Notice the conspicuous absence of GRAFFITI on the cars. There are a couple little tags, but nothing like the crazy tagging like happens in the lower 48.
@SweatyWalrus If you are talking about the 4th unit on the train with the long hood towrads the train it is like that for a reason, when they arrive at Healy it gets set out and is used as DP on the rear of the train after it is loaded and heads back south, so this consist is set up correctly.
@mrlrrconductor They don't use DP on the way back south. The DP consist is set up after it passes through Anchorage again and goes down to Seward. Those are just lazy hostlers not wanting to wye a motor, so the Healy extra board gets to do it.
@MainlineProductions1 Seriously, people. There's a siding the train pulls into and after they're done loading the fucking thing they cut away and run around the cars on the main. They have to wye that consist to go south.
The railroad in the summer months probably averages one train an hour or so both north and southbound traffic. In the winter maybe one every 4 hours at best on average.
Although right now none are traveling much due to one of my unit's C-17's crashed right on the tracks and took them out at Elmendorf AFB.
BNSF hoppers? Those are ARR hoppers all the way, besides the leased TNM with yellow ends and tuscan colored AOK hoppers. Pause it when it gets to the trinity hoppers you will see ARR reporting marks and logo.
@stevekatkus The original poster is referring to the graffiti on the car at 1:00. Caught me by surprise too. I'm used to seeing graffiti on every car in the consist.
I think FEC should redo their paint scheme. Our state came up with the colors first in that style after the BN SD-70M similar paint scheme. FEC just looks like a copy cat. Need someting more original.
Alaska RR copied the BN 70MAC scheme, sure glad palin isnt VP,the FEC is okay..Alaska RR could have alot better paint schemes. They should get some SD70ACe`s or ES44ACs up there.
Railroad crossing on Hallea Lane/Lucus Road. These particular locomotives seem to have some awfully loud airhorns in comparison to older ones, too. You can hear them from miles away. I bet the one who shot the video was thinking about covering his or her ears when that train was approaching.
I used to live in Fairbanks, and boy do I miss seeing the ARR Love the SD70MACs, if you could you should try to get a video of the 4 new ones coming and post it, that would be awesome! Great video.
Finally someone in Alaska posting up some decent videos. I love it. I'm in Anchorage, AK, but I don't have a video camera. Need to get one and get out there.
Anything really, I like the Coal trains, the gravel trains that run twice a day here in the summer, the Denali Star with over 15 passenger cars is kind of cool, and the long freight trains from Whittier and Seward aren't too bad either. Do you work for the railroad?
nope, but my dad does. I worked for princess tours on the train, and was trained as an Alaska Railroad tour guide. I model 1:8 scale live steam trains and HO scale stuff.

That is the fastest coal drag I have ever seen. Wow

I shot a northbound coal train and the Denali star at this same exact crossing! Nice shot! Vids of this crossing are on my youtube account.

reesebwhitehead 9 months ago
That wasn't even a real train. Only 74 cars.
A real train has at least 88 cars on it with a caboose

@SweatyWalrus on real trains it doesn't matter if the last unit in the lashup is fasing the same way the train is going

You're not stupid - trains are large and can be loud.
As a little kid, it would be quite natural to be scared of such an immense object going so fast and making such noise!
