what the price for this thing....and how hard is it to get?....the 303 is fucking impossible to get atm....its selling for like 2,000+ dollars.....INSANE!....but worth it in a way...
@JavaSpitLava you can buy an x0xb0x kit at some site, but I can't remember which one. I've seen already built ones go up on ebay for 400$-600$, they are way more easier to find than a TB-303
I don't actually own a X0x just yet so this information is based on what I have gathered.
Your going to want the standard TB303 layout, Filter, Resonance etc..., everything the original TB303 had, but the main addition that many x0xs tend to have is an increase of range on the features. It's usually a Filter, Env Mod, Resonance and Accent increase-end which gives you a greater range of editing that the 303 didn't have. Also you want MIDI fitted with In Out and Thru
@BedroomFromDublin11 You can usually get X0Xs for around 200 to 500 pounds depending on if they are pre-built, what modificatios they have and what design they are. They can be bought from the online manufactures shop (Mode Machines usually have some) or more likely, eBay for around the same price, usually pre-built. ;)
I actually prefer the way this sounds compared to the original TB-303, in terms of the 'classic acid' sounds. Fuck the puritan idiots, this sounds far more mature and serious than the original 303, even unmodded.

@PettinatoDj bass guitars don't make acid house and acid techno..... i wish people would buy more fucking x0xb0x's and 303's but i don't go around complaining about it... oh wait i just did.
i like the demo. perhaps my self build digital synth is also capable of making such sounds. but i will see when i finished the enlcosure of my second synth :-))
x0xb0x kits are essentially no longer made. But it's actually not very hard to amass all the parts yourself from multiple suppliers. I did it, and it really wasn't too bad. Was definitely worth doing.
If you are interested, get yourselves onto the x0xb0x forums at adafruit. All the info is there.
I dont think AdaFruits is selling kits anymore. You can look on Ebay for kits. Or buy a complete on that someone build. But ppl are sick amounts of money for them :S Ive seen X0xb0x's that dont even work and they ask 350euros for it!! INSANE.
..what i'm saying is that *some* of the parts that were used for the TB-303 are no longer available, sadly
but overall, the x0xb0x is the closest thing
stuff like Future Retro 777 (i might have spelled it wrong) just sound different, yeah they scream, they slide, but there are some specific stuff that i hear the TB-303 doing, that i haven't heard anything else do it like that (only the x0xb0x)
Which one has wider filter range, dirtier, over all best acid bassline sounding between: x0xb0x, acidlab bassline 2, or FutureRetro R2? (or maybe there are any other good ones?)
IMO x0xb0x sounds best overall. I have an acidlab and it sounds so dirty/angry/hard/german, I like it but I would rather have a x0xb0x. Future Retro I don't know, though in all the demos I've seen it has sounded too polite and soft
From 1.29 the sound in the pattern mutates to the slide function isn't it? How come? I do not see you touching the slide button nor the pattern thingy. I bought my x0xb0x yesterday so am not too much advanced with it.
If you made one, then you likely know that the synth circuitry in the x0xb0x is identical to to the Roland TB303. So if the x0xb0x sounds different, then so does one TB 303 to another TB 303. Which is true, because it is quite common for original 303's to sound different to each other.
Having said that, a x0xb0x will start to stray more from the original 303 sound if modified (i believe this example has the res boost mod?), or using parts that differ in specification to the original.
Yes it's great and I love the midi etc, but there is something more edgy, dirty and real about the 303, not just the name.. Yes I know that circuitry and transistors etc of the x0xb0x resembles tb303, but its still not even the same size pcb or same old 1980 parts.. But but... today 2009 I prefere x0xb0x over the 303 in my livesetups.. ;)
Simply put an absolutely lovely machine! I never regretted it that I built two of these (and it was my first big diy soldering project ever), even though it was a large sum of money I had to get together. Mine are self-sourced, though.
x0x, Acidlab is even more rare then a x0x. Acidlab is about 500euro. You get a x0x for that money to. I like the sound of a x0x better. Check for yourself on YT. But there arent much Bassline2 vids on YT, thats says enough ;)
I just copped one of these from ebay. Looking forward to receiving it. I def prefer my 303 to be clean and slurrrpy. I love distortion, but not on my 303 :P
Im not keen on the black plastic but i know from experience using my mc 303 that the bigger knobs make it so much easier than using the wee knobs that you get on the 303 and 606. sounds nice. keep them comming
...or nerves to wait for years just to but it. I am building one soon with PCBs I`m making in local PCB company. Until than enjoying these x0x videos.
AWESOME NOISE!!!!! \o/ ;-)

holly crap..

h4x0riz3d 2 years ago
Its not emulation, it's the real thing because they sourced all the original parts so it's the same as the original 303 for all intents and purposes.
mace1337 2 years ago 27
i think not _exactly_
AFAIK the sequencer misses some features (that are maybe stupid, but it misses them)
i got some audio comparison of TB-303 vs x0xb0x
well, the most obvious thing is that at full resonance, the TB-303 has more feedback (screams more) i guess this is due to the different parts
the next thing is the knob response..
h4x0riz3d 2 years ago

Resonance boost switch
Increase ENV Mod range
Increase Accent range
Increase filter low-end
Power switch on IO panel
booster69 4 years ago
is that it? just those mods?
I think I hear reverb.
and are you running into a distortion box?
sounds like an EH tube zipper around 3:30... cool!

>> is that it? just those mods?

so, what effects are you running the x0x into? (reverb... any dist box?)
chilledbroccoli 4 years ago
>>is that it? just those mods?
nevermind, that came out wrong....
what i meant to ask was are you running the x0x into any effects (i.e. i hear reverb... are you using a dist box too? which one)
chilledbroccoli 4 years ago
bah, typing isn't my day.. :(
chilledbroccoli 4 years ago
The signal has a small amount of reverb from my xenyx1002fx mixer. The distortion was made by maxing out the trim pot on the mixer channel.
booster69 4 years ago
The sound at the 3:30 mark is using VCF overdrive and resonance boost.
Mixer/trim overdrive is from about 4:30 onwards.
booster69 4 years ago
@tonttu303 Please, can you explain how to to this mods, especially the increases in ENV mod and Accent?
In mine does´t affect too much sound.
Thanks.
