This song made me become a Rush fanatic. They're such an awesome band. And I agree, music from the old days is so much better than it is today. I try to keep an open mind and get into these new artists but I can't because they suck. And you know damn well Lady Gaga will be voted into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame long before Rush ever is. Actually, they should call the Rock NRoll Hall of Bullshit!
Who says you can't go back in time?! To see and hear the passion in the music by true legends,is nothing short of a gift.I just wish today's youth would put down the media driven/corporate garbage, and listen to REAL music. I won a radio contest back in Nov '87 and got to meet Rush on their "Hold Your Fire" tour.It was the thrill of a lifetime.Still have my tour book, concert shirt, backstage pass and signed ticket.MSG were great guys, too! Thank, for sharing this wonderful vid with us.
Signals is my absolute favorite Rush album. And this is coming from a guy who was really in to metal in the 80's and didn't like their new direction, all that much. But this album is so original sounding and every song has a vibe that could only be on this album and none of their others.
No digital back then, no internet, no HDTV, no satellite radio, no cell fones or computers but damn great, passionate legendary music! that meant something. True music! and real talent.
@fred1671 So do I. I'd give it all up to go back. This is the decade of blah. A whole lot of image, but no substance. Boring, uninspired computerized disposable marketing product disguised as "music". Stylized hate by multi millionaries pretending to be street people. Cardboard cutout "artists" who can't make a move without their corporate controllers telling them what to do.
What really gets me is no matter how mediocre music gets, no matter how dumbed down, the majority continues to buy it!
Whole lotta bass pedal action... both of them from 0:45 to 1:20. So Geddy's playing bass synth with his left hand and right foot, and Alex with his right foot. How much bass can you get?
One of my favorite Rush songs. What I love about not only the lyrics to this song, but many others (i.e. Witch Hunt--just as one other example), is that they are timeless and will always be relevant.
This is AWESOME! I saw this tour at the old Boston Garden- I was 16! I recently rediscover the greatness of this band and enjoying the more than ever.
I got to see Max webster open for Rush twice. Skipped school to make the trip to indianapolis for the second show the next day after being floored in Louisville by the show.
glad i saw them back then, and metallica, accept, dio, quiet riot, twister sister, iron maiden....all before 1986....fuck yea,. so so glad i saw them,...rush is one of the greatest bands EVER
Yes, he is surely beating the crap out of his kit, 'especially' in this performance... this is exceptional here..can't say I've seen a tighter more aggressive performance by Neil...his kick and the whole kit is just way loud in the mix as well!...Awesome!! Simply awe3some...so Tight
Someone invent a time machine ALREADY! I need to go back in time and see this tour again! These live shows were just EPIC in the 80s. The energy of the band combined with the energy of the crowds back then was magical. The hair on my arms stands up everytime I watch all these great live videos from Signals and GUP! RollTheFemers...you kick ass!!! Thanks so much!!! ;-)
no its not... Geddy says "beautiful suburbia" and that was meant to be sarcastic... he's talkin to suburban kids and then dedicating the song to them.
oh, I know =)...didn't actually think of the sarcastic aspect of it, but the way he said it just reminded me of a tribal chant (I've watched WAY too much TV...haha)

i was born in 1994.. my dad truely introduced me to Rush when in 2008 and loved them from the start
...i have never been to a Rush concert...
but to see AN 80's CONCERT of them and have them sound near exactly THE SAME as the actual song is very impressive for me even
...i need to see them live now... <:)

Saw them on this tour at The Meadowands Brendan Byrne Arena. I was 19. And I had already seen them on the 2 previous tours. THEY ARE STILL GREAT!

I like the original analog synth, the quality of keyboards has gone down, not up since then

This was amazing to witness live when Geddy switched, back and forth, from keyboards to bass. All live, no tape, just talent.
TheDudeJeffCanuckski 3 years ago
It sounds like they sped up the song a bit.
skierstar77 3 years ago
Yeah, Neil is pushing the tempo a bit... they were all so young (30-ish) and full of energy.
If you see other live performances from this era up until the early 90's, you can see Neil pushed the tempos a lot live. I kinda like it.
gemari77 3 years ago
I'll take this tempo compared to how its currently played ANY day!
Steeltowner 3 years ago
@skierstar77 You could even say they rushed it ... no? :)
