shouldn't you all know the rules of right of way...
and the number one rule is to avoid collision at all costs. if you are the stand on boat and someone is not giving way, you must give way in order to avoid a collision.
being the stand on boat does not make you right, neither does racing.
The starboard boat did have rights and he might have been racing. He could have been a JAM boat (jib and main) or he could racing in a different section. Racing or not, if you don't give way it gets expensive. Non racers, please stay away from marks or else!! See everyone at the 2009 Mac!!
granted, the bigger sailboat had right of way given he was on starboard tack. Still, he was not racing and should have been considerate not to impede a race in progress. The u20 skipper should have also looked ahead knowing there was a "gomer" on the course and taken it wide. 2 bad, fd'up his rounding..
Great jibe rounding the guy had, too bad he didn't know he was the burdened vessel. Whay the Catalina (or whatever it was) was still there is a mystery.
When we where out with our sail bot....it was an idiot that drove whit hes motor boat in 20 knots....it was so great fog we couent see 15 yards behind our boat....he drove 40m up on land....hes wife is not recovered yet and it happened for 8 months ago....he had hes wife and 2 children with him....that idiot
I can only speculate that the boat being rammed either missed the bouy or hit the bouy and, was trying to go around the bouy again on a port tack. Boat which did the ramming had the right of way? Anyway... they will both be back to race another day.
I remember a crash about 10 years before this where Midnight Express T-boned Gaucho coming up on a mark... lot more damage, but wasn't caught on tape :-/

The boat that got hit had the right of way. He was on a starboard tack. granted he shouldn't have been right there though.

Crap, starboard tack has right of way, the skipper on the port tack yacht wants a smack in the head for that.

That's a beautiful S2. Best brand of yacht in my opinion. Wish they still made them.
