Muzzle crowning tool kit for military rifles, by Dave Manson

I have that exact machinist's tool box. I got it from my Grandpa. He worked for Boeing during the war and then work for consolidated/convair/general dynamics after the war as a machinist. I got it from him after he passed away.

i am not experianced in any way with gunsmithing but im curious about why all these angles are vital to accuracy and how it effects the projectiles trojectory , spin and angle when leaving the muzzle of a weapon ?

can someone explain this please ?

@TheJWalshVlog I understand where you are coming from. i am not a gunsmith either, but the way i understand it is roughly as follows.. The crown on the rifle affects the bullet even AFTER it has left the barrel. Obviously not for very far out of the barrel, but it is to direct the gases leaving the barrel in a certain way to not create weird vacuums or high pressure gases which would push the bullet off center in one way or another.. Hopefully that makes sense..

@TheJWalshVlog A poorly cut/uneven crown can allow gas to escape around one side of the bullet before the other which can push the bullets inconsistently, or destabilize them all together, and really hurt accuracy.

If you crown a threaded barrel...it won't change the timing on the threads?

@clap5 If you mean muzzle brake orientation, it depends if muzzle brake, when installed, rests against the muzzle end of the barrel or the shoulder behing the thread. If it uses muzzle end, orientation may be affected, but you can always remove enough material from the muzzle to get the same timining (orientation) for the muzzle brake.

while a very nice kit, I use the Brownells crowning tool with a cordless drill and cheap pilots. works perfectly, and I have done 12 this month already (not including the ones in the past). it's not nearly as pretty of a tool, but the performance is spot on, and and very affordable allowing for a quick return on investment. had this kit been in my price range I would have recommended it to my 12k members due to the replaceable carbides.

what a great idea!! it remminds of a Lee Loader in away.Do you have a pilot for a 7x57 mauser and a 9mm luger .There can you buy this great product.
