and again, what was the issue with these mortgages? it wasn't that these mortgages were given, it was that a lot of the processors and banks were unscrupulous, with lowballing introductory interest rates, then variable interest rates that ballooned payments after a couple of years and the loan originators and processors lying on apps to make people qualify who wouldn't have otherwise under the regulations. that and flooding the market with the mortgages bundled as securities.

Read Thomas Sowell's "The Housing Boom and Bust" and if you want to learn about what was and what has changed and what is being attempted to be changed, read Mark Levin's "Liberty and Tyranny". It will make you think in a whole new light even though your views stay the same. Very good reads.

and again, what was the issue with these mortgages? it wasn't that these mortgages were given, it was that a lot of the processors and banks were unscrupulous, with lowballing introductory interest rates, then variable interest rates that ballooned payments after a couple of years and the loan originators and processors lying on apps to make people qualify who wouldn't have otherwise under the regulations. that and flooding the market with the mortgages bundled as securities.

Its not as simple because democrats say anything not to take any blame or give honest reasons why they want to take EVERYTHING over to make America a Banana Republic. They still try to blame Bush for the way they TOOK equity in banks, GM, and Chrysler. Funniest part is they did nothing to fix the car companies! Every car GM makes will lose $2000. "It's more complicated" should lend time for real DEBATE but nooo its a complicated lie to take over the country and that is EXACTLY what it is.

the auto companies were collapsing under Bush, and it was his admin that gave them a bailout. the equity and bankruptcy reorganization was the only way to save them. I don't think obama is trying to "fix" them by trying to influence how they run, because he has stated he has no interest in running the auto industry. what would you propose be done? let them fail? you complain that government interferes, then you complain they don't interfere enough and run the co!

OBAMA gave them more money then they went bankrupt anyway. Now he took actual ownership equity in the company. They did not fix anything. GM and Crysler are the 2 fastest bankrupties ever. Little to no debate on how to restructure or manage. Where have I ever said they should run the company? You are not making any sense LOL. Bankrupt = fail and they could have and should have done it by the book.

Bankruptcy allows businesses to restructure as well. It's not just to go out of business.
I think the bankruptcies went so fast because there was a sense of urgency about getting these huge employers back in the game as soon as possible.

It could have sold in pieces just like anyother business. From the business news I watched about GM they still have not fixxed the issue that they still lose 2 grand for every car they will sell. Based on anything you have seen has the "rush" to do anything worked? NO. The dems are talking about a SECOND stimulus because being the experts that they are "misread the economy" while already calling it the worst since the depression.

a few dems were talking 2nd stimulus package and i think the idea has been squashed pretty quickly. a lot of $ from the first hasn't even been disbursed yet.
as far as the rush to do anything, GM said they were going to collapse, and have since gone into bankruptcy to restructure, so i think that yeah, they would have collapsed had they not received $. the restructure is allowing them to streamline and downsize in a less traumatic way than just collapsing. it will take a while before (cont)

(cont) we know if it was worth it. all told, it's been 80 billion dollars so far. I remember when chrysler got bailed out in the 80's early 90's it was for 1.5 billion. i don't think GM is worth 80 billion, now or ever, so it was mostly to keep tens of thousands from losing their jobs, which a lot will end up losing anyway. GM has announced as part of its restructuring that it's cutting about 4000 white collar jobs.

(cont) is also why obama's big on health care now. in addiiton to tone deaf and incompetent management in general, and just being too big with too many products, the cost of paying for their employees pensions is a killer. they have to shell out something like 4 billion a year for retiree benefits before they even begin to make money, let alone profit.
