  • Katy Perry / Kesha = Cyndi Lauper

Lady GaGa / Britney Spears = Madonna

  • Her real range is Eb3-C7

  • Iron voice...

  • She's great!

  • What makes Cyndi such an outrageous, elemental assault is not just her range, but that she has control over the emotive effects at all points. Wherever she goes she can elicit a deliberate projection of desired feelings and tones. She never just shows a note for its own sake; she is fully invested in the song itself, its themes and meanings, and she can blend her performance with others as an integrated whole. In this way she may be the most powerful female voice in modern pop history.

  • Estas canciones son muy buenas Cyndi Lauper realmente se pule en sus canciones con At Last, Money Changes Everything, Ill be you river y otras más.

  • can anyone tell which song it is in 1:47 ?? :D pleeeeease

  • @PommesHexe The song is "Boy Blue", from her album "True Colors" an amazing song... but underrated like Cyndi. She can really sing, she is amazing!

  • waahhhhh what a voice

  • She is an amazing soprano

  • man she's got range!! I knew it before but it's awesome to see it this way! :)

  • At least she´s the best singer ever!

  • there are 2 people who can attest that she has a 4 octave: cyndi herself and Katie Agresta. Anybody else that does comparisons based on what is available via tracks or performances doesn't have the full picture.

  • you also forgot the other A5 she did on "I am a real american"

  • Song for her A5 and B5 in chest voice?

  • could a few of you please tell the youtuber kouldeliee to get some education on vocals, he keeps saying that madonna can outsing cyndi!

  • Song at 2:27?

  • @mAnNyElLaTiNo33 The song is LIES, album Hat full of stars

  • @janito035 Yeah I recently found that out, thank you though :)

  • Well the most impressive thing is that she use that amazing range live not Lipsyned like most others

  • All kinds of female singers can sing all those crazy high and low notes, but Cyndis' sounds most interesting and unique.

  • that guy said OH Goddamn

  • @michaeldriggers123 Her singing a G#5, with guitar overlay.

  • just one mistake, its not called falsetto, but head voice, the falsetto is just one tone in a headvoice

  • i love how she can change her voice, from childish to strong

  • Its not just her range, its her control. Look up her cover of Carey at a tribute to Joni Mitchell.

  • UN AMPLIO REGISTRO, UN BONITO TIMBRE Q MAS,,,, PUES SIMPLEMENTE ENCANTO DE CYNDI LUPER

  • she can sing so damn good she gets not enough credit i feel!

  • The C7 sound like a organ.

  • this makes me wish that she had done a duet with Freddie Mercury. Both have powerful voices

  • CYHNDI LAUPER THE BESTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT

  • Her vocals are seriously impressive ,,,, and SHE KNOWS HOW TO USE IT !!!!!

  • @mAnNyElLaTiNo33 baby workout live in paris (:

  • Comment removed

  • She hits G#5 in Baby Wok Out" the paris concert 87'. She sounds like a guitar! Love it! I can hit that same note but my voice doesn't like doing it. I feel raspy afterwrads.

  • Comment removed

  • People don't generally appreciate her enormous top range ... but as soon as you listen to any normal girl trying to sing "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" ... you realise Cindy has mad vocal skils.

  • Can someone please tell me the name of the song at 2:05, or G#5 pleeeaase?? I just saw it recently, but I've been looking threw all these old live videos, and can't find it again... I'll keep looking.

  • Comment removed

  • The song is "Baby work out" It is a Jackie Wilson song. She did a cover of the song at her 1987 Paris concert. I fucking loved it!

  • @mrhobs LOL... through, not threw, my bad. :P

  • @mrhobs "Boy Blue"

  • Thank you for this video!

  • cyndi !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • what is the G#6 from?

  • Comment removed

  • CAN YOU DO GWEN STEFANI!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Yeah!!! Midnight Radio sung by Cyndi is awesome!!!!... And no comparisson to Madonna...Madonna is an entertainer...the greatest entertainer in the world, if you would... Cyndi is an Artist Singer, who has been inivted to sing either in John Lennon's Tributes, Nobel Prize Gala dinners, and sung with Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Patti LaBelle +++ and so on, besides her philantropic activities she's been invited to the White House as honor guest to watch the signature of the Hate Crime Act

  • is the F6 from girls just want to have fun?

  • What version of girl just wanna have fun is that at 0:28? could someone please tell me?

  • @ptimms1 Its Hey Now(Girls Just Want To Have Fun) Its from the 12 Deadly Cyns greatest hits collection :)

  • @chersnumber1 Thankyou! :D

  • Where is the G#6 from?

  • You're so right mickaelsurtour!

  • I meant to say: check out HIS, and not HE'S spelling. Sorry for the error. I've just about had enough of this guy attacking Cyndi.

  • This guy masking him/herself as "hedani20" is really "kouldelie", and he's a crazy Madonna-fan who gets into trying to say that we "Cyndi fans say that she has 4 octaves when she only has 3" , check out he's spelling and english and what he talks about: always attacking Cyn and always stating that Madonna has a "huge range" XD

He's a wanna be "vocal expert".

  • He should resign... Vocal xpert lol, even the best could not give the ghost of a voice to madonna ahah ^^.

The girl can sll and be trashy but can't sing, she don't have this talent.

Cyndi lauper on the other hand got nothing to prove when it comes about singing, she SINGS!!!

  • @laupernaranjolabelle Yeah hes such a dick ae !!! Kouldelie needs to fuck off

  • Comment removed

  • Dear John is not here and this song is lower.

She is the best singer!!!!! No doubt.

It´s the same what people say about.

  • A5...what's the song????????

  • its a shame that i only knew her for 'Girls Just Want to Have Fun'

  • @0secretusername0 just girls?? u__u what the fu**ck.... she is the owner of time after time true colors, money changes everything... U___u

  • The true is that she can really sing. She can sing that she want. She have a multicolor voice... she is great

  • sto canale non ha senso.

  • cool! cyndi is the BEST ! :)

  • i agree with u Mikligard, we should juge real artist by their talent not their physical appearence. It's a pity to see worthless comments like hedani20

  • Hedani20. only one that is showing his/her ugliness are you with your childish and immature comments.

  • C7 is not her voice is a Instrument

  • she has hit a C7 but that was definitely not it...indeed an instrument

  • @jaybee316 she never could do the F6 live... so she cant do C7!!!! Studio change the notes!! live her high note is just a Eb6, for she screams all time, people thinks her range is very big, but not is!! for has a big range, to have great low notes and amazing head voice notes!! and she dont has low notes and her hightest is just Eb6!!

  • @hedani20

just b/c she hasn't done a live F6 in the digital era doesn't mean she was never able to in her entire career...her range is vast b/c an F3 isn't very deep, just b/c she doesn't sing it live/studio doesn't mean she isn't capable or wasn't able to when she was younger

  • @hedani20 Get a life and realise you havnt a clue what you're talking about

  • kouldeLIEe get a life, your comments are full of shit and pointless.

  • kouldeliee: GET a LIFE!!!!, and find a music/vocal teacher.

  • Dont hold your breath hey0000you.,kouldeliee is diehard Madonna fan.

There is no change Madonna vocal range is higher then Cyndi Lauper. I have read that Madonna range is 2.5 to 3 octavas. p.s. Cyndi Lauper longest note live is 16 seconds while Madonna is 10 seconds.

  • love cup, sorry tobreeak your heart cyn has a 6 octive range up there with babara streisand, celion dion and aretha franklyn, madonna A,K.A madunn only has octive range due to studio help. no camparison to cyn.!!

  • Madonna longest note is 17 seconds!!!! Cyndi dont have notes After D6 live!! so she dont can prove that 3,4 octaves.

Ps. I not madonna fan, but I just know how she and cyndi can sing or not, I note believe in all than I can see, I check all live. In studio is easy do 4 octaves or 5, like, for example, the Singer Camille in "Money note" do a C8, but is a effect sound, live she can do just notes in 6º octave, no note in 7 and then nothing C8...

  • Cyndi never can do F6 in where in you mine, she do a playback in that note, cause she dont can do that live!!!

  • And I never say, Madonna is more high than Cyndi... you say this.

but madonna range is more large than Cyndi cause she have a great low register, and Cyndi dont have. Madonna can do easy notes like a contralto. can Cyndi do this? Look madonna in Snooner or Later live in Barcelona and you see how low she can go...

Cause this to the her lowest at the her highest note live her range is more large than Cyndi, for her great low register

  • Madonna low notes are horrible!

  • and obvious the best of Cyndi is in her High notes, the low notes of her almost non-existent, just F3!! Understand now?

I never say Madonna is better, just say live her range is a little more large... ITS A FACT, look my video and check this

  • list of songs please

  • list of songs please?

  • She's a great singer! :)

  • This guy "kouldeliee", is one of those Madonna fans who know NOTHING about singing and are so desperate to convince the whole comunnity that their idol can sing live, that they make the most absurd and ridiculous statements like: "Madonna live is awesome!", no she's not!, I've seen her live , I went to the Blonde Ambition Tour, and it was a good show, but I could just as well have watched it on tv or on DVD, it was thrilling because of her star power and charisma. NOT her vocal talent/voice.

  • I wish people would stop comparing them all the time. Apples and oranges. I've seen both live numerous times and I'll take Cyndi over anybody. She is an amazing talent. Madonna's show is a completely different experience. I went to the Confessions tour twice and I have the DVD. There is no way to recreate the experience of being there live because it simply was awesome. Her physicality was breathtaking but the highlight was a powerful ballad. They both have their own merits.

  • thank god someone else noticed that !!!!

  • The Same Old Story note was falsetto.

The B5 was closer to a C6 using my piano software.

She does an A5 in Lady Marmalade with Patti Labelle & Jessica Simpson at a Divas show, which can be found on youtube.

I'm amazed at how well and long she can sustain her high notes. Such a unique, powerful and capable voice.

  • I didn't know she could whistle.

  • Why are you surprised? She's a female with an EXTREMELY high-pitched voice. You don't even need to be a female at all, or have a high-pitched voice AT ALL to reach "whistles"....they really aren't that rare, I don't know why people act like they are. Being able to vocalize actual words and phrases in them with such control as Mariah and Minnie, yes that's rare....but being able to REACH the notes is actually quite common, as it is an acquired skill.

  • I'm not really surprised, I just never heard her do it in her songs. The reason I thought it was rare is because there are alot of great female singers who can't hit the whistle note. I know you can aquire the skill and I know that's what mariah did, but it must also be limited to a certain extent by your vocal cords. So not everyone can learn to whistle. If they can, I wanna learn lol.

  • I guess not EVERYONE, but most people can. Two years ago, I could barely get a note out in the whistle register for a second...now I've taught myself how to sustain it, even with vibrato. Like I said, it's an acquired skill. There are SOOO many people on this site alone (even guys) who can do it...

  • Here's an example here of an amateur male singer using whistle register /watch?v=cYzK_DNmwUU but female singers usually do it better.

However, I'm not aware of anyone of either gender able to phonate words in whistle register. I don't think I've even heard any singer pronouncing intelligible words beyond the soprano high C. If you know of any on YouTube please show me!

  • Mariah Carey can, look up Vision of love pepsi smash and you'll see...other songs as well have her singing in whistle saying words not just a long note

  • and she did in the never too far whistle note

  • Can you make the same with Madonna please? How many octaves have Madonna?

  • probably not very many.

  • 3,5 octaves

  • HAHAHAHA!

  • She has more range, that´s is not complete. She has more songs.

cyndi Lauper 4 octave. Madonna 1 octave.

  • lol Never!!!

  • yes is true

  • than show me.

  • Low note in Sooner or later Barcelona and high note in Ray of ligh live Oprah, and this range of Cyndi is Studio version Live she don't can do this high notes or can?

  • yes she can she did at VH1 Divas!!! a hella high note belted powerfully with Jessica Simpson and PATTI LABELLE On the stage and she was the most powerful of them all

  • Ok, that note in Divas Live is G5 and the sound more audible is Jessica Note in chest/mix voice with vibrato... but i see Cyndi do a High note in All throulgh the night With Shaggy in ending (uuuuuuuuuu) i Think she do a B5 maybe C6, but over this i never see, not live, and after she get old your voice sound so much better to me, and your breath for sustein the long notes too.

  • man you do not know anything about singing your just a damn wannabe lmao!

  • the note was an A5, and at the End her a J.S sang a G5. bt jessica got overpowered

  • jessica's mic was barely even on....she's usually much louder than that. i guess because she was on the stage with two legends, they hushed her mic.

  • the range on your video of madonna was C3,C6 3 octaves not G2,E6 wich is 3,6 octaves

  • C3-D6

  • /watch?v=XBzwBymV87E Look Madonna high note here, after a vocal run, many people say its a E6

  • But I say this in Beginig of the video Here is C3-D6, I lost the audio with G#2

  • @kouldeliee LOL idiot, Madonna doesn't even have a voice. Sit down.

  • love her b5!

  • She's friggen amazing. Thanks for making this video.

  • No way!

    She can whistle!

I didn't think it was possible, but I now love her more!

  • Range vocal,

we are happy that you have given time for

    working on this video.

But please do include cyndis lower notes.

Because everyone knows that cyndi lauper can belt lower notes than F3,. and I do believe that her range is greater than 3.3 1/2 notes.

I hope that you will give time to make a new one and make it better, thank you.

  • wa i tot cyndi lauper cant belt...and whistle too...

  • it's funny how people's comments (on anything on here) starts off about the video that the comments are intended for...then as the comments progress it moves away from the intended video and into mortal combat.

  • C7 not is voice is intrument backup!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I always knew she was a great singer but damn! I also bought her first album, She's So Unusual, and I was blown away. She can sing!!!!!! DAMN

  • Actually, I didn't know that Cyndi Lauper could whistle!

  • In the 1980's when she was in her 30's she still had a girly tone of a Lyrical Soprano. She might just be a Spinto Soprano now because of age.

  • The best thing of Cyndi not only her vocal range . She had created a new style that until 80 there wasn´t, and the feeling and power and versatility.

All the singers that I know admire Cyndi Lauper and her Art.

  • Comment removed

  • I always thought that she had 4 octaves!!!!, because I've read it in articles and music magazines and also in interviews!, so I don't understand how she's onli 3.3-1/2!, I've heard her sing lower notes than the one on this video!. Pls. explain! : (

  • I am pretty sure she could reach a Eb3 or D3 but i am not sure about the C3

  • because there are other notes she can hit in the lower register range that this person did not pick as audible examples. For example the song "Dear John" is a lower register than " I drove all night." Not sure where her subtle ballads would register on this scale like "Above the Clouds", "Fearless" or "Rain on Me."

  • a million thanks for this effort, I couldn't ask for more

  • 13 Everybody's Got An Angel 14 Lies 15 River Deep Mountain High 16 Boy Blue 17 Code of Silence w/ Billy Joel 18 The World Is Stone 19 Stay 20 Comfort You 21 Say A Prayer 22 When U Were Mine 23 A Part Hate 24 My First Night Without You
  • The songs: 1 I Drove All Night 2 At Last 3 Hey Now Girls Just Want To Have Fun 4 Hard to be Me 5 Sisters of Avalon 6 Unconditional Love 7 Midnight Radio 8 I'm Gonna Be Strong (1995 version) 9 Same Ol Story 10 Boy Blue 11 Midnight Radio 12 Baby Workout
  • her song *Searching* from the album *Sisters of avalon* has long whistle registers it was awesome, too bad you did not include it.

  • what s the song with the G#6?thanx!

  • A Part Hate from the Hat Full of Stars album.

  • I love love love this video, please pose more. thanx, BTW drx, i think she hates you too so stop listenning to her music.

  • One of the greatest singers of this generation! Ms. Lauper is A M A Z I N G!!!

  • There's an Eb3 in ur "lowest note clip".

  • great vid. thanks.

  • I don't like her voice.. but her vocal range is amazing

  • Wow!! B5.. She should try C6

  • OMG YAY!! A different artist's vocal range video, great job

  • The C7 sounds more like an organ.

  • Cyndi's lowest note is D3 in Makin' Whoopi. She started out as a Lyric Coloratura Soprano in her early years into her career. Now, she is just a Dramatic Soprano because of age and the voice got thicker. She is not a Mezzo, though.

  • omg. this made me die of laughter.

  • drxclassic2, what do you think Cyndi is. I would like your opinion.

  • I'm speaking of her vocal range and Type

  • Cyndi is still a Lyric Soprano. Her voice darkened, but didn't become thicker.

  • It's because she's older, that's why. I saw many comments stating that she is a Dramatic Soprano now mainly due to age. She is 55 now. Sweetie, you do know your stuff though... for a teenager. I am actually proud of you.

  • lol. no ad hominems. =) you think nichole is a dramatic. that right there is hilarious. now this? LOL!

  • Are you talking to me or drxclassic2?

  • No, drxclassic2

  • THANK YOU! she's clearly and always has been a lyric!

  • Her voice is so amazing. I always think of Christina and Britney in the same way I did with Cyndi and Madonna. One is a better vocalist and ne is a better entertainer. Another great video. I have to step my game up!

  • but cyndi and christina r also great entertainers...but britney and madonna cant sing if the existence of the entire human race depended on it... :P

  • Yes, they can, that's just a comment of a non believer.

  • oh plz.. if britney or madonna could sing ... i think they would have shown it by now... britney succeeded due to EXTREME work in the studio, great beats, looks n the image of a teen pop princess n madonna on more or less the same.. they cant sing jst admit it ppl

  • Well, they can. Maybe not fantastic or amazing, but they can, even though they don't show high, high notes doesn't mean they can't sing.

  • have you even seen britney's videos when she was 10 in Star Search? Or when she was 12 in MMC? She could belt out notes as high as A5. It's just her style I think that prevents her from hitting those notes and the music she's currently marketing. She just needs formal training again.

As for madonna, she can sing but just ok.

  • that was back then n i think A5 is an exaggeration n even if... ur voice is naturally higher as a kid... n dont act like shes selectively choosing not to sing properly... she chose to act like a bimbo n over process her voice in the studio n rely on dance.. she didnt sing untill at this current time she sings properly or shows that she is a good vocalist im not buying crap

  • well i don't know. i kinda lost hope with britney's vocals now. I think it's permanently damaged already. But she's also stupid for not even hiring a vocal coach! It's just in her upcoming album where she did see a vocal coach but only temporary. still that's useless if she's not gonna take it seriously.

  • What? Christina and Cyndi are great on stage and the gap beetween their singing skills and Madonna's or Britney is like Universe huge. Not a fair comparation at all.

  • What does belted mean?
