Hell is a vile, abusive, disgusting concept. God buys love & loyalty with torture? A Gandhi, Teresa, Mandela would never think of torturing their enemies, whereas a Saddam, Hitler, Stalin would. This is the company that God keeps? Karma & Rebirth is the better, non-violent way. You are not punished, nor are you simply forgiven because you begged enough. The most important aspect of Karma is that you are held accountable for your actions, you are reborn, given another chance to make amends.

Start with Thucydides, and work your way up through the 20'th century. It's a long, long, long story of unending vicious cruelty, violence, and oppression. I'm not sure where you live. But the country I live is very peaceful. I have never seen someone kill someone else, I have never experienced or seen a robbery, I have seen a few fights, but overall 99.99% of what I see is good. Maybe you live in a war zone?

@marcelagae Also do you check the media too much? The media tends to focus solely on bad news because bad news sells as people like excitement. If you actually go out in to the world yourself and use your own senses, you will see that 99% of the people are ok people. I'm not saying everyone is a saint, but I am saying that most of the time, the majority of people are ok.

@mikeyo1234 You're completely wrong. I'm not a Christian. I've been beaten and robbed, but it wasn't in my country. I do not live in a war zone. I have never witnessed serious violence in my country. My country has a strong police force that helps to retain order and it still retains a strong Judeo-Christian ethic that guides most peoples actions. I have no illusions that were these things to go away, my country would descend into barbarism like so many others have throughout history.

The person making the claim is saying "Well, anyone who disagree's with ME must be brainwashed." What I always ask people who accuse others of being brainwashed is, just how do you know YOU are not the brain washed one? Those who reject the gift are left without it and THAT is what hell is, eternal separation from God who is the source of completeness. The concept that God would have to BUY something from you establishes YOU as the authority of justice. If God made all things, that is exactly backward. Accountability is the consequences attached to free choice. Choose to deny God and remain utterly incomplete, if you please.

By the way, the torturing part is something the Catholics dreamt up. It is nowhere in the bible that God will torture you. He will however destroy you. Hell is only the mechanism not the punishment. Death is the punishment.

Well, the description promises an explenation about the problem of evil that does not ridicule god's supreme sovereignty, implicating it's some sort of valid objection to a refutation for the existence of god (the POE).

I suppose this would implicate attempting to prove that god exists, or to cut god some slack (at the very least).

He fails to do so, though.

My point is that people should at least educate themselves enough to comprehend the logical implications of the problem of evil in order to evaluate something like this sermon with enough information in their minds.

I'm thinking this guy doesn't offer a formal view on the subject because doing so would raise too many important questions about god, and that would be improper.
