Went there today, Sunday caught a couple above and below the trestle all browns between 5 and 14 inches and lost about a 19 inch rainbow, great day and alot of fish lost!
I was there today Sat = we caught a bunch below the trestle; there are plenty of nice fish there, water is low and clear. I used a light emerger which outfished the black stonefly. Good luck.
I normally fish below the tresle in the deep pools. Im going there this week and was wondering if you prefer below the trestle of around the parking near the top of gorge thanks! Due to fall stocking im not sure where to look for fish.
do you suggest using and indicator or not? I have caught a couple trout at the gorge but can never tell if im getting deep enough or can see the strikes with the indicator? thank you!
I don't always use an indicator but you have to keep a good eye on the fly line; when it stops or jerks upstream - raise the rod and set the hook. Sometimes it will be a rock and sometimes a fish. Sometimes, a really big fish !
this is where my dad takes me fly fishing here or eaither p quest im 13. i caught my first trout on my fly rod here my best spot to fish is kind of from when you come in from the front and walk down you see a big tree in the middle then about 2 feet from the bank i wade maybe about couple inches in theres a deep hole there tried ever fly finaly i put a streemer on and the baster goes after it :) happy fishing, try my spot its great
Below the trestle. Any deep hole holds those big ones. Got a report recently that large flies and streamers have been working good lately (Nov 2009). I've been trying to get back up there. I'm sure there are some giants around
Ever see any bears there just this past summer my cuz and I found tracks through Allamunchy on the Musky. I never fished the SBR but had buddies go bannanas over it I take it its worth a look
Never saw bears, just deer and turkey. It wouldn't surprise me if there were bears there. You should ck out the stream - been going there for 30 years and not much has changed. Good luck if you visit. I've had my best luck with black stoneflies and pale emergers.
umm im not sure ive ben fly fishing there since i was 11 ( now 13) ive only say deer grazig and turkeys and only one time a saw a fox track or other wise it was a dogs best time to fly there is the winter christmass day :)
yes - it was an unintentional snag. i didn't realize it until the fish came up. the fish was no doubt tired; wouldn't say it was near death but once revived he was fine. A fish like that must be released for another day.
I wasn't using an indicator just watching the line stop if a fish hit. I've never caught one quite that big on a dry but definitely lost a few that size that broke the tippet.
Caught an 18" brown there last week. I love that place

I always get skunked at the gorge. Did you catch that mammoth above or below the trestle lot?
