My family lived at Hluhluwe in 1951, and I was born nearby in the hospital in Nongoma. Shortly after, we moved to a gold mine in the bush in Tanganyika, where I grew up, speaking Swahili before English. I wrote the story of my chaotic upbringing in 'Speak Swahili, Dammit!' now a best-selling biography/memoir on Tanzania, Swahili, etc. Funny to see Hluhluwe still wild!
Some times the drivers go too close to provide "sensations" for their guests....and get a good tip from them. But your drivers did the right thing. Reverse. Hluhluwe is a very nice park!
