If you cannot nail a Replacements cover any better than John Doe has (and that bar, ladies and jellyspoons, is set somewhere higher than Tibet, having viewed this and "I Will Dare") YOU HAVE NO BUSINESS MAKING THE ATTEMPT AND YOU AND YOUR ENTIRE BLOODLINE WILL BE EXECUTED ON SITE.
Not too fast!! This is John's version; well played and excellently sung. I am a fan and never knew he sang this good. Great song written by a genius and performed by another one. We are spoiled!
I prefer the one I played with a tone deaf and drunk drummer on lead vocals. Not that I'm putting John Doe down or anything, but that dude had soul haha.
Well, I do love the song. However, there were things about the arrangements and production on the "Tim" album that didn't work for me. In general, I prefer live versions of this song. The Mats' own version on "Inconcerated" is great. And I think Doe nails it here.
Lobo says "Wheatfields of St. Paul" in "Me and You and a Dog Named Boo"..I know where he means too..that's where they had a homegrown ditch-weed bust. thanks for a classic here by Doe. my buddy has an autographed diner placemat from him and Exene.
love him.

This has to be hands down the best cover versions I've heard. John Doe's voice suits this perfectly.

Heard John sing this one back at McCabe's Guitar Shop in Santa Monica in the mid 1990s. Gorgeous. John feels this song to the bones. Beautiful.

SHITE SONG

Not bad but too fast. It really distracts from the emotion and depressing feel of the song.

@Danklin24 I agree this version is too fast. This isn't an anthem, but a spoken word piece.

ya, but it's still a great cover. I mean, it's John Doe... Doe and Westerberg have got to be like... Gods or something. No, they ARE Gods....

Again... much, much thanks! Clearly John was a fan. Now I want to see Paul doing "Worldwide Brotherhood" as payback. Bet he'd nail it, too!!
GOD BLESS YOU FOR POSTING THIS!!
