Saying that there is a right way and a wrong way to scream is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. Maybe saying there is a way to make it hurt less, but if you are afraid of the pain then you shouldn't be doing it in the first place.
lol all these people with their screaming instructions. all WRONG! both singing and screaming can destroy your voice. if you sing enough your vocal cords get tired, dry out, form callouses or tear. if you scream, your voice gets tired faster. if you scream like this it gets tired MUCH faster. the thing is you can still scream with damaged vocal cords, but try to sing with damaged vocal cords and it might be raspy, it will flip and it will be harder than if they weren't damaged.
@KrustytheKiller do you even know how to scream? There's two types of screaming, one using your vocals, or two using your diaphram. Vocal screams are most commonly found in metal genres whereas the other screams in hardcore genres. I was pointing my instructions to hardcore genres where it doens't harm your vocals at all. i've been screaming for years, and so have my friends, and their vocals have been completely fine. My choir voice is still in tact so your theory is wrong. Sorry to say.
@meacrazydrummer yeah i know how to scream, i've been doing it for years. ask any one who sings or screams what happens if they use their voice at full power for a long time without rest. it gets tired. thats obvious. when it gets tired its vulnerable to damage. almost all vocal techniques use your vocal cords. you cant make a sound with your diaphragm its just an air pump. hardcore vocals require more diaphragm pressure on the vocal cords which is why they tire faster. sorry to say :P
the proper technique to scream is to use your diaphram. And NEVER use your vocals. This will cause tearing, which is where you get 'Hurt like hell after a concert.' Basically what the scream is, is a loud wisper. Wisper the screaming parts, then try to make them louder. Then voila you got a painless scream. I would recommend drinking pop or orange juice to help your throat stay hydrated and your throat staying lubricated. If you cough after an attempt at screaming, YOUR DOING IT WRONG.
Depends on much air you put, he puts a shit load I dont put much air in mine making more of a crackle sound and, when I do put air in it it goes completely clear, personally I like the crackle better.
