As the creators want to replace a pet they need this looks as real as possible, as most of people don't know how scream a baby seal, how it moves, how is their behavior then is more credible and people can't compare with nothing.

Guys you know this is for therapy?because you know this costs a lot but at toy stores you can get a wowwee robot animal!it's soft and fluffy but is also a robot and you can pet it too and sleep with it.they also have a seal pup just like paro. And it's like under the cost paro is like 40 or 60$ or maybe even cheaper!

According to one of the assistants at a Japanese science museum, he says they cost about $300 and the battery power doesn't last too long. I'm not sure if that refers to this exact model of Paro or not though, but they do look the same.
