I love Bruce. Knew him before BNL. What I love about Bruce is the more rock edge to the song. But I love hearing Jim in the beginning of BNL's version and I love Steve's parts. It's all good though, because Bruce likes the BNL version too. At some awards show he wanted to make sure BNL came to play this song.
Those those bashing BNL, I grew up in the late 90s and had they not preformed it I never would of discovered Bruce Cockburn. Great musicians were inspired by an equally great musician and they gave it their all. Nothing more to say.
This is really interesting, I've never heard him play it this way live before. I guess I've only seen him do it on the acoustic where he's sort of finger picking his way through it, and I've never seen him try to replicate the sort of staccato eighth notes like on the album.
One of the greatest treasures of Canada. Brilliant composer, fantastic lyricist and totally living in the world. Can't wait to hear what he might write about the Toronto G20 but he's already mentioned the monsters of the planet in other songs. Maybe something on beating them before they consume us all for profit.
There is nothing about Bruce I dislike. I've met him after each concert and he is always willing to chat. His fingerpicking is immaculate.

I definitely prefer the Barenaked Ladies version but the original of much covered songs always deserves much props.

@alexglauer Are you on crack? You like that one better? This is the problem with music today.

@KANDY647 You know that cover came out in the late-80s, right? Not a lot to do with the state of music today, methinks.
And personally, I like both Bruce's version and their version about equally. They're both got different strengths, but I couldn't chose just one.
