Georg Friedrich Haas - Garth Knox - solo for viola d'amore

after seeing the premier of Haas' "chants oubliés" at the l.a. phil, i'm discovering a totally new way of listening to classical instruments. i agree with the previous comment that Haas is not just "jarring", he's reinventing sound. the trombones in previously mentioned piece were another example. too bad there is so little recorded, or actually, i've found zero!

Lovely music. I had never even heard of the viola d'amore. This must have taken forever to learn to play seeing as it's an unusual instrument played in unusual ways with a volume pedal to worry about to boot. Also, I like that Haas doesn't just stick to jarring sounds like so many other modernist composers.

Habe gestern mein erstes Werk von G.F.Haas gehört ("...." für Viola, Akkordeon und Kammeresemble 14`) Es hat mir wahnsinnig gut gefallen und ich musste gleich weiterstöbern.Dieses Stück hat mich auch fasziniert!Mich würde interessieren, wie sich das als Musiker anfühlt (bin zwar selbst auch Musikerin, aber hab mich bis jetzt wenig mit Neuer Musik beschäftigt) Übt man anders als bei klassischer Musik?
