An outstanding series I didn't know existed and am grateful to see posted. Donne's timeless poetry coupled with fine readings by Julian Glover. Glover is a longtime favorite actor, from THE AVENGERS, DR. WHO, FOR YOUR EYES ONLY and INDIANA JONES AND THE LAST CRUSADE. It's nice to see him employing his "highbrow" talents (as he did in DOMBEY & SON). His reading and inflections draw so much out of the poems, especially his reading of "A Hymn to God the Father" and its clever play on 'done"/Donne.

This British series was broadcast in Australia in the mid-1980s, which is when my copy dates from (hence the ropey quality of some of the footage).

There were 16 episodes, of which I have only four. You can find an episode list online, but unfortunately there is no sign of a DVD release to date.

I will upload the other three episodes at some point. Thanks for watching.

Sorry, but I have no idea how to rip and torrent anything and with hundreds of programs still to upload on youtube and hardly any time to do them, I'm not likely to get around to this any time soon. But if you can download it from youtube and torrent it, feel free. Thanks for looking.

This is wonderfully rich poetry. And it really helps the reader to hear it read so beautifully. How did you get hold of this series? Thanks so much.
