I asked about buying guns at a gun show from a vendor, they told me I had to be pre-approved (background check, etc.) before buying a gun, or I had to wait 30 days for the check to happen before my purchase could be shipped to me.
So thanks a lot, Mr. Flip-flopping RINO Juan McCain, and all others, for the propaganda.
Guns are like drugs, they come in through the black market and criminals will always obtain them. Silly GOVERNMENT>>>>Quit trying to screw the average American out his his or her rights.
Crooks buy on the street. Gun shows are crawling with ATF agents. Propaganda states that the guns at Columbine came from a gun show. This is true. Purchased by Kliebold and Harris? They were under 18 and unable to make the purchase. Most guns used in a crime have been obtained in an already illegal manner.
Because there is no loophole. If someone sell to a person from outside his/her state OR to someone who he/she suspects could not pass a check it is already illegal. Plus the fact remains few if any fire arms used in murders come from gun shows. From the latest FBI study "In contrast to media myth, none of the firearms in the study was obtained from gun shows." And street thugs who illegally carry guns are NOT affected by any current gun laws.
What the fuck does a gun show have to do with anything. What's next? The guvment tellin' me I can't sell my lawnmower to someone because they might take it home and run over their kids foot?
This is ridiculous, why would a criminal willing to threaten your life in order to rob you or take your car or even just murder... why would someone like that BUY a gun? Most crime is done by recidivists, these are people who have -already- broken into somebodies house or beat up a person. They're going to get guns by simply STEALING them. Like all these controls, this will only affect the law abiding not the criminals that idiots like this claim.
We did a sting at a gun show to see if we could purchase a firearm with a known crimmal ID and we were successful in purchasing the firearm. The dealer sold us a firearm with no paper work for an increased amount. The dealer was arrested and his license was revoked. There are some dealers that will go around the red tape.
people need to realize that tighter laws make it HARDER for criminals, mental patients to get guns.......it won't be like snatching a candy bar in a store...it will be more like obtaining medication without a prescription
You are right as well but it could make it more difficult for criminals. With more watchful eyes on the sale of guns, it would mean more lives saved and easier for the police to catch criminals in the act of trying to illegally obtain one. Also to clarify something in case you're wondering: I AM NOT a supporter of gun control. I just believe balances in gun laws get the best of both sides of keeping guns away from criminals but not honest citizens. Background checks everywhere could do that.
Restrictions are needed on all avenues where guns can be purchased. Gun stores, gun shows, ordering catalogs, and private sale all need to be covered. There has to be background checks for EVERY sale of ANY type of gun no matter how small or what weapon is sold. It doesn't take the honest citizens' guns, it just deters gun crime if you've done nothing wrong and have a clean mental and criminal background you've got nothing to worry about. Something has be done to lower the U.S. gun crime rates.
not only that but after the gun show is over and your background check is done the criminals will just car jack you or break into your house and end up with the gun anyway!! THEY ARE CRIMINALS!!! SO THEY DON"T CARE ABOUT THE LAW!!!
There is no loop hole. It's a private sale. That's what you get in a free market and in a Republic. Anything contrary to that is a step towards ending liberty.
Yeah but the private sale is very open. No background check, id check, etc. I definately believe in 2nd ammendment rights, but these gun show loopholes you can buy just about any gun you want and take it home...the sad thing is, these loopholes are getting airtime...encouraging criminals to go there....
The thing is, all gun dealers have to do background checks and go through the red tape, no matter where they are. Even at a gun show. Most people who sell guns at a gun show are registered dealers so they have to jump through the hoops. Only few are private sellers and even then most exercise common sense when selling their guns. Like I said before, there is no loop hole. It's called a free market. If you want freedom you may have to sacrifice some safety. Remember, safety is not freedom.
I see. I mean this thing should be monitored a bit more closely. I don't propose we shut down the gun shows completely or anything, just to ensure we have professional dealers who know what they are doing.

This is reasonable and necessary. It doesn't take guns from innocent people but helps deter gun crime. Without background checks criminals have a loophole around the safety laws of gun stores leading to further bloodshed. I've heard at gun shows where individuals hand over the money and carry the gun out. This has to stop because of high-powered weapons at gun shows. Imagine if the shooter and V-Tech had walked in with an AK-47. Create and enforce gun show background checks or that WILL happen.
Why is the NRA spending $40 million to complain about Obama's gun record? John McCain should get equal treatment.
In their survey of all 100 Senators, the pro-gun group Gun Owners of America gives McCain an "F minus" rating, describing him as an "outspoken anti-gun advocate who carries anti-gun legislation". Interestingly, Obama's F grade is one notch higher (that is, more pro-gun) than McCain's. Look up the article "John McCain is a Liberal Gun-Grabber" by Chuck Baldwin.
I'm a Republican for Obama. One reason is the ridiculous hypocrisy of John McCain. He doesn't care whether guns are legal or illegal, or if they were all taken away. ALL he cares about is winning the presidency, so any hypocrisy, and lie, will do.
"but the fact is I know some people who don't deserve a car much less a AR."
First of all, the comparison between guns and cars is specious. You admit as much in your last sentence when you say that the 2A is "one of our basic rights." There is no "right" to own a car; driving is a privilege.
Second, it has nothing to do with anyone "deserving" a gun. Your *kids* may or may not "deserve" a gun, if you're paying for it. But no one here is talking about giving them away. What we're talking about is the Constitutional RIGHT to own them (actually, to keep AND bear them).
Sell out! Mccain was supposed to be one of the good guys and he sold his soul to the liberals.. er... I mean the devil.

Well don't worry. This whole gun show "loop hole" thing has been blown out of proportion by the anti-gun crowd. You shouldn't worry about it.

There used to be a good Flash video online called "Everything You Need To Know About the 'Gun Show Loophole' In Under Two Minutes."
Haven't seen it in a while, but it won a few hearts and minds from some of those on the fence about the issue.
