Why do I want to live (being an atheist) what makes me want to keep on living......
The answer is quite simply the "unknown" and/or not knowing.
Like, when I walk down the stairs will I be confronted by deity? a unicorn? will I be reunited with an old friend? will I hear some bad news? will I find out that I won the lottery? the possibilities are endless and I want to fill my life with as many possibilities as I can because they are exciting and sometimes heartbreaking but feeling is good.
Well, I was an atheist until an engine broke in the airliner. I felt really inferior with all the other passengers praying and hoping. I came up with this solution: I created my own God who was 2 inches taller than theirs, and was also shaved (theirs had a white beard like Santa-Claus). Well, that was it - as soon as I prayed the plane was automatically put into landing and none was hurt. Have it in mind, can occasionally prove useful.
So you simply left God behind and created your own god... If you find yourself in an airliner with engine trouble I bet I know which God/god you are going to cry out to.
does my cat want to live? she is devoid of any notion of jesus, weapons of mass destruction, sky gods, or any other lie. she eats every day, and drinks water. she wants to live. she loves watching things move. movement gives her life meaning. i want to live, and in fact i love it. i prefer to do so with as few lies as possible.
"I don't find it (the meaning of life)discussed on atheist websites"
Then what websites is this person looking at? Almost every atheist I know sorted this one out a long time ago, and is invariably discussed at most meetings I attend. But I suppose it's eyes shut, fingers in ears and brain switched off....as usual.
"What is the meaning of life" is an improper question IMO.
The only way that I can make sense of it is if I rephrase it as; "What is the meaning of MY life"
"what is the meaning of life" assumes in it's premise that there is meaning and the answer to the question applies to everyone. Ironically, it's really meant to answer the same existential question as my rephrase.
At the end of the day the theist just wants to know how the answer applies to them too.
From a statistical point of view, an eternal afterlife makes your mortal life virtually meaningless. Unless you believe what you do here determines what happens for eternity, in which case the meaning of your life is about anything BUT your actual life (which I find sad). I'll take the atheist's meaning of life any day!
I highly doubt most theists get up in the morning and think "I just got out of bed for god". This all stems down to a major misunderstanding of atheism and atheists. Lack of one belief doesn't mean lack of all beliefs and nihilism.
I guess it derives from sex aka reproduction (a means to survive).....
Good things feel good like sex that is how we can distinguish what feels good,
hammer a nail through your thumb and that feels bad that is how we distinguish what is bad.
Basically speaking of course but just those simple traits that have evolved over time explains a lot.

if you don't believe in God, why do you censor comments?

And there we have it! The appeal to God is motivated by fear. I bet that's what you mean.
Your comment reveals quite a bit about your position.
I bet you created/inherited a god because you can't face life. "Ah! I'm going to die someday! Help me Jesus!"

What a load of crap. There are atheists in foxholes. Also, what god did he create? or are you projecting your own flaws onto him?

Sorry about the way that sounded - I meant that statement to sound like the title of the book series (...for Dummies).
