  • Can I do this with the Nikon D2x using Nikon SB-400 and SB-600. Thanks.

  • thanks that was simple and bliss, no extra complicated crap

  • hi there, is it the same set up if i will use a sb 900 and d90? and how about can i use sb900 as a commander to other flash unit? cheers.

  • how about the YONGNUO 467?

do you have any idea about the wireless thing?

    please advise.

    thanks@

    francis

  • @cmacgmdoc It should work the same way, just make sure to put the YONGNUO on wireless mode.

  • You got my girlfriend’s remote flash to work! Thanks bro!

  • @Platewarp Glad I could help! Make sure to share this video with your friends!

  • @Platewarp OMG, you rock. I went on three websites and two vids and no one said that the flash has to be up. Thank you so much and much success on your channel. I feel empowered!!!! I will put this vid on my blog. It's super helpful.

  • why is it that when I set it so that the on board flash isnt on it still fires ?

  • @benandtinagilbert The flash fires to trigger the speed light remotely. It does not affect the exposure of the image because it is a pre flash, your eyes can not tell though.

  • THAT was brilliant, saved me alot of time on my SB-700 :) Thx thx thx

  • Hola! I am so sad, I was looking for these instructions for my Nikon D5000, but I saw It has not the repeating flash and commander mode options :( , I did not know that when I bought it two years ago. Well it is time to change of Nikon model. Thanks for your help. Greetings from Mexico.

  • Just so you all know...I have the D90 and it works flawlessly also with the Nikon sb26, one of the older work horses!!

  • can you do it on the Nikon D80?

  • Thank you! I watched 3-4 videos before finding this one and NONE of them made sense or worked. this was perfect :)

  • omg your the best haha thumbs up!!!!!

  • How do i do this with a sb700 lol

  • @itsArjie Move the on switch to remote and then use the menu in the flash and camera to sync them up.

    Hope that helps.

    Cheers, Ben

  • I thought the flashes were to be used for the mounting spot on top of the d90? So when and where are the flashes necessary to mount on the camera instead of having it like you in the video everywhere except on top it?

  • thanks a lot.

  • When i shoot with flash (sb700) the maximum shutter speed is 200. But i need more. Why is just 200???

    Somebody help me!!!

  • @gyulab1 That's how fast the camera can communicate with the flash via CLS. For a faster speed, use it on camera, or buy a wireless trigger system (I have a review of one on my channel).

  • @gyulab1 mostly likely your cameras fastest flash sync speed is 1/200s

  • Thanks Pal - this is a clip that can motivate one to buy the flash lamp! ;-) Cool!

  • thanks bud works gr8

  • gah! i have the sb 700 and i can't get it to work!

  • @Kelnosha Move the dial on the SB700 to "remote" instead of "on".

  • Great job and explanation.....I have passed this video on

  • thx for the video mate. I just bought the d90 and the sb 700 and you gave me a simple explanation on how to make the most of them.

  • @DVaderlar Glad I could help. Make great use out of off camera flash!

Mind sharing this video with a few friends?

    Thanks!

    -Ben

  • Thank you :)

  • nice video...can you please tell me how i can turn off the built in flash? i just want my wireless flash for creative lighting...thanks

  • @chemroom If the built in flash is on the two dashes ( - - ) then it will pre flash and not affect your photo.

    -Ben

  • Thank you so much for the lessons. Amira, Yemen

  • nice vid !

  • what's the furthest away you can be before this stops working?

  • @xtos2001 About 200 feet or so.

  • great job!!!

  • Id say the only down fall to this is if youre shooting action sports (bmx) You cant shoot over 200 for your shutter speed. I love this function but speed kills lol

  • Good Tutorial!! Can you give me a good setting for shooting in a club? Nikon D90 with a 17-50.. F2.8 Tamron lens and a SB700 Flash. Thank you :)

  • @Ajbangkok By good setting do you mean shutter speed and aperture?

  • Great tutorial! Thank you very much!

  • @1966Danie Glad it helped! Feel free to share this video with anyone you'd like!

  • awesome tutorial you did a fine job explaining =) very helpful.

  • @kosaltaing Glad I could help.

  • nice and clear. nice vid man. Helps me get past all the jargon. Do you know if you had all 6 slave flashes going if they would work in TTL? I'm kind of confused how this works. For instance, if I had a flash on the left and right of the subject as well as behind the subject; would they all automatically fire the same power or would they adjust by distance from the subject? Sounds like a new video for you? ha. Thanks again

  • @jspinn22 Glad you liked it!

If you had multiple flashes they would all have different power depending on the distance, TTL works for up to 6 flashes in each group so you could have 12 TTL flashes set up. If I had that many flashes I would definitely make a new video for you.

Mind sharing this video with a few friends?

  • Great Tutorial!! i have my d90 anf my sb600 for like year now but this is the only time k new that it can do that thanks! :)

  • u can also get a SG-3IR filter, using this will not affect the exposure at all. only lets the ir light needed to fire ur off camera flash. bout 15 bucks..

  • so does your built in flash have to be open and fireing to use the wireless flash?

  • @AMMProd If you have the built in flash set to "- -" Then the flash will be open but will not affect the pictures. The flash has to be open to send a signal to the "slave" flash.

  • Does ur popup effect the pic

  • @skippy1239 It does NOT effect the pic if it is on the dashes.

  • @skippy1239 Funny, I have the built in set to "- -" and it's still firing as well?

  • @M5Beast whats ur question?

  • @M5Beast

It fires a pre-flash when set to '--'. You don't notice that it's a pre-flash because of the speed but when you use something like slow sync the pre-flash on the built-in flash will go much earlier than the off-camera flash. I did some tests myself in close quarters with the built-in flash set to 'TTL' or '--' and you really can notice the difference between the shots, the flash doesn't appear in the shots at '--'.

  • Now I will share on facebook but can your d90 send signals when the popup is off?

  • @skippy1239 popup up is up but off when its on the dashes.

  • I have spent hours online searching sites, forums, etc, and looking at other youtube tutorials trying to figure this out and your video and directions are the most straightforward and comprehensible of all I have seen. Thank you so much!

  • @bluerox I am glad I could help. Would you mind helping out others by sharing this video on your facebook or twitter? Would you like a tutorial on anything else?

  • i love it

  • @tutiz1 Mind sharing this video on facebook or twitter?

  • @shouldigetit

    maybe..

    .... .. . .. . . .

  • great tutorial, but im wondering if there is anyway for me to use my flash offcamera without the popup flash going off as well, the pop up flash is really washing out everything

  • @nickteezy408 Put the flash on the two dashes ( - - ) then the flash will go off before the shutter and trigger the flash.

Mind sharing on facebook or twitter?

  • does the camera works in wireless with the metz 48 AF-1?

  • @cnbergamo I have never used the metz 48 AF-1 so I am not sure but you could always try or use google.

  • Thank you!!!! You made this comprehensive and very straightforward and i now have my wireless flash working. Thank you so much! keep going, you're good at this!

  • @camdenuploads Thank you for the positive comment, it's what keeps me making this videos.

    Glad I could help :)

Mind helping someone else by sharing this video via email/facebook/twitter?

  • can i use two SB-600? cuz i know most people will have one sb-600 and one sb-800 or 900

  • @fralainedon15 You can use 2 sb-600 or mixes of flashes. You can control up to 6 flashes with this method.

  • thanks you made it so easy!

  • @consentida97 Your Welcome.

    Thank you for watching.

Would you be kind enough to pass this video around via facebook, email, etc. ?

It would mean a lot to me.

    Cheers, Ben

  • In commander mode, set the built-in flash to "---". The built-in flash will fire though but the purpose is to communicate with the slave flash. The flash won't affect the shot's exposure.

  • does this work with the nikon d7000?

  • @rakim242 Yes!

  • hey guy....you are the best....you explained the use of the COMMANDER

on the D90 used with the SB-600...great, great tutorial...I paused the video

at every step and wrote everything down...I own a D90 and the SB-600

I set up the camera then the SB-600...and boom it all worked...

thank you for the excellent tutorial...

    Willie....

  • @wjmatos733 Thank you for the positive feedback :) It really means a lot. I'm glad I could help. Be amazing and subscribe or share this video with someone?

    Cheers!

  • how much does that camera cost?, and does it have movie mode and burst mode on it?

  • what if you don't want to fire your built in flash and you just want only the sb600 to fire,is it possible?

  • @dexjapitan I have tried but it has not worked. Nikon says that it is possible though.

  • What lenses do u have?

  • @WildBoy454 I have a 50mm F/1.8

    18-55vr
