"We always think of fame and fortune as if they go together. But they don't really. The fame may come first and the fortune may come and it may not come . Eventually it can come perhaps...it doesn't always come." I am glad it eventually came.
@GamerX7800X It can be found on the Glass: A Portait of Philip in 12 Parts Soundtrack. You should be able to find the album for free somewhere around the net.
You hear remasted works of Bach, Beethoven, Mozart.. and are left wondering... 200 years from now... people will be listening to Philip Glass, and also wondering what it might have been like to see him during his time. You who grasp this idea are no different than those back in the days of the greats mentioned above. The time line has only shifted. Cherish your life, for once they were like you.
@franklindavid why cant mistake, dread and war and the atomic bombs not inspire music if anything great art has come from suffering and Einstein genius has left us suffering in many ways. If you can only see music in all that is serene and green and dandy you have run away from allot of art.
I saw "Einstein on the beach" in Berlin and was very impressed. But I saw Wilsons production "Le regard du sourd" already in Paris and this a wonderful experience of a new theater and quite new research of time.

nolanryan999 you have to put your Headphones in your ears not in the ass.. compare glass to beyonce it's like comparing chocolate and shit... with all the respect for beyonce :D
This is the only Glass piece that interests me whatsoever. He strenuously rejected complexity most of the time, a move that if you want to capture my interest in particular, fails. But this piece, it's a little more complex than the rest, and there's something else about it.
I think Glass is one most amazing persons in our current music history - after i first heard knee play 5 i got interested about those unbelievable emotions one could put into music
it took some time to get used his "language" :)
Now i've been listening him for quite some years. Bought even this "opera" on vinyl - Tomato records, '79.
Title fits perfectly.
I'd like to have all this show with moving pictures, as seen here - that would be great.
Einstein on the Beach is the opera which impressed me most. I listen to it again and again, I've got the records and CD, but I wonder does the full opera exist on video or dvd (with film) and can one buy or find it somewhere?
@jefds You can get the DVD "Absolute Wilson" which is a film about the great director and his works but I can't find EOTB anywhere. I'm sure it's available as I remember my Uni lecturer showing it to us some time ago (1999, so it may have been a video) but yers, a truly great piece of theatre which has never been topped.
@Foleyesque Done some research, the video he showed you was either the documentary made about the 1985 revival or the near full (but silent) video recording of the opening night in Avignon in 1976 which is partially shown here. The documentary is available as a download and the 1976 film is in the New York Public Library.
Philip Glass is one of my influences and inspiration on my visual work. I saw him on La Belle e la Bete on NY in 95'. Thanks for this great video!! More, mas, more, mas!

Einstein was a genius! But splitting of the Atom was the biggest mistake for mankind, today it's a dread to the world. I don't see any music in it.
franklindavid 1 year ago
@franklindavid That's exactly why he made music for it.
ROCK5LIN 10 months ago
@franklindavid Thats not necessarily true. In a way the fact that everyone has an Atom Bomb of sorts strengthens world peace.

can't stand glass... he generally writes music on a level comparable to beyonce. this is a huge exception though.... beautiful moving music

@LordZentei That's what I was thinking: Eminem on the Beach. Would Philip like to re-introduce his music to the young generation that way?
