Thanks champ. It worked for me. My situation a little different. Catalyst control center version 12.1 (2011.1205.2215.39827) for Radeon HD 6570 gives no options tab or profile setup.Went through your steps via User, Appdata, Local, ATI, ACE,right click profile and edit.Changed "CoreClockTarget_0" from 10000 to 20000 and "MemoryClockTarget_0" from 15000 to 66700. Saved and then rebooted the PC. Checked CCC panel and idle CPU clock now 200Mhz instead of 100Mhz.Memory clock now 667Mhz not 150Mhz.:)
@Brucekneehigh I had the same issue, no options. So I followed your instructions and I do believe it worked! I have been trying to fix this dumb thing for MONTHS!
I have a two screens and one of them always had this issue. I followed your instructions and everything is fixed. Thank you so much. I already recommend your video to other people with same screen flickering problem. Thanks again
I am trying this now my computer screen keeps flickering and it goes really dark so i can barely see anything and stays that way for awhile then goes light for a minute and keeps flickering ahh it hurts my eyes >__<
It's there a way to do this with a new version of Catalyst? Can't find and options menu. I have 11.12 and have been experiencing this issue with two different ATI cards in 2 completely different systems. One card is the 6950 and now I'm using a 5970.
nice advice, mine isnt flickering, just crashes after playing bfbc2 for about 1 or so,im running xfx 5870s,intel extreme qx9770,at 4.1ghz,with thermaltake v1 all copper cooler, corsair tx 750 psu,and 8gbddr2 viper ram, with a msi p45 platinum, windows 7 ultimatex64,my ccc is 11.6 and cap 11.6,running afterburner version 2.1,so i think i have enough horses under the hood so to speak, just the fucking think locks up,after about hour of bfbc2,well not totally,im able to get task manager and end task,
hi there,i'm using HP Compaq window vista 7 basic,64bits,ATI hd 3200,i followed your step but at the end when i clicked right click,i can't find "EDIT",and i'm failed to edit the profile. what should i do next?my laptop now gettin' worst & i'm really it will get worst soon or later, please help me.Thanks and really appreciate your help.
yo dude, i was wondering...my 850W psu can support these two cards in my system...i was just wondering coz my psu is abit of a budget one...i know there are 2, 6pin power connectors on these cards....but my psu on provides 2, 6 pin power connectors...if i was to put 1, 6pin power connector in each card would they work? and what would the effect be?
p.s. activating "Composite Sync" in CCC also fixes the problem, but i am worried it might damage the monitor. I have a samsung bx2235 hooked up through a VGA-DVI cable to my PC.
Sadly, my problem is not on desktop at idle speeds, the screen does not flicker but performance is pretty bad sometimes. My problem is in games at full speed. Yesterday i tried to activate overdrive and underclocked a bit, it fixed all problems. Then i went back to factory clocks and left overdrive active and it still was fine. Today after restart the problems appeared again and activating/deactivating overdrive doesn't cuts it anymore. I will try this fix, hope it works for me too :(
How can AMD be so ignorant to this problem? My PC worked fine with my single 5850 and CRT monitor for the past few months at 1280x1024. Once i bought a new LED monitor yesterday and changed to 1920x1080 this idiotic problem appeared. Every time i go into a game (not all of them which is odd), after ~5 mins the screen starts to flicker, or shiver better said. The last time i saw something like this was years ago on a CRT monitor and it was related with refresh rate. Not now though X(
Thanks man i have been for about two weeks now hunting for a fix for this problem and today my friend sent me this link ,And wow its fixed the problem that was giving me so much pain ..I dont think i have much hair on my head left ... THANKS SO MUCH FOR POSTING THIS ....
Sigh, having flickering problems with my 2 display setup on my 5970, however, the first core will go to 400mhz and the second core to 150mhz, and guess what is happening to the second core's screen, yes flickering. Oh, well it seems to speed up to 400mhz when I watch a movie on the second screen so I don't need to go through that bs to fix it anyways :) however ty for the video i may one day do it.
My minimize and close buttons at the top of the folder for example, and if i havent played a game before and it is first time afeter closing my pc and boot again to windows,it lags ...for stop that i have to play a hardcore game...Please help ! I will burn the hd 6870 and go with nvidia again...
I had the same problem as shown in this video i'm running single card not x-fire. I had installed rivertuner. To do that I had to do this forums DOT guru3d DOT com/showpost.php?p=3534389&postcount=151
Then manually set my clock + memory speed. I'm aware this means its using more power but I only use it as a gaming rig anyway.
@vohdoun I haven't tested it at all, I read about it, tried it, it worked, and I don't have time to test it. I just updated too and WOW I can't believe there's these problems... I also have a NEW problem now where when i'm full screen in a video game and hit windows, It takes like 10-20 seconds to show my desktop and same when I go back into the game
@scottjohnsonltd You're suffering the 99% GPU bug. Alt tabbing, UAC prompts, user logouts, system shutdown/reboot process and whatever when the GPU gets pegged at 99% causes this long delay. The only way to get it back to 0% is a reboot.
Some people say Firefox 4 triggers it due to it's hardware acceleration. I don't use Firefox 4 yet and still get it from time to time. It's totally random. Yet I've had a clean bootup and a simple thing like Aero triggers it. Yet other times it does not.
@scottjohnsonltd upon testing the idle clock speeds, I've got them lowered down to 250Mhz for GPU and 450Mhz for the Memory. No flickers and it'll lower those idle temperatures back into the high 30's for CrossFire.
Of course upon further reading, if you're running dual display you need your settings for the GPU. No lower than 400Mhz for the GPU clock. As stock idle speeds are not powerful enough to drive two displays below 400Mhz. That's what spyre said on the AMD forums.
I have a problem (Mobo: MSi 870-G45, Palit GTX460 768mb, 4GB DDR3, 500 Watts PSU) When I'm playing games, the screen keeps freezing as if the color changed from 32bit to 16bit. It's either that or it freezes with small bits of flickering rainbow colors and shut down. Windows keep saying that it crashed and recovered, but most of the time it freezes up and required hard restart. I have latest drivers. Anyone help please?
@the4445 Try uninstalling the drivers and Catalyst, then re-installing, if you cant make a profile and follow these steps I'm not sure how to fix :( let me know if this helps.
@scottjohnsonltd cheers for the prompt reply! i haven't needed to do that, as for some reason when i right clicked on the desktop to go to graphics properties, it went to my hp help desk and i was able to access what i needed to.
So no it didn't help, but had my problem persisted i'm sure it would've! :P
thumbs up you your having flicker when watching this video

Have you tested lower idle speeds to see where the problem starts and clears to get lower temperatures at idle?
Also why hasn't ATI fixed this in future drivers. Even in 11.3 just released this problem still exists.
What was the forum you found this fix on. I'm curious to read what they said about it to this day.

same problem here, even when CCC is not installed...
But I've got it a lot worse. I'm uploading a video showing a red screen right now..
Any nvidia fanboys who wish to see ATI failing.. click my profile.. cause this is bad :(
I'm gonna try your method though.. see what it'll do.
