@MeanieNene1 .....after the earthquake in 1989, they started gathering there for some unknown reason. THEY COME & GO AS THEY PLEASE. ..they are not held in captivity as in a zoo....my sister & young nephew came to SF in JULY 2008 mainly to see them, because he loves animals up close, but for some reason there wasnt any...when i visited a few months later, they were all back again

@pp63100 They migrate to an island close by every summer. It used to be that all of them migrated in the summer, but now there is some there year round. Still lots more in the winter.

@LiveLarger ......they probably just want to get away from all the loud tourist that visit during summer. So they head to Farralon Islands, which during the summer is white shark free.....makes sense. thanks.

Tive a oportunidade de estar em San Francisco e ver esses adoraveis animais, isso foi em 1999, mas a quantidade era um décimo dos que estão aí hoje, quer dizer eles estão tendo ambiente favorável a reprodução, ou estão vindo de outros locais!!!'Foi muito divertido ficar vendo eles "latindo"...
