The government has now come up with a plan to change the way Bonaire handles its both its new and its existing garbage, all with the help of the Dutch. Sean got a mention in the way of "we have to do something now, the whole world can see the state our landfill is in". Thank you, Sean!
And then Sean got a warning letter from the government telling him not to venture onto government-owned property anymore to make these films or he would have to face "dire consequences".
We have started by making a film about the problem to INFORM people, which is always the first step. It is EVERYBODY's problem, the solution has to come from EVERYBODY, so EVERYBODY has to know. Through this medium we are also trying to get interest, and hopefully action and funds, from the Dutch government. Don't diss us for taking the first step!
Lastly, I was wondering, are you also telling journalists reporting Afghanistan that they should do something to stop the war?
Here's an example: the glass recycling project is failing because it's a project set up by 'imported Bonaireans', and the local reaction is: 'just another macamba telling us what to do'. No personal gain involved, physical action towards the problem, ecologically sound. Bonaireans still throw their beer bottles into the sea all along the boulevard, foreign divers usually take them out. What does that tell you?
Funnily enough, that is EXACTLY the problem, StandupH2o and chanchan6. "Like most imported Bonaireans". The fact that Sean is 'imported' means that he's not listened to by Bonaireans. A political party? Who will vote for 'macambas'?
I totaly agree with StandupH2o do somthing with it or start a project to collect the money and things that is needed to change the landfill of bonaire and when you do it don't do it like the most imported bonairians trying to get some personel gain from it!!!!!
Like most imported bonairians. Quick to point out what is bad but never offering any solutions. Take a stand man. Start a political party and see if you can fix it all - Not tomorrow but today
Well done for flagging up the problem. We visited Bonaire last October, and came across this landfill site by accident..it is NOT on the tourist trail! No government regulation is a significant factor.
is het niet daar dat ik samen met de cameraman van dit filmpje enkele jaren geleden zijn auto heb gedumpt?
