  • im so confused how du you get this machine????

  • doesn't that rust it??

  • Tarnished cymbals sound great!

  • lmao

  • that's cool is the circle like preprogrammed or something? this is the first time i've seen this kind of thing

  • waterjets scare the shit out of me

  • NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • how much did you pay for that ?Cause i cutted mine with a lathe for 45 euro

  • @MiddleFingersHigh i do them for 15 euro

  • I think he payed more to do this buying a new cymbal

  • @drummer790

    Wrong

  • @alwaysopen How do you know that?

  • @drummer790

How much is a new cymbal of any quality? $100 or more?

You could have this done for less than half that. It's a simple machine that cuts with water. I've seen them cut granite 3" thick.

  • @alwaysopen wait, how does this cut with water?

  • @dashingjavi it shoots water at the surface it is cutting, really really fast baically

  • @dashingjavi

    GOOGLE it.

  • Warning: Extreme Hillbillies Ahead

  • 0:28 <- the cutting starts

  • Now I want to hear it. That would be nice if it re-stamped it to a 15in crash.

  • This has the tech-nerd-electrician-drummer in me having a slight drum-PC-gasm. .. . .

  • Comment removed

  • that was honestly one of the coolest things ive ever seen, even though you ruined that cymbal.. you cut metal with water..

  • @dustyowl99 how did he ruin it it was cracked i machine cymbals all the time and they end up class

  • I found this difficult to wank to.

  • @SanctumStudios Really?.......I didn't..

  • @MrSilver9692 hahaha

  • great job ; )

  • chuck norris can do this with his finger nail

  • thats a way to save money

  • Wow, that's a clean cut.

  • there is a better way to do this. the cymbal is not gonna look as good but the sound is going to be more full.... this way as shown in this video decreases the sound on the cymbal. at first may sound good but after you cut it again and again is going to sound like a worthless piece of junk. I worked in a rehearsal studio where they had the cymbals cut like this.

but then I learned theres a better way when I started working in the modern drum shop in nyc.

  • @seffyr Pearl custom?!? If not, you're still a lucky bastard. Oh, and what's wrong with DW?

  • 0:48 waterjet- "hey get back asshole" hahaah

  • do i just call my local machine shop and ask for this special?

  • I'm more interested in the fact that he used water to cut through metal!

  • that's what you get for buying zildjian c:

  • resizing the cymbal could kill the sound of it, at least try to hammer it when u done :D

  • awesome

  • doees that work on old rock band drum pads? cuz i just feel like destroying mine.

  • Damn my cymbal cracked. Oh, wait, no problem. My dad is already starting up the waterjet machine in our backyard. -.-

  • uhh yeah i just hapen to have that sitting in my garage.

  • o my god...just drill the crack out!

  • MEN YOU ARE CRAZY!!!!!!!!!BUT ITS SO GOOD LOL

  • 1. Crack

    2. Resize

    3. Repeat

If you keep doing that you'll end up with a Zil-Bel XD

  • i would prefer laser

  • Considering that the cymbal is already cracked which absolutely ruins the sound, I really don't think that resizing is going to do too much damage.

  • this is sick dude generatrix doesn't know what they're talking.

  • that's what i like to call... a clean cut...

  • Oh yeah, I've got one of these machines in my backyard

  • I hear a lot of people say that you'll ruin the sound by re-sizing a cymbal like that. But it's not necessarily true. It WILL change the sound. Cutting out a notch will also change the sound. There are also certain tones that are somewhat noticeable especially when recording that can really do strange things with a notch cut out.

Both have their pros and cons.

  • take that to a super soaker fight.

  • I would do all kinds of wicked stuff to my cymbals if I had a water jet cuter

  • @gandja8889 i would do all kinds of wicked stuff period. if i had one of these machines i wouldnt get shit done lol

  • where is this machine at?

  • Your cymbal wil never sound the same dumb ass

  • damn almost every cymbal repair vid i see has to do with a zildjian a custom

  • Doesn't it make the cymbal rust?!

  • Awsome! Sadly Not everyone owns one of those fancy machines ;)

  • :( what does it sound like!?

thas what i wanted to see

  • So, you're saying I can do this with, I dunno, a water pic or a garden hose with an appropriate nozzle? :)

  • OK! Now, direct to the trash... =)

  • oh so stange that an A custom breaked ... very weird!

  • wait... so what size is/was this cymbal?

  • @matttylergoldbloom i think it was a 16" cymbal that after the cut was left with a 15" diameter.

  • Thats the newest torture machine for the lastest james bond movie

  • Say whaat

  • did you just cut that cymbal with water?!?! :o

  • @CREAMEGGOFDOOM Water jets scare me now O_o

  • @CREAMEGGOFDOOM hahah, what kind of sorcery is this

  • all you had to do was notch out the crack and it would have been fine...

but that thing is pretty cool

  • @wqsa8 Notching the crack out can make it worse in the long run.

  • The worst thing you can do to a cymbal, the sound is wrecked once you change diameter in relation to original shape

  • @generatrix999 I know that is the common believe but actually my drummer is digging it a lot, considering he saved $250, and using it as a crash ride, i can honestly say that it is still a "usable" cymbal. Remember these machines are very accurate and also it is a cold process that does not alter the overall structure and hardness of the metal

  • @generatrix999 I actually beg to differ. I'm using Zildjian Planet Z's at the moment. I originally bought the 4 piece set (Hats, Crash, Ride) but later decided I wanted a Crash/Ride too, so I bought the 3 piece set (Hats, Crash/Ride).

I was like "Oh, now I have two extra Hi-hats sitting around doing nothing..."

Guess what? Now I have a 14" Splash/Crash and a 10" Splash that I cut, and it sounds fantastic. Goes amazingly with the rest of my cymbals.

Cheap DIY full cymbal set FTW.

  • @Seffyr Your setup sounds terrible

  • @nouralewiwi Oh, trust me, it is! But it's a practice kit - so when I upgrade my cymbals to some A Customs I'll still have the same skill and know roughly what sounds to expect but it won't sound like I'm hitting glassy tin. =)

I have to say though, the 10" cut splash sounds amazing. Very glassy and cutting and doesn't have a very long sustain.

I also drilled 3 holes in my bottom hat. Sounds alot better. Better foot response, and eliminated the crappy hollow sound inherent in Planet Z hats.

  • @Seffyr You gonna put the A Customs on your DW?

  • @nouralewiwi DW? Either that stands for something completely different or I'm missing something here - but I play Pearl, not DW.

  • @Seffyr Twas a joke ;)

  • @generatrix999 tell that to Gavin Harrison ! He's fashioned some beautiful bell chimes by cutting down crash cymbals which are now a signature part of his sound. NEVER say never. Some of the worlds best innovations and discoveries come out of saying "what if it works?" rather than "that'll never work"

  • @drsteve0487 except if youre telling someone never to say never? 0_o

  • @mistermoshpit101 Ahh, yes. I guess the phrase was a bit of an 'own goal' . Doh !

  • @generatrix999 ERRRrrr bulkrap alert

  • @generatrix999 Maybe, But I think a lot of people would agree that once there is a crack in it its pretty much screwed anyways, so you have to cut or drill to make it last, I think this is a great video, and heck if you can keep it from breaking in half and still have like he said a "usable" cymbal then why not? Plus I mean he is cutting it with water which I find to be pretty dam cool.

  • @generatrix999 not true im afraid dude
