get over it, buy what ur pocket can afford, and what u prefer ( not to mention that intel has motherboards more expensive )
funny how people go bustin a nut over water cooling and over clocking.
no one seems to remember that a sample dual core, much less a quad core plain with no shit done to it can run everything available now and for the next few years. there is just no reason to do all this when most people cant get all the power out of their system components with no bottle necks anywhere.
none of this means shit if your laggin online. why not work on getting me the 1 Gb my ethernet can do as min standard
makes me wonder why people do up and race cars too when my Golf is quite powerful enough to get me to work and back and will serve me wquite well for the next 10 years. all that fuss with big engines is for nothing!
like all sports (if you can even call this a sport) it is pointless but fun. so deal with it :-)
Umm.. who in their right mind installs thermal goop in circles!?!?! That virtually guarantees a void in the center ( and other voids considering the multiple circles... ).
A small blob in the center and high pressure is all you need for most any TIM.
i got a athlon 2 x 2 planning to overclock it soon - om hoping to hit 4 gig with it ( stock is 3 gig ) and also running a corsair 50 water cooler with dual fans in a push pull - think 4 gig could be reached???? lol
@Daren2007 crysis wasn't just smooth it was wicked fast. their test run was crazy fast when they got to the liquid nitrogen. On air it took about a minute, on LN2 it was 20 seconds long
that's known as overclocking with liquid nitrogen to boost the performance. I spray H2O humidity in the cooling system for H2O to evaporate. Short circuit. NO. Is my idea good? or ?
What a skill, pouring liquid nitrogen on a container to cool cpus at negative temps , having plenty of chips to choose from , all the hardware you can trash, easy overclocking ?
I'm not impressed but now try the same on an i7, and gaze at the scores ...
@YaBaDji They did. Well not "them" specifically, but there was a liquid nitrogen test on the i7's. It capped at somewhere around 5.85. Just a technical limitation, though. I'm sure Intel just never expected a chip to be pushed that high.
@YaBaDji I was there (you can actually see me in the background of this video) and each team only got 4 cpus each. If they trashed the hardware they were basically done. Also I dare you to try the liquid nitrogen on an i7. they still have a cold bug while these do not.
I'm getting a little more with 200 x 20 and I'm not impressed with that either. I'm using the CoolerMaster Hyper 512 btw. My idle temp is 34C and full load @ 46C
There should be at least a 4.2-4.4 oC left on the chip. I'm bummed
Stock 3.2 GHZ, I'm idling at 23C
My chip is the B55 with the unlocked cores making it a 955 3.2
I used the same cooler to get my 2.13 GHZ Intel 6400 to 3.8 to be continued

I just love AMD stuff they are so much better than intel's in fact my cousin's laptop costed him $1200 while mines costed a measly $520 and my AMD powered laptop puts his core i5 laptop to shame preforming the exact same tasks my AMD Athlon II processor runs cooler and faster when i was gaming with him the other day i got a frame rate of 50fps average while his laptop was lagging and could hardly even play the game.
Wow... My Phenom II X4 965 black Edition runs stable on 3.85Ghz... also on air. My Cpu Cooler is an EkL Alpenföhn Gross Clockner. These Guys are just Crazy....
so my PH II X4 955 work with 4.0GHZ so its a awesome speed! i will upload a GTA4 Bench wehn i have my 5850 now with my Geforce 9800GT 512mb it runs on MID with ~50 FPS
well, one day that liquid nitrogen is gonna run out of cool and still heat up,......nothing lasts forever.....btw a desktop with liquid nitrogen is gonna cost ALOT!!!! :)
O.o I've got a Phenom II 720.. may not be a quad core but it handles pretty good when doing an oc. I am at (2.8)3.2~ on stock cooler. It doesn't get near too hot for stability. I will get a new cooler for my CPU and try some high clock rates.
No, well at least not in the Phenoms and Athlons but with the Phenoms 2 they are closer to the Intel's Core 2 Quad 2.5 and up but not as close to the new core i7. The Phenom 2 are more over clock able than the core i7's but they put out a lot of heat.

i have a phenom II x3 720 @ 3.0 with stock cooler and temps dont get over 45 ever at loading and in winter it was even less and the phenom II x4 955 was just released here in Egypt yesterday ...
i use both intel , amd platforms but i will say that amds are a lot smoother :D intel is just supported by more lol doesn't mean there better but the Deneb and the other series are strong contenders to the the newer intel chips broke the oc crown baby :d im using a Deneb 940 at 4 GHz on air and i love it to pieces :D
k10nx3sli wifi mobo :d 4 gigs of ddr2 1066 ay 1300 mhz at 666 16 timings lol geforce 9600gt ssc edition ,l
all for 500 buck :D and it isnt to bad no lag dalaran
I have got my phenom 2 940 at 3.9ghz air with 1.5v, idle temp is 34'c and highest load is about 53'c using Prime95 stress test for 5 hours! I am using arctic silver 5, and Xigmatek HDT heatsink (the 92mm one)
Imagine how good it would be with the 120mm :D maybe 4ghz?!
I am using the Foxconn a7da-s. fantastic motherboard! and i must correct myself, it is actually at 3.8ghz @1.47 volts and with the Sunbeam core contact freezer, idle is about 38C and load max is about 55C. my temps were lower than correct, so i lowered the OC a bit to be safer.
They should also have mentioned that the CPUs used in this test were ALL technology demonstrators, and none of them will have the exactly same performance if compared to end-user equipment.
It's likely they would have cherry picked chips that overclock well for this event, but 3rd parties are getting the exact same results with off the shelf chips :)
i love amd when im watching blue ray movies on my comp theres no lag when im playing crysis no lag when im playing games and watching bluray movies on my intel comp with a q9450 it lags like hell so screw intel amd all the way
love AMD , ever since the day the first athlon destroyed the p3 and make intel reps cry.
..alot of benchmark fanboys came along and started buying intel , "cause it has higher mhz and 3dmark scores bro!"... ill rather go back to my old AMD K5 500mhz (which i still have) than use ANY intel. AMD FTW!
As cool as i7 is, I will likely save 300 to 400 bucks going AMD Phenom II with a liquid cooling setup. Bad timing for Intel. AMD get my $ this time around. 2 Years from now it might be different. Who knows.
get a job and shut the fuck up! jessus, i mean come on how spoiled can you be? do you realize how much like a 12 year old you sound? my god! YOU GOT PHENOM FOR FREE< BE HAPPY ASS HOLE!
mojuicycandyhido what r u telling we r using a microwave for a computer i think your just a pissed off intel fan coz u cant get your intel up 3.9ghz on air lmao
The i7 965 costs that much, the i7 920 that overclocks to 4.2ghz cost about the same as the AMD Phenom II but its still a little bit more expensive ($50-75 more).
If the i7 920 was $700 more then I would go for the AMD no questions asked. :P
The 940 and 965 are a waste of money since the 920 can perform just as well as them for about $300-350 unless you plan to go overkill with a 965.
Both are pretty much just as fast so it does not bother me that much with speed.
What are the problems for each of these? I am mainly choosing the i7 for being more reliable according to a lot of people while still being a very fast CPU.
I was originally going to buy a Phenom II for my custom computer that I will be making untill everyone that I know told me to get an i7 for different reasons.
-uses AM2+ socket, so you can get good motherboards for cheaper
-pretty much the same performance of i7
Explanation:
If you purchase the i7 you have to purchase a socket 1366 motherboard (expensive) and DDR3 RAM (also expensive). With that money you save on buying a Phenom II you can spend your money on stuff that can be transferred to a new rig.
Aside of the extra cost, which CPU is more reliable and stable? I wan't this thing to last as long as possible and I have been getting a lot of help from my buddies with what to get.
Ok, so you get this straight I have been with Intel for years and switched to AMD just for the Phenom II. The Core i7 is having some bugs, so at time the Q9xxx series quads are out-performing it. I definitely would suggest getting the Phenom II, to me it's the difference between day and night. If you wanted to have some more juice you could buy a 940 Phenom II.
The air coolers I would suggest are the; Cooler Master V8, Xigmatek SDT1283, or the Tuniq Tower 120. Except for the Cooler Master V8, the Xigmatek and Tuniq coolers will need 2 fans to operate the best, Scythe S-Flexes do a good job. Personally, I would suggest making a liquid cooling system or buying a decent kit, no Thermaltake junk, so you can cool your CPU and north and south bridges for overclocking.
Amd and intel are meessing with your minds gamers and buyers! those high power envelope processors and videocards induce changes in your nevercells without your consent!

What Mobo do you use, I cant get over 3.6 stable but then again Im not using amd chipset either.

I may call it unfair and unreal...
Raonisk 2 years ago
It's likely they would have cherry picked chips that overclock well for this event, but 3rd parties are getting the exact same results with off the shelf chips :)

AMD dominates the lower and medium maket.

b1iuzw39 2 years ago 2
That is trust man!
But almost all people buy intel just because they say "more ghz".
But after they work more slow.... lol and more expensive.
If some day intel gets some better (i don't mean ghz) and less expensive, then yes.
But the rest AMD forever.
A greeting.

Hell yeah!
love AMD , ever since the day the first athlon destroyed the p3 and make intel reps cry.
..alot of benchmark fanboys came along and started buying intel , "cause it has higher mhz and 3dmark scores bro!"... ill rather go back to my old AMD K5 500mhz (which i still have) than use ANY intel. AMD FTW!

As cool as i7 is, I will likely save 300 to 400 bucks going AMD Phenom II with a liquid cooling setup. Bad timing for Intel. AMD get my $ this time around. 2 Years from now it might be different. Who knows.

mojuicycandyhido what r u telling we r using a microwave for a computer i think your just a pissed off intel fan coz u cant get your intel up 3.9ghz on air lmao
crazyhills427 3 years ago
The i7 920 can go up to 4.2ghz on air with its default heatsink, I don't care about brands and I am a fan of neither.
Just adding information. :P
ChrisCamTheMan 3 years ago
ChrisCamTheMan, The Phenom II currently costs $780 less then the Core i7. AMD beats Intel with regards to power/cost. Check Tigerdirect for pricing.
Just adding information :P
enigma067 3 years ago
The i7 965 costs that much, the i7 920 that overclocks to 4.2ghz cost about the same as the AMD Phenom II but its still a little bit more expensive ($50-75 more).
If the i7 920 was $700 more then I would go for the AMD no questions asked. :P
The 940 and 965 are a waste of money since the 920 can perform just as well as them for about $300-350 unless you plan to go overkill with a 965.
ChrisCamTheMan 3 years ago
$60, but the Phenom II has less problems, OC'd it kills the i7, at 3.2 GHz it owns a stock 920, which is impressive.
firestormcomputers 3 years ago
Both are pretty much just as fast so it does not bother me that much with speed.
What are the problems for each of these? I am mainly choosing the i7 for being more reliable according to a lot of people while still being a very fast CPU.
I was originally going to buy a Phenom II for my custom computer that I will be making untill everyone that I know told me to get an i7 for different reasons.
ChrisCamTheMan 3 years ago
Phenom II for these reasons:
-cheaper
-high overclock-ability
-no need for expensive DDR3
-uses AM2+ socket, so you can get good motherboards for cheaper
-pretty much the same performance of i7
Explanation:
If you purchase the i7 you have to purchase a socket 1366 motherboard (expensive) and DDR3 RAM (also expensive). With that money you save on buying a Phenom II you can spend your money on stuff that can be transferred to a new rig.
firestormcomputers 3 years ago 3
Spend that extra money on:
Graphics card
Large Hard Drives
Plenty of RAM
Good case/CPU cooler/Water cooling
Good PSU
I think that is enough reason to buy the Phenom II instead of a costly i7 system.
firestormcomputers 3 years ago
Aside of the extra cost, which CPU is more reliable and stable? I wan't this thing to last as long as possible and I have been getting a lot of help from my buddies with what to get.
$2000 Budget (Canadian)
ChrisCamTheMan 3 years ago
Ok, so you get this straight I have been with Intel for years and switched to AMD just for the Phenom II. The Core i7 is having some bugs, so at time the Q9xxx series quads are out-performing it. I definitely would suggest getting the Phenom II, to me it's the difference between day and night. If you wanted to have some more juice you could buy a 940 Phenom II.
firestormcomputers 3 years ago
dude you seem to know alot about this Phenom II!
my question: what air cooler do i need to get to 3.9ghz?!
wollerauman 3 years ago
The air coolers I would suggest are the; Cooler Master V8, Xigmatek SDT1283, or the Tuniq Tower 120. Except for the Cooler Master V8, the Xigmatek and Tuniq coolers will need 2 fans to operate the best, Scythe S-Flexes do a good job. Personally, I would suggest making a liquid cooling system or buying a decent kit, no Thermaltake junk, so you can cool your CPU and north and south bridges for overclocking.
firestormcomputers 3 years ago
thanks mate! Do you think an "Orochi - scythe"
would also do it, it seems to have great cooling performances on other cpus?
Thanks!
