I think every one is not paying enough attention to the underlying meaning of the song. I don't think it's just about New York City. I think it's about any place where we feel consumed, tired, burnt out, etc.

I live in a small town in Arkansas, and I think it's killing me, too sometimes. So I get away for a while.

Who knows what will happen, who you'll meet, etc if you get away for a moment. That's what Ray is trying to say.

And he says is BEAUTIFULLY, as always, I might add!

There is something unique in Ray LaMontagne's voice that can make the simplest of songs amazing. I have heard good people try to sing his songs at a few open mic nights and fail, I think the reason is that the songs normally mean something very significant to him. I saw him at Nottingham in UK and he seemed really quite vulnerable on stage as though the songs bought back the emotions that inspired him to write them. An amazing artist and glad to have had the good fortune to see him.
