yes but it is a lot easier if you make gimp create a grid and make it snap the images to the grid saves u about 20 minutes. If you want i could make a vid to show you.
when i first tried doing water for the game engine I tried that.
I maxed out all the specular settings and changed my diffuse shader (the top 1) to fresnel and put the first 2 slider at max and the last as low as possible. I also mapped a sky image to Reflection instead of Orco like you would for a normal texture.
oh sorry i wasn't very clear. i was woundering how u got the texture to move like that, so far as i know there is no way of using animated textures in the game engine... but obviously u found one :)
Click on the link in the video description they tell you how to make an animated normal map by rendering it in blender and then creating and animation 'strip grid thing' in the Gimp. So basically I created my water following the same technique they used in Yo Frankie for water.

There already is one on how to get something similar but I might do a tutorial on it and how to get refractive water.
Blackrusader 2 years ago
Did you make the tiling animation tex by hand like in the tutorial? I really want a better way.

Blackrusader 3 years ago
But gimp doesn't have a dynamic grid size... which is really dumb. Unless it does and I just can't find the setting. Tell meee.
Bleenderhead 3 years ago
Oh, and the fact that on macs you can't drag images into the app to load them as layers like he did will cost me 20 minutes as well...
Bleenderhead 3 years ago
That story horrified me so much I decided to post my animated normal map texture for everyone to use.
Blackrusader 3 years ago
Oh wait, I found a script for it now :P
Bleenderhead 3 years ago
post your result I have heard about that script but I never bothered to look it up.

how did you get an animated texture to run in the game engine? and when nikolay116 says blending, what does he mean? very nice affect btw :)
totter333 3 years ago
Its in the tutorial of the link posted in the vid description.
I think Blending means changing the material settings in Blender of the water which is what I did. : )
Blackrusader 3 years ago
oh cool... so what material settings did u change? just the ofs, and then use an ipo?
