  • Thank you Sir!

  • I'm 22, 5'4 and I weigh 109 pounds. I am trying to get down to 95-100 max, and I was wondering, in terms of making my thighs more slim, should I be running/walking on the treadmill more? I do own an elliptical, but I noticed that for the last 2 weeks that I go on it 4-5 times a week for nearly an hour and 10-15 mins, I have been gaining what looks like more muscle in my thighs and legs. I don't want muscle, my goal is to just look more slim, not muscular. Treadmill or elliptical?

  • excuse me am trying to buy an elliptical for home can u please recomend any please!

  • @wackypissed87 Haha that's awesome, I'm so glad it worked for you too! I have also used the diet solution that I found in by the site WeightLossAction.Info, and I could never asked for more! A lot of fats gone in a matter weeks.

  • @chessdude67 Yes, I still use my elliptical almost daily. I've lost 70 pounds which is more than my goal. I started running this summer and planned to run a half marathon in January. I thought it would take me months to slowly build up to running 13.1 miles. But, apparently, my elliptical has put me in better shape than I thought and I breezed to finishing my first half marathon after only a few weeks. And I still don't have any joint pains either. I can't explain that unless it's because the

  • i knew he was gonna BS around this. treadmill is better tho its harder

  • @TitWarlord It's different between people. As a tall and heavy man i can not do the tread mill for longer than 15 mins. The knee pains get too me and i have to go slower. Personally me i have better results on the elliptical and burn more calories that way. Now when i drop to my target weight i will train my body on the treadmill just not at the moment.

  • I really work my ass off on the treadmill. I put 15 incline (Max) and 6 speed then i run for about 5 mins and rest for a min or so then go right back to it. It has been working out great.

  • Alright there! Have you ever tried - fast abs magic (google it)? Ive heard some incredible things about it and my brother in law got really defined 6 pack abs and lost a ton of weight with it.

  • Love your Body!

  • BURPEES!!! do 20 and tell me you arent sucking it in lol

  • I dont think its necessarily which is best, most who go for the elliptical go due to leg problems. The key is using one with preset workout programs. If left up to me, i'd just workout till i dont feel like working out anymore which would be maybe 5 minute..lol....but, when i got my elliptical i made a promise that any time i get on it i WILL finish the program, no ifs ands or buts. 5 years later, i have never broken that promise.

  • I've never used an eliptical but I hear they are good for being able to engage the upper body more (especially compared to the bike). Lack of impact compared to a treadmill has to be a good thing.

  • What about manual treadmills? Are they just as good as regular motorized ones? Also is walking on a treadmill (with incline) good for weight loss?

  • elliptical is way better, you may burn more on the treadmill however the pain and possible injury you get with constantly using the treadmill doesnt not out weigh the extra calories burned.

  • I have a very slight case of CP, affecting mainly my right leg. I walk with a limp, and also my right foot uncontrollable shifts outward to the right, and not straight out like my left foot. Because of this I distribute my body weight differently, and it leads to callouses and often blistering if I run too hard and long. Also, because my right foot shifts to the right, elipitcal machines are akward. For me, It's fast walk on steep incline, and stationary & recumbent cycle.

  • I'll make it simple

If you are young (no joint pain?) CHOOSE THE TREADMILL

If you are old and fragile (joint pain) ELLIPTICAL

  • @JustHere1444 I do both, often on the same day!

  • i find the stairsteper to be the best at the gym, im completly drenched after 20 mins on it, and my bum and legs are on fire, when i get off it my legs like wiggle around then after 30 mins of that i do the elliptical cuz the tredmill i find harder to do cuz of the force u apply when u run it hurts the legs just after 5 mins and i have to stop but with the other to cardio options i can go long with out the pain lol, but over all they are all great if u wanna lose weight : )

  • @IPWNBXRmash

wow why would you stair step then use the elliptical you must have legs like a giant. I would pass out

  • @lavvy2585 no pain no gain, Arnold's words of wisdom :)

  • @IPWNBXRmash that's some 70's stuff really outdated.

  • All your videos are so inspiring.I am mentally ready to lose weight.Thank you so much Steve.

  • @shandaboll My pleasure. Glad to help.

  • @BodyPerformanceTV steve i read in a article by covert baily that you should exercise more gentle and longer when doing cardio and let your body adapt, but go anaerobic sometimes in your workout but i dont get it like what i mean is that going anarobic too many times your body won't adapt to it i thought the more you go anarobic in cardio the more better shape you will be in for cardio, your cardiovasculor shape will improve more could you clear this up for me please?

  • I recently started working out, doing cardio 30-45 minutes at least 5 times a week (moderate exercise and weight lifting every day). I've found that on the elliptical, I can go faster for a much longer period of time than on the treadmill (main reason for treadmill slow down is I have bad arches, and my feet kill after 10 minutes of jogging). I work up a sweat faster, and work harder for longer - so the elliptical is my friend.

  • it looks weird going fast on the elliptical

  • I went 2 minutes first time I got on a elliptical. Last week i went 50 minutes and 800 calories. But i was sore for a few days after. I will keep it to 30-35 minutes with moderate difficulty. for the next month. The treadmill is to boring and hard on my knees(one has a total knee joint replacement)

  • I need to lose 30 pounds more. The elliptical is awesome!

  • love your mawmie!

  • yeah both machines are great i used them every day plus some heavy bag and some swimming i really want a six pack

  • I just started using the elliptical last week. My goal is to lose 25 lbs.

  • I love my elliptical because it's completely painless (aside from some temporary numbness in the soles of my feet after a couple of hours) and I can burn fat for hours at a time. I completely ignore the calculated calories burned or distances travelled since they appear to be entirely bogus and they are really irrelevant. If I get my heart rate up and burn for a long time, I know I've done well. I've lost 50 lbs in the last 9 months and am nearing my goal of 65. Just do it!

  • @vivaldirules That awesome, keep up the good work!

  • @vivaldirules Do you still love your elliptical? Congrats on the weight loss. I'm thinking about buying one for my home. Please let me know if you have one at home and did you have any problems with it.

I'm sick of paying gym memberships. Thanks for your time.

    Tim

  • @vivaldirules Elliptical is for girls, I weighted 236 , im currently at 192 doing treadmill ,, 5 minute walk, 15 minute jog , and 40 minures incline walk to feel those hamstrings burning since I feel like thats where our body LOVES storing fat . cheers .

  • @StraightFlexed Don't say stupid stuff. not all rules apply to people. I can see ur an idiot Steve knows what he's talking about u dumb ass. People overweight shouldn't run on treadmills, just walk. Also seniors prefer elliptical for low impact on articulations. Think b4 u open ur mouth.

  • I'd have to say the elliptical is better. Ive been doing it 6 times a week for 30 minutes. It works out your calves and quads really well. I can feel the burn when im working out. Plus the elliptical is alot easier on your joints compared to the pounding of a treadmill. So i'd have to say elliptical all the way

  • I feel the weight loss watching your videos

  • I have asthma and a bad back. For 22 this is HORRIBLE. I live downtown and go for walks often, and recently started ellipticals again. I think they are good, this doesnt ruin my loving ellipticals. Seriously... This machine kicks my butt

  • When i was five i was using the treadmill and my mom's 2nd out of 12th boyfriend told me to get off and he hit it the wrong way so he turned it on max speed and i got 2nd and 3rd degree burns all over my body....

  • Elliptical is bullshit...at least the ones in my gym are. I find running on a treadmill way more difficult then using the ellip, plus the ellipitcal i used says I'm burning way more calories than I really am....I know my body and how hard it's working and the elliptical is giving me false hope.....(at least this one is)

  • @KennedyCorey You're absolutely right!

  • @BodyPerformanceTV Sr. thank you for your videos. Just to let people know i just start training 6 weeks ago. From 224 lbs. to 203 lbs. just watching the videos and learning. My goal is 185 to 190 lbs. And by the way,i am using the treadmill for one hour a day,6 days a week ( like a maniac) and some weight training.Thank you again!!! GOD Bless!!!

  • @KennedyCorey I would agree with you but I have 3 pins and 2 screws in my ankle! And I wish everyday I could get on the treadmill. If you can take the high impact then yes the treadmill is waaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy better for you. But if you need a low impact work out the Elliptical is the next best thing.

  • @reallyboardstiff yeah maybe i was on a bad one or something...i gave a friend in killer shape and he says there really tough ...either way good to know, casue one day I may need to switch to something easier on the body as well

    thanks

  • @KennedyCorey What type of elliptical is it then?

I'm thinking of buying one and I DON'T want to buy one that gives 'false hopes'!

  • i have a question,

my high school football season is over, and i want to get very fast and strong. Ive been kind of chubby and i'm sick of not being a slow and weak lineman. how can i lose weight and gain LOTS of muscle during this off season?

  • @TheTaurmillio Run, Lift, Box, jump, climb, push, pull. Ect.

  • LMAO lollygagging

  • Nice info TKS

  • Interesting. I tried an elliptical for the first time today. Damn near kicked my ass. I think I'm going to take it slow with that machine and supplement it with swimming as long as I can (I'm in FL so that might be for another month or so), until I get used to that machine and have to do cardio indoors, when it's a bit too chilly for swimming in an outdoor pool.

  • Quick Question

I've been training on the elliptical, weights, and doing some walking since January, i'm about 5lbs (down from 163lb to 132/133lb, took me 4yrs to get down to this weight) from my goal... but I can't get rid of the fat on my upper thighs and my belly.. I did pilates, step, zumba for 4 months as well, how can I get rid of it and keep it gone ?

  • @earthlover04 1. Determine how many calories you're eating each day. 2 No cheating. 3. MO MORE Zumba or Pilates. They are a waste of time. WALKING & JOGGING ARE BEST. Either on a treadmill or outside. If you WALK on a treadmill incline it and don't hold on. 4. Be CONSISTENT with cardio and eating.

  • quick question

is it okay to do cardio before a workout to get warmed up would that help with the weight loss with resistance training

  • @abegetsbuckwild Cardio anytime will burn calories. Cardio before lifting will not cause more fat burning during lifting. I like lifting first and then doing cardio.

  • @DrugReaper i agree

  • i started interval training on the treadmill 3 months ago to flatten my pot belly. i've lost fat everywhere on my body but my belly. it just sticks there no matter what. and my precious butt has disappeared. i have no control over what parts of my body lose fat

  • Comment removed

  • cool

  • the elliptical is great and i love it but i also love my knees and i want to "have" knee when i am will me 60+ so i ll steak to the treadmill and bike

  • Um ellipticals are easier on the joints and knees because its a non impact exercise. get ur stuff straight.

  • @SoloDoL0 some one told me that the elliptical is way worse that the threadmill on the knees

  • Elliptical are defiantly better for the knees. Your making one continuous fluid motion. On a treadmill you slam your feet onto the machine as if your running. Well every time you do that a small trauma is induced to your knees.

  • I just got one of these last week, I need to loose 20lbs...( I'm 5'2" and 155lbs)

30 minutes??? Low reps??? Who are you kidding, this thing is kicking my fat ass..I cant stay on it for longer than 1 minute.

Please tell me it will get better.

  • @spellaho Start off slow. 5 minutes at a time. No incline and slow speed.

  • @BodyPerformanceTV

I do start off slow, everything is great, I feel good, it's easy,I can do 10 minutes, no sweat, no problems, no huffing & puffing, no numbness in the thigh area, knees feel good...Then BAM!! All hell breaks loose.

I cant even continue without a rest, or slumping forward like a crash dummy, or regain the feelings in my thighs...Lmao, think thats bad? it gets worse, I look down at the timer, and it says less than a minute...I'm seriously out of shape..Incline is Resistance?

  • @spellaho Yes the ET kicks ass, which is why I don't understand the guy's mealy mouth non - anwer. Everyone in cardiac rehab staff knows the ET is very challenging and are very careful who they let on.

It does get easier. Partly because you get better at pacing yourself -- at first, it sorta runs away with you, seems hard to control, because your weight is "falling" for half the revolution. You catch on to that.

  • this guys great. I LUV THE ELLIPTICAL

  • i have an elliptical trainer.. my weight is about 90 kilos and my height is 5'8. how many times a week should i use my elliptical trainer?

i want to ask another, is wearing sauna suit while on elliptical trainer gives more effect in losing weight?

  • @pinaykimchi The more you use it and the longer you use it the more weight you will lose. No, sauna suits don't help with weight loss.

  • I really enjoy ur videos...My question is I'm 51 n I wonder if its too late for me to get lean....Is being older a down fall?

  • @myanjels No, it is not. It's NEVER TOO late. I would suggest two things. 1. Order my audio weight loss CD for $9.00 at GreatFatLossPill. com and 2. Listen to my weight loss radio show. • Steve, how about squats? Squats seem to feature the three points you mentioned. Not barbell squats, just bodyweight squats.

  • any cardio that gets your heart rate up and going and is challenging is efficient

  • @Alive4Metal That, a few other of your other comments and conclusions aren't quite accurate.

  • @Alive4Metal That, and a few other of your other comments and conclusions aren't quite accurate.

  • steve, i have an old knee injury, i used to love running i got the best results from it now i only use the elliptical and it does seem like its working slower than the running. if i really intensify my elliptical settings such as resistance level and switching from incline to decline during my time on the machine, can i expect more results? or should i just try to go for jogs? i can tolerate short jogs.

  • @BAULMOVEMENT I would suggest short jobs on the street and walking on the treadmill inclined, and not just at 1 or 2! :O) The incline offer less impact than running but enough resistance so you're burning more calories than ellipitcal.

  • Steve - appreciate the vids...but why are you sitting at a boring old desk in all of these? Don't get the backdrop...at least put these videos into context and show some exercise equipment (or do some shoulder presses with that monitor behind you!). Otherwise great stuff! Thank you

  • LOL! Thanks. I wish I had a good gym to film at and demonstrate all the knowledge I know about exercise. Unfortunately, it's hard to control sound lighting, content, etc. in a gym without bothering others. That's why I created the free exercise audio exercise files on my website.

  • I have been useing the Elliptical for a month and I love it ,started out only 10 mins on it then went to the treadmill cause it hurt so bad lol. after that doing this for bout a week then I just stayed on the Elliptical a month later I have lost 27 pds and I do it 4 an hour a day burn bout 450 to 500 cal. per 30 mins Is that prettyed good?? And I was 310 pds when I started out now I'm 283

  • :O omg thas awesum i just joined a local gym liek almsot 2monhts ago........i do dancing classes n stuff.btu to losse weight i wanan do the elimptical machien.ive done it b4 but its so boring to be ther for 1hr lol.....so i decided to go for classes..but now i read ur post n i wanan star doing this......so did u change anythign on teh way u eat .....what else do u do beside teh machien.......... i tend to

  • I sure wish I could use the treadmill. Shin splints pretty well ruined it for me.

  • i don't know but every time i go to the gym and in the middle of my running on a treadmill i start to get cramps on my side of my ribs. How do i prevent cramps from happening?

  • i use to have the same problem when i started working out about couple yrs ago....i did lot of research on it and the best way i found to prevent dis from happening was when u r running...u have to make sure u are breathing properly....big inhale thru the nose and then exhale thru the mouth...do dis as u r running, it shud help cuz it helped me. and if it still doesnt help...slow down and breathe....breathe hard, in nd out..in and out give it a couple of mins and u ll feel better. Hope dis helps

  • gom tha happens to me too...........and i have to stop to catch my breath....

  • I am recovering from an injury and am having difficulty using the treadmill (problems with impact on knees). However, I just started using the elliptical for the first time and enjoy it. I am pushing myself very hard and no impact on my knees! It tells me that after 30 min, I am burning over 350 calories (weigh 210). Is this accurate? I am using very light resistance, but am pushing hard! Thank you.

  • treadmill is way more effective than elliptical

  • Yes it is!!! I agree.

  • what if u do the same 30 mins on treadmill and 30 mins on Eliptical, which is better....

ur video doesnt answer the question man, it says things we already know..

    plz be more specific

  • hey Steve, i love your videos, they are so usefully. But i have to know. 30 min on the treadmill vs. 30 min on the elliptical. which one is more effective

  • Depends on resistance, incline, speed, etc. but I think treadmill is much better.

  • Thanks for the insight. I wasn't sure if I was loosing out the elliptical. Its appreciated.

  • Hi Steve, folks, for the first time I did an incline workout on treadmill y'day at the gym and today the physio tells me i shouldn't be doing it as it can harm my back or knees? I used to weigh 212.5 lbs, i weigh 184.7 when I last checked. started working out 4 months back. so why did he advise me to not do incline workouts? I do cardio 3 times/week, i cross train with 5 different machines in each cardio session with treadmill, elliptical, arm ergo, rower & bike.20, 15, 5, 5 & 10 mins each.

  • Becaue he doesn't know any better!

  • thanks steve

  • YW!

  • Steve,

  • I have a question. I injured my knee about 7 years ago and I never got surgery. I fell into a hole and landed on my right leg completely straight and tore the ligaments in my knee. I don't the the proper names for them. Anyways I can not run, jog, or even slightly jump on my knee without it blowing out and injuring it again. My question is will an elliptical help me to lose weight because I can't run and get proper cardio. Also when I get on a elliptical it makes my knee feel loose and unstable.

  • Time to get an MRI first!

  • steve you really know your stuff. good videos man and you respond to people. keep up yhe good work

  • Thank you!

  • lolalabella,...serious? That's phenomenal! That's called " being consistant with your effort." Good job. You're right, no more words needed...other then KEEP GOING STRONG!

  • Oh well, i just want to tell you that i was weighing 185 lbs in oct 2007,and started the elliptical 5 days a week(still doing it) and now i weight 125 lbs!!!! no more words.

  • NICE JOB!!! Keep up the great work! ~Steve

  • @lolalabella

    for how long 30-40 mins?

  • @vishaal143

Never mind,i got bored, actually i used to do it for 60 mins, now i do 30 minutes on the ellipticla,30 on the treadmill and 20 or 15 mins on the spinning bike, plus weight lifting ,its another level now.....=)

  • @lolalabella1

thanks for the reply. it was my first time on the elliptical last night and it feels great. i actually felt like this machine is doing its job. not that i hate the tredmill, its just boring. haha, but yeah, i think imma do the elliptical for about 2 months or so untill i get bored and move on to ab workouts and benching.

  • @lolalabella how long were you on the elliptical for?

  • @lolalabella

how many times a week? and for how long. im only doing 45mins 3 times a week..any tips?

  • @lolalabella how long do you stay on the elliptical?

  • @lolalabella Did it help tone your arms? or did you include weight bearing exercise too? I feel the elliptical tones the legs but doesn't have much effect on the arms.

  • I don't have much weight to lose its all in my stomach I wanna lost a couple inches will the treadmill work say 30 minutes a day I dunno someone tell me

  • Yes, that would help.

  • ..and do it consistanly like 3 days a week and with vigor, but not too hard and you will improve your cardiovascular system and burn 300-400 calories per workout. I would do it for like 35-45 minutes a workout 3 times a week. Pick up the speed now and again and then slow it down some then speed up again. On a scale of 1-10, keep the workout at about 6-7 in intensity generally. If you need to burn any extra calories, then on some other day do some easy walking or "SLIGHTLY" cut your food calories.

  • If your legs are moving constantly thoughout and your using your hips continuesly as well, you're doing good cardio and thereby burning PLENTY of calories. Keep it at a reasonably hard intensity....but not TOO hard. It should be brisk, and tire you out some, but not too much. Your muscles have to be fully restend by the next day. If you go too hard, they will not be fully recuperated at your next workout. That's NOT a good thing. Your heartrate will take care of itself. Do the right cardio...

  • Myfavgeets...let me know if I'm getting to far ahead on things. Also..do not forget, what you're doing right now is giving you VERY good results. You're not losing weight too fast..(that can be a danger). It sounds like you're doing it just right. The VOLUME approach like I say is just brining the intensity down some so you don't tire yourself out too much and your body recuperates in time for the next days workout. With Volume, you do cardio 3 times a week at hard or somewhat hard intensity.

  • HIIT is a very intense type of cardio. You push through all "Zones" and push the outer edge of both your aerobic and anaerobic energy systems. It's done with a warm-up, followed by a set of intense intervals. Hard,...then easy...the HARD,...then easy,..then HARD and so on. This is now recognized as the most effective type of cardio for fat loss. The other way to train your cardio is by taking a VOLUME approach. You do cardio somewhat hard, but stretch it out over several workouts,...maybe 3.

  • I know that you are presently doing circuit training,.and that's fine. Sometime in the future you'll find that it will be time to adjust to more sophisticated and specific strength training. But for starting,..circuit is very good. Now I'm going to say something that's going to kind of shock things a bit, but here it is: There really is NO specific heartrate ZONE for fat burning. At one time most of the fitness world believed there was. The two types of cardio training today are VOLUME and HIIT.

  • no matter what the machine tells you, it's just an estimate. THE ONLY thing you can REALLY rely on to tell you if you are really creating a proper daily caloric deficit through exercise OR diet, is the scale and waist measurement. IF they are trending downward at about 1 lb. per week AND the waist measurement is trending down slowly, you are doing the proper training and diet for fat loss. The numbers you gave me 212 to 197 lb. since AUG 21 tell me that you are executing your training PERFECTLY!!

  • I understand about the street vendors and the density issue in urban areas. I'll BET India is congested!!! That makes sense. Then the treadmill will be better. I get a little bored on treadmills, but if you can have music that you like on your headphone, that will help. You can also increase the incline which will make it harder. Then you can walk for a shorter period of time and burn the same amount of calories. Knowing the excat amount of calories burned is really not important because.....

  • Myfavg, O.K.,.you sound like you're doing VERY well actually. You have been training for about 80 days (since Aug 21, 2009) and have lost 15 lbs. CONGRADULATIONS!! That's a VERY good number. IF, you haven't been doing any lifting before this, then you can bet that the circuit training has added some muscle weight..against the fat weight lost. You may have increased your lean muscle mass by 1, 2 or even 3 lbs...WHILE losing fat weight. If that's the case then you may have actually lost 17lbs.

  • The effect of the walking on the diet plus the actual calories burned, in 45 days will probably knock off close to 3 lbs of fat, and you'll notice it on your waist big time. It's a low stress, low impact, underrated, purely aerobic (with the presence of oxygen), calorie and fat burning activity. As much as I like lifting/HIIT cardio and low calorie healthy eating, I don't think I could stay truly lean without it. When you see how lean 4 months of walking will get you, you'll come to love it!

  • Walk on natural ground, hills etc., you'll burn more calories then if you walk on flat concrete. Flat concrete walking is still very good. Take a waist measurement. THEN, (keeping everything else the same) walk for 1 hour every other day for the next 6 weeks. Not speed walking, just a normal walk. Enjoy yourself, put on your favorite music and hit a place that you love to walk. Take in the scenery. The more you walk,..the more you'll want to walk. After 6 weeks, take another waist measurement.

  • You are right! but I live in India, you find street vendors occupying the sidewalks and because of bumpy roads & heavy vehicular traffic here in most of the states it is very unsafe to walk on roads. So walking on treadmill is a better option for me.

  • Walking is good for the digestive system. It helps speed the repair of muscles. I'm a HEAVY weight training athlete. It's not too taxing on the muscles or joints so you can do it without tiring your muscles further. You get oxygen to the brain and it's good way to do some good thinking."Never trust any idea you came up with sitting down." Your body has a natural appetite control mechanism; there's nothing like a long walk to get it reset. You'll more likely desire less calories if you walk often.

  • Myfavgeets, if you weight more..say 200 lbs, you'll burn a few more calories per hour of walking then someone who weighs 125 lbs let say. I believe that I burn around 90 calories per mile. I walk about 2.5 -3.0 miles per hour. So I figure I burn around 250 calories per hour of walking. I walk about 4-6 hours per week. SO, that's about 1000-1200 calories burned per week, maybe a few more. Probably about 5000 calories per month; 60,000 calories per year or more, which = over 17 lbs of fat!

  • Hi! brushfour! thank you for responding to my comment to you. Sorry for the delay. I weigh 197 lbs now, I used to weigh 212 lbs when I joined the gym (Aug 21,2009). I do cardiovascular exercises three time per week. the rest three days go to circuit training. on an average I burn 420 calories in a one hour cardio session which is 1 hour. so 1200+ calories per week. I have no clue how much I burn doing circuit training. Also I cannot be sure if those 420 calories I burn are the actual calories

  • @brushfour, continued... Because the readout in cardio machines can be innaccurate too, right? I do not have a heart rate monitor, so I cannot measure the exact number of calories and if my pulse reaches my target heart zone which is 60-85 per cent of 196.

  • I am a 23 year old male and I love the elliptical. It's much easier on the knees, and you go at your own pace as opposed to being at the mercy of your set speed on the treadmill. The analytical side of me loves it, because you can really fine tune your variables. You set the duration, resistance, and you can watch your heart rate and speed to know exactly how you're doing. I can get on an elliptical and do an hour at 75%MHR and keep my heart rate stable whereas running it's jumping all over.

  • Your target Heart rate is 197, so you do 75 % of 197? do you maintain this heart rate at 197 for the entire hour?. and do you manually take your pulse or using a heart rate monitor or rely on the reading on the elliptical machine? which can be quite misleading?

  • I'm a BIG believer in outdoor cardio! I can walk on a treadmill for 20 minutes before I get antsy. I can walk or hike outdoors for HOURS and never get tired of the challenge and the scenery. The Great Outdoors is a Great way to get lean!

  • Hi! brushfour. I burn around 120-130 calories in 20 mins briskwalking + light jogging on the treadmill. how many calories do you burn in the same time? Same question to everyone else, how much calories do you burn in 20 mins on treadmill?

  • Don't forget you can do cardio outdoors. Get a training partner or join a group to help motivate you and stop any "cheating".

Listen to music to help you focus and motivate yourself.

Oh take up rollerskiing too, that kills!

  • i want to listen to this over and over its such a good inspiration!

i want to add that you should use your HIPS in your cardio! it MATTERS because its very hard to use the hips . Do danceing. dancing is awesome.

  • I do Cardio on the treadmill, elliptical, rower, arm ergometer & stationary bike, does doing cardio on these machine make use of my HIPS are you suggested?

  • i didnt understand the last part of your comment.

  • I have a question for those who know.

I have an injury and its bothering eme when i walk on it..

what can i do for the body to recover it ? its been like this for 2 years...

its a muscle but i dont know why it has not gotten stronger or repared

  • Put some cotten or cloth over it,always works for me when am injured :)

  • lol are you kabalist or something?

  • No,just it gives a softer landing for your foot.

  • oh now i understand what you ment.

the problem for me is not impact its rather movement.

a result of dong 600 rope jumps pr day for many years ago, i found out counting calories doing this is not a good idea.. everyone should just do what their body responds to .

I almost injured my knee too.

do not repeat something too much period , you shouldt care what the "numbers" say.

  • I' ve been working out on a precor eliptical for 4 weeks, lost 13 pounds so far. crossramp 10, resistance 10 and I'm pretty overweight. starting weight 257,now 243. great for my joints.

  • i just started workout too ....what is your diet like

  • i just started using the ellipitical in my weekly workouts; however my toes go numb which is very bothersome...anyone else have this problem and if so, any suggestions to avoid...thanks!

  • try to stand up straighter. i had that problem for a little while but i noticed i was leaning forward a lot while i was doin it
