How does an American find work in the EU? I realized you were contracted to do a play in the UK and they needed American types, because it was On the Waterfront. Which seems somewhat odd to me, because that was originally a movie with Brando. However, since the Brits produced an opera about Jerry Springer (or was a musical?) I understand they tend to think out of the box more so than American producers. Nevertheless, are you now finding work as an actor on the German stage? In their language?

@periurban Pooper scooper laws don't seem to exist much here...at least in Berlin. lol - or they are not enforced. I'm really surprise cause they are really strict on all the trash, plastics - etc.

Sometimes you have to wonder WTF is going on. Wouldn't it just be better to let the poop decay naturally? Now it gets preserved and festers inside a bag. That's turning a bad situation worse.

I have Googled it, but the definitions I've found don't make any sense. Is it just a word like 'unicorn' that refers to something that doesn't exist?

@ReliableInsider Its a social category for splitting people into groups by general ancestry, and since its a social category, different societies split people up differently. In Australia, they had a "whites only" immigration policy for decades after WWII ... so racists had to get worked up by italians and greeks and croatians and serbians instead.

@eebruce But that's not really my poiny. To be clear all the countries have the issue and struggle with it. I've just noticed since I've been out of the country (it's five years now) just "how much" of news coming out of US is a racial controversy - look, I don't know the exact figure but just to put up an "as if" number; Let's say out 100 about 35-40 is a race story - other places maybe 10-15, if that. And the energy around it is just more intense and it stays around longer.

I think sorting people by continent was never really useful, and now, on top of that, it may simply be impossible. Charlize Theron is African-American. Sub-Saharan Africa has always been far more genetically diverse than, say, Renaissance Europe. There's great diversity among the billions of the world's Asians.

I think skin color may be useless as a splitter and "race" may not even exist.

We shouldn't be dividing people anyway. We should be trying to bring them together.

Racism seems to be this thing white folks invented to make white folks look ridiculous.

The 2008 election shows that 51-99% of America is -not- racist, or at least, is not afflicted with the worst kind of racism.

And yet, the Republican Party seems to be subtly -obsessed- with exploiting people's irrational subconscious anxieties in order to win elections. Sad.

@ReliableInsider Whether skin color is useful as a splitter depends on what the purpose of the splitting is. If the purpose is to distract attention from what would likely be a popular bill to regulate Wall Street ... it doesn't matter if its real or not, only if people will react.

As a canadian I rarely think about race, so I think you are on to something. Another thing I feel is strange abour the American view of race is that is't always about white/black even though those are not the only two skin tones in the world.

@eebruce Yeah, I wasn't even coming from the merits of the case, as it were it. The injustice is clear. It's just that living outside of the country now for 5 years it strikes how much we are constantly in an uproar about race. When I was living there I just accepted it as "par for course" and sad but normal function of society everywhere. But year after year as the various controversy air you start to see a greater percentage of major issues coming out of us is sole based around race.
