  • I had this movie on VHS with it translated into Russian, it was one my favorite movies when I was little, and I still love it ! The animation is beautiful! That was one of the reasons I liked it so much!

  • Just like Tom and Jerry

    without Jerry

  • This was my FAVORITE FAVORITE film when I was very young. There was only one VHS copy in town and I think I wore it out from making my mom rent it so many times. I didn't realize as a toddler that it was a Japanese film dubbed in English. I will have to watch it again as an adult now that I know Miyazaki was involved.

  • For some reason, the animation looks more western than Japanese.

  • Far better than Dreamworks version

  • Wow! I still have a taped VHS of this film since I was young. I never knew it was anime till I saw Toei's logo from DragonBall Z years ago. I gotta have this on DVD.

  • is it the same thing with puss'n'boots from shrek? or did the shrek one bought the title?

  • any body knows where can I get this movie, down load it , rent it or buy it. at netflix they have a diferent version.

  • Gall dern it, why can't anyone upload the full english version of this movie?

  • @KiddJetix

there is actually a dub version of the first Pero the cat movie but It would be nice if saban brands can redub this movie though.

  • Haha. I liked the fairy tale version of Puss 'n Boots, and this one looks cute. :) Thanks for posting!

  • Pero is my hero!

  • Just posted the entire movie ..enjoy:)

  • OMG this was a Miyazaki film! I saw this when I was very small. x.x

  • I was mesmerized when I first saw this years ago. Still looks good.

  • lol I loved this move as a kid, and it's still brighting up my day (:

  • You all should really watch this movie. by by toei animation, is reccomended by me.

and to all of you who want it-go to netflix and order it for free. keep it for as long as you want, for $9.00 a month!

  • He did not animate this entire movie, people. He did the chase scenes.

  • this used to be my favorite movie when i was a kid

  • wow i remember watching this movie ages ago was in english would love to see it again

  • i only ever saw around the world, cant wait to check this one out.

  • Charming

  • I don't think many of you realize just how breathtaking this animation really is for its age and time - compare this to Scooby Doo and your head starts to reel! Miyazaki is truly a talented man and this clearly shows how far back his talent has run!!

  • @Haileyamandar: That's not an entirely fair comparison. Scooby Doo is a TV show, this is a feature film. So you should be comparing to Disney features. That being said, this does compare quite well to Disney features, and by the 1990s, anime arguably bypassed Disney animation in terms of technical excellence (in terms of artistic excellence, they had done so by the 80s).

  • everybody is right. just an awesome anime. brings back good memories.

  • I'm not surprised to find Miyazaki did this.

This movie just makes my head spin.

    It's freakin' long too.

  • OMG I've been looking for this forEVER, does anyone have the full version uploaded? I can't find it

  • I'm looking all over for it so I can upload it XD

  • Thanks! Please do when you find it! :)

  • omg!!!!!

this was my absolute favorite cartoon when i was little!

  • Me and my sister watched this amazing movie when we were kids; I was able to get it on dvd almost two years ago and I still love it. My favourite scene is the last one when Pierre and the princess are in the tower and fall to be rescued by a flock of doves. Great memories. Thanks so much for posting this. =)

  • this is the puss n boots i used to wach when i was a kid , i liked the ' i got and you got me and just between the two of us' song that pierre and pero sing when hey start their journey. and the sunlight strike the pendant part at te end . hehehe

  • wow i used to watch this as a little kid in russia

still as awesome as i remember

    thanks for putting it up

  • i used to watch this as a little kid in russia too

  • Sounds like a rather funny movie!

  • Yes! This one! This is the one I owned as a child!

I suspect it was in english though...but I do remember hardly paying attention to what they were saying, only what they were doing :P

  • nostalgia as shit for me too

  • I saw this way back in the day, and have been spoiled by its detailed anime ever since! Ha, but then I don't think anything Miyazaki has done hasn't caught my eye! Excellent work!

  • yeah, I was also spoiled by conan future boy, miyazaki's first tv series.

  • Actually I own this movie and Miyazaki was only the Key Animator on this, not the director.

It was still a very cute movie though. Very entertaining, only I suggest you watch it subtitled. The dubbed version sucks.

  • That was amazing animation for its time. O.o

    Go Miyazaki-san!

  • En España acaba de salir esta película en DVD, sacada por la compañía Divisa.

Totalmente recomendable para los fans de Miyazaki, del anime en particular y del cine de animación en general; imprescincible!!

  • Anyone know where I can find this on bittorrent?

This and the one with Pero in the Wild West?

  • Definately strong elements of Miyazaki especially the comic scenes, themes like castles, clockwork, childhood's first love archtype older male villians, buildings falling apart piece by piece and flying crafts. Classic!

  • 懐かしくて、涙出そうになりました。びっくりしたニャ~。

  • OMG! I haven't seen this one in years! The that I had was an English version though...my dad was forced to buy the betamax tape (yes, it was in betamax tape then) because it was too overdue to return it to the rental store! I can still remember the princes singing from the balcony: Oh, why does the moon keep shining, in the lonely sky? Oh why, does my the heart remind me, no one is as lonely as I, lonely as I. That was in the English version that I had then, though.

  • OMG I USED TO WATCH THIS WHEN I WAS LIKE 5!! THANK YOU I can't believe I was watching Hayao Miyazaki's work before I even knew him at all like I do know with all his other great achievements. THANK YOU FOR UPLOADING THIS CLIP!!! THANK YOOOOOOOOOOOU!

  • well, i can tell you one thing, that's NOT miyazaki

  • "It was directed by Kimio Yabuki, but the key animators, including Miyazaki, were given a great deal of creative freedom over the picture, not only in terms of animation but also screenplay and direction. Plus, the key animators were required to draw storyboards of the scenes assigned to them." -Earlier post by Extraordinaire

  • huh i very clearly remember this movie from my childhood...

dont remember it being anime ¬¬

  • The final of the film is the prototipe of Cagliostro's Castle.

  • i should have known there is a fairy tale of this cat after I watched Shrek 2.

  • Damn, I remember this from when I was a kid... the castle in the end impressed me like hell. Remembering feeling sorry for the evil cats too. I never knew it was such a high-quality animation, everything was the same back when you where a kid.

  • I own the English version of this (better sound effects), and I loved it since I was a child. I can't find my copy of "Puss in Boots Goes Around the World" though. Not as good as this one but still cute for children.

  • When I bought the DVD, I was surprised by a reference to another early Toei animated feature..."Jack And The Witch". I remember seeing that movie on local TV stations waaaay back in the 1970's (yes, i'm that old) along with "Puss 'n Boots" and "Animal Treasure Island".

I'm hoping Discotek Media has plans on releasing "Jack And The Witch" on DVD soon...and like Toledo1837 I can help with the english soundtrack! :D

  • i thin kur refering to jack and the beanstalk in the 70's on hbo but i may be wrong

  • I know of that movie...i've seen it. So I can say with certainty they're not the same movie.

"Jack And The Witch" ("Shonen Jakku To Mahoutsukai") was released by Toei Animation back in 1967.

Do a websearch for "Jack And The Witch"...you might be surprised by what you find.

  • oh c i told u i could be wrong. Is jack and the witch good?

    peace

  • Well, I liked it anyway!

And if Discotek Media has plans on releasing "Jack And The Witch" on DVD, I have a copy with a good-quality english soundtrack.

  • id love to see it where can i watch it?

  • I have found 2 movies of Puss in boots in this style... but they're both in Japanese without subs :/ So I don't know what the heck is going on lol.

  • i still think miyazaki would make an awesome zelda movie

  • There was also a video game for the Nes based on this anime, and pero the cat also appeared in an episode of Captain N the gamemaster.

  • Albeit, a tad off-model and probably more unaware of in the US due to the non-presence of anime fandom we see today.

  • Oddly enough, that episode was animated in japan. Not by Toei, though. I think the evil Pig and weasel things are from another one of the Puss N Boots movies.

  • So this is Pero before he became Toei Animation's mascot. This film looks like it has everything, drama, comedy, romance etc. It looks pretty good. Kodos to Toei and Miyazaki-san before moving onto Studio Ghibli.

  • good animation... japan has the power doing the films... us will never make such a great movies as japan... well.. talking about animation offcourse

  • I disagree -- look at "Fantasia" and the Fleischer "Superman" cartoons. That's quality work.

That said, I think America today is a poor environment for good animation. Ever since television began it's been relegated to kids' stuff, and now it seems like American cartoons are all either kiddie fare, irreverent sitcoms, or weird indie stuff...

  • Yeah with Anime around some people tend to underestimate what American animation is capable of. I agree that Japan's work is great, and yeah nowadays American cartoons are kinda off but there have been some really impressive achievements in animation on the U.S.A's part if you look at alot of the movies that came out during the late 80's and through the 90's =)

  • Absolutely. Even if Disney's movies are kid-oriented fluff, you've gotta respect the level of workmanship that goes into animating them. Too bad traditional animation is getting phased out in favor of 3D in a lot of places...

  • (continued) I think the problem with American animation vis a vis anime is that there just isn't a market for cartoons with drama or in-depth storylines. The studios and networks just won't buy 'toons like that. With the rise of anime fandom, though, I think things are changing -- shows like "Avatar" may be a harbinger of better things to come.

  • Oh yeah defenitely. I was just discussing this with someone the other day actually. We agreed that those storylines also made a big difference. And yeah, with anime becoming more popular, the U.S. has good motivation to step up their storylines. Now if they only started bringing animated features back to theaters we'd be in business :)Imagine what kind of animation we could pull off with today's skill and technology. I say we need a break from the CG movies

  • Especially since 90% of the CG movies all seem to be about talking animals cracking wise and making pop culture references...

I wish people would realize that CGI and traditional animation are two separate art forms. A lot of folks seem to think that CGI has replaced traditional animation, when really they both have a place in theaters.

  • WELL PUT, sir! well put! personally, i have very little interest in CG... but i realise this isn't a discussion about that. i also think there's altogether too much low-brow comedy, fantastically terrible horror films, and action-packed nonsense... but this isn't a discussion about that, either. i love Miyazaki! i hope he can make a difference.

  • exhibit A of awesomeness: Don Bluth

  • I second that! I'm a huge fan of all Don Bluth movies <3

  • Don Bluth and Miyazaki was my childhood! I love them!

  • Don Bluth is teh awesome..I even met him. ^-^

  • I had a puss n boots anime tape o_o it was'nt this, but more like he was traveling the world in 80 days and it's dubbed in english. There's an evil pig guy with his cat minions trying to stop puss n boots XD

  • That was the second of two sequel features that were produced featuring Pero (though an English dub renamed him as "Pussty" for whatever reason I don't know).

  • I wanna see those! Anywhere I could find them?

  • ur all fucking nerds!

  • thank you.

  • It is an anime classic. Key Animation done by THE Miyazaki San and other Anime Geniuses that made anime in a whole new way.

  • Omg I used to watch this movie zillions of times when I didnt even know what anime was... x3

  • One of the bests anime movies (with Castle of Cagliostro, Princess Mononoke, etc). That cat became later the emblem of Toei Animation.

  • Toei Animation also made this movie, that's why he's their emblem.

  • Jeez!!!! Animation before was soooooooooo dramatic!!! I LOVE IT!!!!

WHY ARE ANIMATIONS THESE DAYS SOOOOOOO BORING???!

Sure they're packed with actions but... something's always missing! T_T

  • o.O

  • I did not know that Puss n' Boots was originally from Miyazaki...I really thought ppl who created Shrek created Puss n' Boots.

  • Dear Lady

The world is vast and there are many versions of everything just as there are varieties of flowers and bugs. ^_^

  • Funny people don't realize Puss 'n Boots has been around for centuries.

  • It's an old fairy tale by the grim brothers. You american? ^^'

  • WOAAAAHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh this goes WAY back into anime history. first miyazaki film AND in the first 10 years of anime.

  • This is a great movie. Much less Disney, and much more Tom and Jerry or Bugs Bunny. It's a classic of slapstick comedy, and one of the most famous from Japan. All of the major talent at Toei Animation was involved - Mori, Otsuka, Kotabe, and Miyazaki. I've been writing about Puss in Boots on my Ghibli blog (www.conversations-on-ghibli.blogspot.com), so feel free to stop by...after getting the Puss in Boots DVD, of course.

  • It was directed by Kimio Yabuki, but the key animators, including Miyazaki, were given a great deal of creative freedom over the picture, not only in terms of animation but also screenplay and direction. Plus, the key animators were required to draw storyboards of the scenes assigned to them.

  • I was glad to help out in locating the English track they're using for the DVD release.

  • I have this movie, in english too! i use to watch it when i was like 5!!! I didn't know this was Miyazaki well then again I didn't even know this was anime when i was like 5

  • Wow! I'm a big Miyazaki fan, and this looks great. Pretty Disney-fied interpretation of the fairy tale, but I still really want to see it!
