same thing today with some of the arrogance that has overtaken sports, but the Indy racers we have today are, for the most part, fine individuals and show good sportsmanship....though I could name a few people that I question. (Helio, Danica...)

  • These were the days when Indy was good.

  • Al Unser Jr. had a good chance of winning. Their impatience is not allowed.

But Fittipaldi led much of the race. The Winner.

  • Comment removed

  • that is what makes Indy great

  • Both drivers are so classy. We could really use some of that class in today's series.

  • I love how Fittipaldi describes that they were both looking at each other while battling for the lead, sounds epic

  • I feel the same now as I did then, Fittipaldi drove way over his head. He drove nearly on the grass and could have killed Al. Screw that stuck up idiot!!!!!!!!!!

  • @mtnbikerdenis

    Snifs, snifs, snifs...

SHUT THE FUCK UP, EMERSON FITTIPALDI IS THE BEST!

TWO TIME F-1 CHAMPION, TWO TIME INDY 500 WINNER AND INDY CHAMPION!!!

    EMERSON>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>ABYSS>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>little al

The only IDIOT here, IS YOU!

  • @mtnbikerdenis Shut fuck up you, idiot, Emerson is a Great Champion and a Great person too. he used to drive with aces like Jackie Stewart, Ronnie Peterson, Clay Regazzoni, Niki Lauda and beat them for two times (1972-1974). Always without cheats and others dirty things we see in these days. So you can get your arrogation out of here.

  • @Elbrusbase Nope. I live in a free country and can say what I like I can write complete sentences and spell correctly, You are the idiot. Look at all of the errors in your post. Your memory is flawed as well. Lemmo raced when only 2 or 3 cars could win. He was good but not that good. See what he did in inferior cars. He was a rolling road block.

Oh yeah, what cheats? How do you know Lemmo wasn't cheating? Fact is, you don't. Dirty things? How about Lemmo driving Al Unser Jr. into the wall?

  • @mtnbikerdenis Sure you write correctly, you leave in USA and speak english; I don't know english too well, because i speak Portuguese, two completely diferent languages. I don't have any doubt, you couldn't write one pharse in portuguese.

2 or 3 cars ? tyrell, mclaren, Lotus and Ferrari, its 4, And today is a very diference than this i supose. You trying to campare a "little Dad's baby" like Al to a legend of 70's F1 driver, Emmo only not won in F1, every rank of automobilism he pass, he win.

  • The best finish ever at Indy.

Even though it ended with Al Unser Jr crashing out, his battle with Emerson was one of the most intense moments at Indy, if not the most intense.

Can you think any other Indy race where 2 guys were racing side by side into a turn with less than 2 laps to go?

  • what an incredible gesture of sportsmanship!! i don't think i've seen one since.

  • Al Jr. What a class act, could've should've flipped him off, and instead decided to give him a 2 thumbs up.

    A++++++++

  • your hart rids with the winner and your heart also rides with the looser

  • Yup, at Indy its 2 men enter, only 1 man leaves. . .

  • it's Indy, emmo had dominated the race & Al tried to steal it right at the end, Fittipaldi wasn't having it. neither driver had won Indy B4 & were both overdue & very hungry. i'd have done the same thing, at Indy it's win or crash N burn...

  • what a ridiculous statement! al didn't ry to "steal" anything. the patrick crew made a huge mistake and overfilled fittipaldis fuel tank on his last stop. the galles boys didn't make that mistake with al. emmo's crew nearly threw in all away.

  • Love Indy, love the sprint car reference too "slide job".

  • Amazing.... We Brazilians miss this kind of stuff... Formula 1 is not being nice to us since the departure of Senna.... aff.. good times... I miss that... I reeeeally miss that... anyway... nice video....

  • what about felipe massa last year? he almost won the world championship in his home country?

  • thats why I said that... last year wasnt a nice year as well... can u imagine how did we fell after so many mistakes coming from ferrari!?!?! its just unacceptable... but anyway... lets see what happens next year.... c ya...

  • I wanted Rubens to stay alive in Brazil sooooo bad. I didn't care who won but I wanted Barrichello to stay in the fight down to the wire. Would've been awesome to have a Brazilian champ again.

  • Senna quiz correr as 500 Milhas de Indianapolis... ele só não foi correr em 93 na Formula Indy por causa da Mclaren... e em 94 por causa da Williams...

  • I was sitting between turns 3 and 4 on the inside of the track. This duel unfolded right in front me. Knowing Al Jr, I figured he was gonna toss his helmet at Emmo. Glad he didn't.

  • @drafter28 You may have been sitting right next to me then :) I was an Al Jr. fan at the time so I was pretty disappointed, but that was some of the most exciting racing I had witnessed there in person. Jr.'s car slid to a stop too far away from me to see what king of gesture he gave Emmo at the time, but when I found out it was a thumbs up, I had to give him some credit. I don't know if I could've shown that kind of sportsmanship at that particular time.

  • I was 7 and sitting in the front stretch for this race. Al Jr. was my favorite, and I cried when he didn't come around to take the white flag. I thought it was Emmo's fault then and I still do. There's no way he could have driven that car through the turn. He would have ended up in the wall if he didn't bank off of Jr.'s car. I guess I forgive him for it now though. He definitely gave one back in '94 - crashed while leading with more than a 30 second lead and less than 20 laps to go.

  • Al Unser Jr driver is a daunting challenge, but at the time was very irresponsible for some moments, but I think that really gave Fittipaldi a touch of experience in Al Jr. .. Excellent Video! ! !

  • Mad as hell, and still a shows some of the most respectible sportsmanship anywhere.

The drivers of the 500 are among the most classy, and should be renowned as some of the most respected athletes in the world of not only racing, but sports.

    I cannot wait until May!!!

  • I was never an Al Jr. fan but after this day I really felt for him and felt he was a class guy. Now if only we could talk Rick Mears back from retirement.

  • As much as I'd love that to happen. . .it just won't. I wish he hadn't retired as early as he did. . . Raced on in 93' and especially 94'. The Penske /Mercedes of 1994 annihilated all comers.

  • I want Panoz and Lola to build new chassis for the 2011 IndyCar Series.

  • @LolaJudd i want Coyote to come back

  • Fantastic stuff!!!
