Qrio got canceled because its impact was too great on some minds, especially the kids. For example, if its batteries ran out of power, then the kids thought the robot actually died and started crying.

That's probably the biggest reason why the Qrio program got canceled, since it being designed for the average consumer.

these were never available to the public. They NEVER went on sale! I read it on sony's official website. I have been a sony customer for years, and i am OUTRAGED that they discontinued the Aibo dog and the Qrio humanoid. I would killl for one of each. JUST ONE DAMNIT! We should start a petition and demand that sony starts their robotics team up again!

The robots are useful. I don't know about QRIO but the new AIBO sends live image from its robot to the PC. This can be used for home security. If some one comes in and robs your house, AIBO will look at the guy, record video and sends it to a PC or some place the robber cant find, and they can show the image to the police and catch them, maby not only Video but voice recordings. maby if AIBO don;t recognise the person it maight call the police it self.

QRIO was basically an exercise in AI for sony and they did damn well. At some of the tech demos, the reporters said that they saw the QRIO playing soccer and when it asked them to play with them they declined.

When they came back later to see what it could do, it would decline doing things for them. When they questioned the QRIO it said it was because they didnt play soccer with it. Later the reporters asked the lead AI programmer Masahiro Fujita if it was programmed to do that he was rather shocked because they never programmed it to do that. It just learned it on its own based on the people around it.
