  • This is one of my all-time favorite gospel songs.

  • @431pvuf Not that I know of. Government for you.

  • On and on and on it goes; doesn't he know when to stop?

  • @billybraquemard1 i know, right? give us a break, j.c. 2000 years and still dominating the world.

  • I would really love to hear Streets of London again NOT the Ralph Mctell one but the one Roy sand about the trades there used to be in London ".. On Highbury Hill a half back and on Primrose Hill a preacher..........."

  • @lysp08 You need to get hold of the LP, "That's Not The Way It's Got To Be".

  • My favourite song of all time is his "the last chance" I use it everything from inspiration to calming down.

  • @SofaEaterLovesYou Somebody really needs to make a video of that one. I'd use pictures of late-era Rod Steiger to depict "Meir", and probably someone like Jack Gilford to represent "Sam"..

  • To paraphrase SocailistRae:

I don't think the intent of this song is to set the history straight or reteach it

but to point out the danger of blindly following and accepting a leader's direction without question.

History has shown us again and again the results of such a course of action, non-action that is.

  • @Henkin: Roy turned down the OBE he was offered on account of the government's foreign policy to Palestine.

  • @Echrick did that solve the problem?

  • Roy Bailey got on his knees and kissed the queen's arse, accepting the pathetic prize she offered to him.

    Judas indeed.

  • Roy Bailey and Leon Rosselson, Frankie Armstrong, so many good musicians and singers as their collaborators and their comments never loose their edge - and maybe they'll be listened to again when the current government start to cut things.

  • @TonyFDordogne Yes, I hope so, too ... especially The World Turned Upside Down.

  • Jesus!

  • anyone know the chords for this?

  • @luckywood im abit tone deaf but i just had had a tinkle along with it when i read your msg, and it seems to me to be all around G, D, C chords, i didnt carry on all way thru. its something to work with if you want

  • Wow... I had this song on a bootleg about twenty years ago; never knew what it was called or who sung it. I just recalled the chorus suddenly and typed it into google, and here it is. Thanks for posting this.

  • Does anyone have the chords for this? I can't seem to find them anywhere. If not I will just work them out for myself. As an aside, there is a version by Dick Gaughan on his website which is just accompanied by acoustic guitar if anyone is interested.

  • Great stuff... I haven't heard this for years and like others, heard it first sung by Dick Gaughan. Go Roy and Leon! Now I am on the hunt for other tunes of yours I haven't heard for 20 odd years:))

  • @sanfranceal6

Why don't you write in understandable English?

  • @prosperoj Sanfranceal6 sees no contradiction in the phrases "God loves you" and "God will punish children for their parents' sins - unintelligible gibberish comes naturally.

I make no judgements as to whether there is an all-loving god (well, I do, but they're not relevant to my point) but to think that such a god would do something as patently unjust as to punish the children for the sins of the parents is just ridiculous.

Oh, great, now a simple post has turned into a rant...

  • Learned this song from the Scottish singer Dick Gaughan. Like this version too!

  • @daveodon Agreed but Dick's was better

  • Outstanding song

  • It sounds like Leon to me!

  • Who said the Lord had all the best tunes?

  • @cedricthecentaur No one. English evangelical clergyman Rowland Hill is supposed to have said " why should the devil have all the best tunes". He tried to increase the quality of church music by publishing and writing hymns.

  • Power to the people indeed!

  • My daddy used to sing this when I was little - Roy and Leon are legends =]

  • spot on

  • The vocal on this is actually performed by Leon's longtime musical collaborator Roy Bailey.

  • Yeah, my mistake, now rectified. Cheers!

  • It's all good, as they say. Natural assumption that it would've been Leon singing the song, as it was on one of Leon's albums.

  • @barcelona36 Thanks for correcting that. Sorry for the two year delay in responding. And thanks for posting this.
