  • Nick, Pegasus is a permanent runway in glacier ice. You must be thinking of the sea ice runway which is established and removed every year. It is setup right in front of McMurdo every winter and operations move to Pegasus in the spring/summer as the sea ice gets thin. I've worked in the area as a scientist pretty much every year for the last 18

  • @GalavantingLLC maybe I was just thinking it was a orientation change. I know in the 07-08 season it was possible to pretty much simply walk over the the wrecked c121 but in 09-10 I could only see it off in the far distance when standing on the runway. You're a brave soul sir ! 18 years is a lot of hard work even if its in short spurts. Beautiful place to visit but I'm ready to leave after a few weeks. You must enjoy the cold ;) Thanks for posting the videos, hope to see more.

  • I'm pretty sure it only takes a few weeks to prep the runway then just normal care. At least I know the actual runway was moved last year from its previous location so it definitely doesn't take years. Fun video none the less. What where you doing in Antarctica ? Take care.
