iv just seen oen of these on ebay and its like 5 grand ouch para robots seal healing pets their called you could but a real seal pup probely for that but if win the lottery ill buy thise sealbot
Every human over the earth is vulnerable to connect emotionaly with a robot, though a lot say that not, that show us what important is the external appearance, of course not if you are a canadian seal hunter jaja.
@MsUVA1988 It's because people don't have preconceived feelings towards a seal. It's a neutral animal, whereas there are a lot of people who don't like dogs or don't like cats.
@MsUVA1988 because people knows the behavior and movements of a dog or a cat, the people will behind to compare the robot dog or the robot cat with the real ones. As the creators want to replace a pet they need this looks as real as possible, as most of people don't know how scream a baby seal, how it moves, how is their behavior then is more credible and people can't compare with nothing.
Guys you know this is for therapy?because you know this costs a lot but at toy stores you can get a wowwee robot animal!it's soft and fluffy but is also a robot and you can pet it too and sleep with it.they also have a seal pup just like paro. And it's like under the cost paro is like 40 or 60$ or maybe even cheaper!
If you're supposed to use these seals to help people get a better grasp on reality, why not a dog or cat, something that it might actually be plausible for the people to have with them... Unless you're going to drop off a kiddie pool full of water and some dead fish too...
@MsUVA1988 There are people who have severe allergies to real animals, or where they live they aren't allowed to have pets. Such an invention as this is helpful for them.
hey maybe they can club these ones instead if the real ones. They have no regard for defenceless baby seals any way so they won't be able to tell the difference between whats a robot and whats actually alive and can feel pain.
Because he is intended as a "therapy" tool, and thus, a medical instrument, not for playing. which is a pity, because Id love to have such an adorable thing...
How about spending 10 dollars for a stuffed animal version of this, cut a hole in the ass, pull out half the stuffing, insert hand and make puppet move and mewl like this while saving $5, 990. Jesus, and people wonder why it costs so much to go to the hospital.
According to one of the assistants at a Japanese science museum, he says they cost about $300 and the battery power doesn't last too long. I'm not sure if that refers to this exact model of Paro or not though, but they do look the same.
ever seen the horse? it's nuts...follows you around the room with its eyes begs for attention like you say about this one lol...my buddies kid has one pushes against your hand when you pet it...to real.
Why not just use a real therapy animal? If they wan't to use something weird like a seal, why not use a therapy sloth? Or a therapy pangolin or tortoise?
doesnt look much different from those damn furbies... i think the furby looks more fun than this thing. whats so special about it? it moves so robotically.
Okay, I need this as my pet. No need to have a dog or cat. This one doesn't poop you know.

The Paro were created by man
They rebelled.
They evolved.
They look
And Feel
Seal.
Some are programmed to think they are seals.
There are many copies
And they have a plan.

Still doesn't explain why they're using a robo seal instead of a robo dog or cat... or any animal that could realistically be a pet
