Popular opinion should not be a part of the debate on issues like Proposition 8. That's like saying that "well the popular opinion is that jews should be kicked out so let's leave it at that."

I don't see what the big deal is with Gays wanting marriage. They just want the same rights of tax benefits, medical benefits, etc, etc... that marriage gives straight people. Civil Unions for some reason do not offer the same benefits. And the civil rights thing does make sense because it was about stopping the idea that just because someone was different they had to abide by different laws. Why should gays abide by different laws just because they're gay?

Basically if you recall, Israel has a blocked surrounding Gaza, They're supposed to let some 700 trucks of food and supplies into the town in order to feed the population. They allow about %15 of that. Hamas has offered to surrender and even recognize Israel's post-1967 boarders. But that's not good enough for Israel, they want genocide of the Arab population. So they antagonized Hamas into firing rockets. It's all a genocide.

@Command0182 About that document. It does not apply to the Palestinians because they were not involved in the six day war. It was fought between Israel, Jordan, Egypt and Syria. It says "withdrawal of Israel armed forces from territories occupied in the recent conflict". It does not say "all the territories" and it does not specify which ones. Israel did return Sinai to Egypt in its peace talks and Gaza was offered as well, but Egypt didn't want Gaza.

Since Israel is now at peace with Jordan, the settlements cannot be considred illegal because they are technically not on occupied land. The morality of them is up for debate but the legality shouldn't be.

With regards to The Golan Heights and Syria, yes the Golan Heights is an occupied territory. However, resolution 242 also says that it only applies if there is "respect for and acknowledgment of the sovereignty, territorial integrity of every state in the area and their right to live in peace within secure and recognized boundaries". Seeing as Syria has not recognized Israel's right to exist, Israel has no obligation to return the Golan Heights.

I don't see what the big deal is with Gays wanting marriage. They just want the same rights of tax benefits, medical benefits, etc, etc... that marriage gives straight people. Civil Unions for some reason do not offer the same benefits. And the civil rights thing does make sense because it was about stopping the idea that just because someone was different they had to abide by different laws. Why should gays abide by different laws just because they're gay?

Basically if you recall, Israel has a blocked surrounding Gaza, They're supposed to let some 700 trucks of food and supplies into the town in order to feed the population. They allow about %15 of that. Hamas has offered to surrender and even recognize Israel's post-1967 boarders. But that's not good enough for Israel, they want genocide of the Arab population. So they antagonized Hamas into firing rockets. It's all a genocide.

@Command0182 About that document. It does not apply to the Palestinians because they were not involved in the six day war. It was fought between Israel, Jordan, Egypt and Syria. It says "withdrawal of Israel armed forces from territories occupied in the recent conflict". It does not say "all the territories" and it does not specify which ones. Israel did return Sinai to Egypt in its peace talks and Gaza was offered as well, but Egypt didn't want Gaza.

With regards to The Golan Heights and Syria, yes the Golan Heights is an occupied territory. However, resolution 242 also says that it only applies if there is "respect for and acknowledgment of the sovereignty, territorial integrity of every state in the area and their right to live in peace within secure and recognized boundaries". Seeing as Syria has not recognized Israel's right to exist, Israel has no obligation to return the Golan Heights.

Alaska reserves will reduce our dependence on foreign oil so little that it would barely leave a mark. We should lower needs for oil instead (via energy efficiency)and would achieve the same result, and still have Alaskas beautiful land unaffected.Besides if,say, the middleeast decided to stop giving us oil to shut us down,we could use those reserves that were still there in Alaska(because they'd be gone if we used them now),and stay on our feet for a few months until we could fix the situation.

Sure, they make electronics and cut diamonds (and grow fruit!), but that US money is definitely helping out.
