No, I never had issues with the shells hitting my face. We were using AAA ammo to run it on semi, and 7 1/2's for the pump action. It ejected them all clear of the shooter.

The idea is some rounds might not be powerful enough to cycle the action. Things like beabag or gas canister, or even rubber bullet rounds won't make the gun work on semi auto. You'll need to use the pump.
Also you might want to bypass the loaded magazine and insert a specialty round like a door breaching slug or something.
@Kayback What you say is true, but the magazine thing aint quite right. You have the same opportunity to load with a different shell with a semi as you would have with a pump, just that pulling back the bolt is a bit more complicated on a semi.

The pump on the SPAS-12 is for when you're running ammunition too weak to cycle it, or for safer operation, so that when the shell is fired, it doesn't chamber a fresh round, making the weapon safer in certain situations. When you're in a close engagement situation or a competition, the semi-automatic mode is MUCH preferred.

@buyer5207, that is not even the right reason. Even thought jgkov49 is wrong, he was almost as close as you. The main reason for the selective firing is that some rounds like beanbag rounds or tear gas rounds don't have enough power to effectively cycle the bolt in semi-automatic mode. That is why it has selective fire capability. What you said is plausible, but it is really unlikely you are going to be firing enough rounds in a row to make it so dirty it can't fire in the semi-automatic mode.
I've done it..........and im sure people in the military fire more rounds then me. But, you are correct......Beanbag and non lethal rounds do not have enough energy to cycle the gun you are correct on that but you can get a semi dirty enough for it to not cycle rounds efficiently again i have done it

The idea is some rounds might not be powerful enough to cycle the action. Things like beabag or gas canister, or even rubber bullet rounds won't make the gun work on semi auto. You'll need to use the pump.
Also you might want to bypass the loaded magazine and insert a specialty round like a door breaching slug or something.

@Kayback What you say is true, but the magazine thing aint quite right. You have the same opportunity to load with a different shell with a semi as you would have with a pump, just that pulling back the bolt is a bit more complicated on a semi.

@clipzngunz My grandpa have a semi auto shotgun and we need powerful shells to make it work. On the spas you can go pump if the ammo is to weak. Love that weapon.

@ForcedChaos Intimidating yes; practical, dependant. The pump on the SPAS-12 is for when you're running ammunition too weak to cycle it, or for safer operation, so that when the shell is fired, it doesn't chamber a fresh round, making the weapon safer in certain situations. When you're in a close engagement situation or a competition, the semi-automatic mode is MUCH preferred.

Go to Spike's website and advise Deadliest Warrior to throw in Austria's EKO Cobra with the Styer AUG and SPAS-12 and anything else in a match-up against SAS, Al Qaeda, anybody that they can win against in the match-up! @Dsparil666 Jeez, you'd think I'd know the difference. No, break. As in it stopped working. Mainly due to dirt and low powered rounds.
The pump jammed up solid and we couldn't manually cycle rounds any more and the semi auto wasn't even remotely working.
Handed it back to the owner and said "fixit!" so I have no idea about the real issue with it.

@5602KK Selective fire. The weapon is currently in semi-automatic mode. It can be switched to manual reload.

@jgkov49 your retarded kid. A gun doesn't run out of "gas". Each round you fire produces the gas and therefore auto loads it into the chamber. The reason why there is a pump design is so that when the gun gets dirty and you dont have time to clean it you can change it to pump. Once a semi gets really dirty it's jamomatic. when pump gets dirt it still fires and you can get another round in the chamber. Dumbass. Theres nothing called manual....its called pump dumbass

@buyer5207, that is not even the right reason. Even thought jgkov49 is wrong, he was almost as close as you. The main reason for the selective firing is that some rounds like beanbag rounds or tear gas rounds don't have enough power to effectively cycle the bolt in semi-automatic mode. That is why it has selective fire capability. What you said is plausible, but it is really unlikely you are going to be firing enough rounds in a row to make it so dirty it can't fire in the semi-automatic mode.

I've done it..........and im sure people in the military fire more rounds then me. But, you are correct......Beanbag and non lethal rounds do not have enough energy to cycle the gun you are correct on that but you can get a semi dirty enough for it to not cycle rounds efficiently again i have done it
