@sushiamelo Um, why would you want to use a 35mm adapter on an aps-c dslr? It already uses lenses designed for 35mm, and depth of field is practically a given on these things.
Very cool, I did not realize Letus is located in Portland OR where I live. I just bought a car from a guy here two days ago and his friend Hien is the owner of the Letus company. I'm using a 5D II and T2i (550D) right now so I don't need the adapter, but when I get a camcorder again, I will try to get a Letus. Small world, and thanks for the video. I subbed to your channel, I have been checking out your website in the past year. I'm practicing right now, but hope to have better videos soon.
I DONT UNDERSTAND THIS ABOUT VIDEOCAMERA KONTRA DSLR CAMERAS. IF I AM SHOOTING A DOCUMENTARY AND WANT THIS FIELD OF DEPTH WHAT IS THE BEST CAMERA TO USE, MY JVC GY HM100 OR A DSLR??
i got the hpx171 (hpx170 in the states) and its 72 mm, is there a lens optimisation kit for the Panasonic hpx 171 that gives me sharp focus across the entire image?
Letus products are getting more and more expensive....i rather buy a dslr that shoots video now instead of having a heavy lens adapter on my camcorder
so what does the lense do and what if dont buy a lense does it work and im not clear on da zoom do i have to physicly zoom or cud i use the zoom on da camera
@zamandon The Letus is not a lens. It is really like a condensed telecine chain. Your HVX (for example) camera lens is actually shooting a mirror inside of the letus. You must tape down your focus and zoom rings on the camera to keep them from moving about. If they move your images are basically ruined as you will either be way out of focus (critical as Phillip mentioned) or, the image will be squeezed down or zoomed in if the zoom is altered. All lens control will be done by the added on lens.
i just bought a sony ex1r xdcam... i just shot a short film.. but it gave me a quality of a documentary... it didnt' give me da film look... da lectus product da man is selling... does it really work?... plz advise mee...
i have an ex1 and letus extreme. it does give it a film look but you still have to color correct the footage in the editing process to give it a full film look. i use nikon lenses. check out some of my footage from my webseries CHILLIN AT LEROYS to see the results.
Hey bro, I just bought ex1r... so dn't kno too much about it... wen shooting a footage, on wat format should i shoot at inorder to get da "Film" type quality?...
i get the same with the old letus35 with my hvx200 they keep upselling with fancyer exterior but the letus35 for 1000$ will get you the same as their 3000$ unit
brother i just bought sony ex1r xdcam... i shot a short film with it... but the camera did not give me a film quality i want, but rather its a documentary quality... if i buy the letus lens, will it actually work, will it give da film look to my projects?... cauze i never used this product before so before i purchase, i wanted to find out from somebody who is more experienced... thanx...
Hey Phillip I Need Your Advice! Im currently shooting with the Sony -HC 1. Theres is a Letus Mini available now! Will That Get Me The Film Look! Or Do I Need The EX 1?
What lens should I use, or, what lens did you use for most shots you did? 105mm? 200mm? 80mm? 300mm? Thanks for making this extremely informative video which is as good as Lettus themselves would have made. Man, I bet this video took you a LOT of work!
Do you tend to work on manual with your camera? I ask because I was worried about exposure. How does altering the stops effect the cams ability to read the image in terms of exposure. Or are you best setting the camera to easy/program mode? I'm used to using 35 cams with 35m lenses - now I'm a little confused :-( Please help - 5* anyway - I am now saving my pennies.
I just got my Letus Mini 35. Loving it already. It's amazing.
One thing though. The vibration motor for the ground glass is VERY audible and is a huge distraction. I understand that most people make montage/slow motion style videos with these adapters, but I also want to shoot some small episode videos.
Is this motor noise common or did I get a Monday Letus?
Thanks so much, great little video. It's hard to find a tutorial about the right way to use my Letus35Extreme. I had to find out the hard way about the f stop and shutter speed limitations.
What zoom and focus settings do you set your camera to? For my HVX the magic numbers seem to be zoom 79 and focus 48. Although I feel like that's too zoomed in, or is that the correct frame size for a 35mm camera? What's your experience with that?
Great shots! I have just brought the Letus Extreme to use with my Canon XM2, it works good and I have achieved similar quality as your footage, but I have encountered one problem, not with the letus, but compression. How did you manage to keep that sharp look on youtube? I've just put my footage up and it looks pants, it is not good representation of the letus because the compression has messed it up.
Great footage! Just a minor question. I've never used Nikon lenses with an adaptor, but does the fact of the focus/iris being opposite to say a ENG lens, canon or Fujinon, or even the cine lens, does that bother you at all? You do still do shoot with your normal broad cast lens too right?
Hi again. I have a letus35fe and the thing is i see a piece of glass inside it that moves about like as if glued to anything is this normal or am i screwed? its rectangle in shape and it seem to be moving aboutwhen i turn the letus upside down. help am i screwed?
One thing that I was uncertain about: When you say "fixed focal length", I interpreted that to mean that the lenses have no zoom feature. Does that mean if I want to get a close-up, I have to physically move the camera closer or further away? Is there any way top get a variable zoom lense attatched to the Letus, and what is the drawback of doing so? Also, does the Letus come with a lense, or do you have to buy it seperatley?
you can buy zoom lenses but for them to be usable they have to be f2.8 all the way through otherwise it is useless. These are quite expensve. No the Letus does not come with a lens.
Gives you a lot of information about how 35mm DOF adapters works. I have always been a fan of your videos and footage, that you shot with the Sony EX1, so this certain gives me an idea how to achieve that film look.
Thank you very much Philip for this. It really helped me a lot.
