  • wow, this is amazing,

i play banjo a bit myself and it's so cool to see the roots.

the top string seems to be like the drone string on the new world banjo. so cool. also, it's interesting how high up on the neck he is playing, rather than playing over the skin.

  • You might want to look at some YouTube clips of modern 5-string clawhammer players, BiggyJake. Many of them (us) play over the neck as well.

  • Wonderful! What a fantastic rhythm and playing. It just moves you instantaneously. Great post! If you have some more, please post them. Thank you.

  • Listen to that drone...I love it. This is certainly the closest thing I have heard to the modern banjo.

  • am very proud of my mother's music tradition

  • Looking for this kind of music longtime! In my womens village cab rousse one man used to play this akonting very nice!, but he died. He lived in France, and no records to find in the web, only 1 cassete I have.

Now I`m lucky! When did Mr. Ekona play this Tune?

Greetings from Germany To Sweden and Afrika!

  • As a clawhammer banjo player myself, this is flat wonderful! Good to see our roots!

  • This strikes me as just kind of annoying. Call me crazy, but I guess I need some kind of discernible melody or something.

  • That would the difference between Western Music and Non-Western Art Music. It's just because you're not used to it.

  • I wish I knew what he was saying. It's sounds cool, though. It's funny, that's the way I play my Ukulele, and any other stringed instrument I happen to get my hands on. I must be channeling my roots ^_^ lol
