The answer may be yes and no. All the languages you've mentioned are similar in that they have many common words and use the feminine masculine & neutral tense. Portuguese is similar to Spanish, and most Portuguese can easily understand Spanish and French. Although, it may not be true the other way around. Most Spanish & French aren't able to understand Portuguese. Many Portuguese find it easy to learn Italian after a few months immersion, don't know if same rule applies to italian
